Rationalization is accelerating on here, which is part of the process of reducing expectations. UT admin is winning if VN is representative of the overall fan base.

The more I think about the more I actually don't hate the idea of weinke... he has strong recruiting ties in south Florida, has NFL coaching experience, and with it being thought that Scott could get a HC gig sometime in the next few years you could have weinke learn the ins and outs of butch's offense and then when Scott leaves there is your next oc

The problem with scott is he will leave in a couple years for a HC gig.

I wouldn't let that stop me. I don't like borrowing trouble from the future.

I think a Scott Wienke combo is a great upgrade.

You don't have to have a documented solid foundation for every opinion you have. Sometimes you just get a good feeling about a guy. Scott seems super competent and and well liked and I could see him being a good fit. It doesn't blow my mind that Butch might think that. He spends a lot more time around him then I ever have.

I get the opposite feeling about CZA. Clearly nobody knows anything for sure. But I would rather go with the guy who connects and inspires confidence in his guys. I like that Scott is younger but has some unique coaching experiences in the past that he had to figure out as he went along. That will serve him well in the future.

I also don't think play calling is this crazy unique skill that you need years of experience in order to be good at it. I bet any one of our coaches could step in and do it fairly well. You just hope whoever Butch chooses has an elite feel for the flow of the game and gives us an advantage. We won't know until the season starts either way.

Game planning is probably just as important if not more than the actual play calling. If the game plan is solid and well thought out then executing it should be the easier apart. Game planning and making in game adjustments to take advantage of what the D is doing are the mark of a good OC. Play calling is just the execution of a game plan IMO.

What's the move in your opinion? What exactly should we as fans be talking about on the message boards?

Good to go on Scott/Weinke. If Scott gets a HC gig. Weinke could provide continuity of system. The combo wins big on recruiting.

If you were ever to convincingly win a point on here, do you know what that means? You made a point on a message board. :)

Yea, if your coordinators are wanted by other programs, you have probably had success.

Just an observation of the natural progression from wanting the best available by nearly every poster on here in the recent past to the acceptance of far less than that today.

Not trying to discourage the banter at all. UT nearly always goes for the cheap or unproven alternative while the fan base typically gives their best to support UT in all situations. UT wins because they can get away with it.

Expectations are not being reduced by anyone. It's just that some of us understand and live by the following lines and others do not.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

I don't really see it as a problem with Scott. If he gets a HC gig, it likely meant he did well at OC.
