Not true. I think we all aspire to greatness. We just have different opinions on how and the timeline to get there.
Negas are very impatient. Everyone else has a different level of patience. Negas thinks the years of decline should have been fixed with 1 hire in 1 year. Everyone else understands that a fix that will last takes time.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
I'm kinda on the fence about Jones, but I have no confidence whatsoever that the next hire would be any different than the last three.
Because we wouldn't fire a coach one year removed from winning the SEC East? Yes we would, uh did.
Spoiled.....

Moron. It is idiots like you who want to keep a revolving door in the coach's office. It's a good way to never hire anyone of worth if you never give them a chance. Who exactly is knocking down our door? Hmmm? Who? Quit ruining everything good you 1980's douche villain.
I don't want a revolving door. However, we will have a revolving door until we hire someone good.
That's not apparent considering the number who continue to excuse Jones for underperforming his talent for 4 years. Not true. I think we all aspire to greatness. We just have different opinions on how and the timeline to get there.
Waiting 4 years for a coach to coach up his roster to potential isn't impatient. It is far more patience than a coach would receive at UF, Bama, tOSU, etc.Negas are very impatient.
Well then I guess pretty much no one here is a "nega". However, reasonable but critical fans recognize that Jones has missed a huge window of opportunity and the blame lays at his feet. They also realize that any "fix" that takes time will require more than one coach due to one prerequisite. A coach MUST be able to attract top talent to compete in the SEC. If a coach fails to win big within the first 3 years and at the most 4... recruits stop listening. We see evidence in the 2016 and 2017 classes of this happening.Everyone else has a different level of patience. Negas thinks the years of decline should have been fixed with 1 hire in 1 year. you're missing the point tho. if we keep firing coaches like this (if we fire butch, 4 coaches in 10 years), "someone good" won't come near tennessee when there is an opening. revolving door of coaches does not help ut's image no attract top coaching talent.

How did Alabama ever get Saban? How did Michigan ever get Harbaugh? How much stability did OU have prior to Stoops?

all 3 of those situations are different with michigan being the closest in terms of similarity. bama was in all sorts of trouble with ncaa and was on probation for many years prior to saban. michigan, like ut, was replacing a long standing coach in carr which always makes for a rough transition (ahem... fulmer!) and don't include ou in that because that admin only cares about winning, even if half the team beats and rapes women.
so no, firing coaches left and right does not guarantee landing a once in a generation coach like saban. saban is in a whole different coaching echelon than stoops and harbaugh.
Answered the post you responded to.
The bold above simply isn't true. You REPEATEDLY see top name coaches take over for coaches who were fired for failing to meet standards... so long as the program and roster are not allowed to fall into bad shape before the previous coach is fired.
Kirby Smart has been a hot HC name for how long? He jumped at the chance to replace a coach who won 9 games in the year he was fired and had won 10 in 3 of his last five years. Malzahn (one of the hottest names in CFB at the time) replaced Chizik... who was fired after only 4 years which included a national championship.
Probably the hottest name in CFB this year was Tom Herman. He replaced someone who was previously one of the hottest names out there in Charlie Strong who replaced Mack Brown who led Texas to a NC AND accumulated a record of 158-48 in his tenure.
The proven formula for finding a championship coach is to hire and fire every 3-4 years until you find a winner.
SOME of the people on this board think that an SEC championship is their birthright as a Vol fan. They cite our big stadium , rich history , committed fanbase ( many of whom should be) and rake Jones over the coals cause we are not there yet. They conveniently overlook that Fla, LSU and Bama have won MULTIPLE ncS SINCE 98 when we did. They have just as much money, fan support , pay their coaches as much if not more than we do. Fla,LSU, and Texas A&M all lost at least 4 games this year and their fans , though unhappy, are not ready to panic. grow up and deal with the fact that Sabans run at Bama is a once every 40-50 year freak occurrence and as long as he remains there, no one can unseat him and the redneck Tide . As Clay Travis has said" the other 13 teams would be better off if they each gave 3 million to a fund used to bribe Saban not to coach" Short of that - we will all be playing for second place . Histrionics and whining are pointless. So- get off Butchs back and remember how the Dooley saga found new and unique ways to make our football lives painful. Oh the humanity.
