I think the lack of playcalling experience would still be called into question.

In this hypothetical, I actually feel better about his current situation, having been here and had an impact on the current offense.

I understand and agree with this 100% - what we also don't know is how much input he had this year, good or bad. He was sitting right next to DeBord in the box. That could be a good or a bad thing. But on the surface I think we'd take a lot of positives from him knowing what we know.

Given how much has been continually learned through research in the S&C field over the last 10-20 years, do you have concerns about Rock being behind the times?

No not at all. The base of all good programs is an old school approach with modern technology. He's been in the NFL so I expect for him to have kept up with the times. Not a concern of mine at all.

Tony B. is making me feel a little more encouraged this morning:

"Tennessee is hiring Parker Search Firm. Right now, I believe this is window dressing. David Blackburn is highly thought of within the Parker Search Firm Infrastructure. There is a school of thought that David Blackburn is currently assisting Butch Jones in assembling his coaching staff. Is this possible? Sure it is... I'm going to lay one on you here. Parker Search Firm is going to come back and recommend that UT hire David Blackburn barring the unforeseen. Then again, this is Tennessee, so expect the unforeseen to rule the day."

SIAP

I would have taken 10% of what Parker charged UT to tell them the exact same thing. Just hire Blackburn...it's not that hard.

I'd rather him be defending that threat :)

It would be fun to see him on defense. Honestly he might be good enough to go both ways in certain spots. In that situation I would rather see him full time on defense and sprinkled in some on O.

Kid can make plays all over. Coaches should have fed him more.

He's had the biggest impact so far of the 16 class and it's not that close. Balled out as true freshman. Hard to say he's not a great fit at WR when we saw what he could do. He's just gonna get better and better. I get the arguments for him on defense though.

The future of UT football definitely isn't looking too bright right now....with the pieces that seem to be falling in place under Butch and recruiting, we are about to free-fall into being just an average program at best that is going to be lucky to win 6-8 games a year.... SMH

Before I had kids and became captain DadBod, I was more into old school free weights. Not a fan of the machines except for certain ones that provided more movement or if I hadn't worked out in forever to get me back in flow. I always felt free weights provided more strength and free motion. It prob could have been a mental thing as i never studied it. I just went based on how I felt after. Machines felt like cheating at times

If we successfully recruit the state next year, we'll be set up just fine.

Machines don't strengthen your stabilizer muscles. They don't build the same functional strength that free weights do.

Glad you are. This "we're doomed and will never win more than 6-8" seems pretty depressing. Guess we'll just show up...even forewarned.

UT has had a relationship with Parker for a long time now. Not sure why it is a big deal all of a sudden. If UT uses a search firm for an athletics position, it's going to go through Parker.

I don't think this program is as low and dark as a lot of people are saying. We're a lot closer than we were a few years ago. I think the mountain was bigger than we all thought. I don't know if Butch will get us to a national championship but he's definitely gotten us climbing again.

We're an elite QB and a positive turnaround on defense from probably winning 10 games next year. I don't see a scenario where we're much worse.

We're gonna be in a ton of close games again next year. Just a matter of whether or not we can pull them out. Which will likely depend on QB play.

But I think Butch has gotten us back to competing every year for the East, which we were not close to when he arrived. Above that? I don't know. I guess we'll see. Either we will get it done or move on to the next coach and see if he can.

It's not the machines it's the different splits and auxiliary exercises that have changed. Him coming from the NFL he's been made to go to countless seminars and clinics. I highly doubt he's anywhere near behind the curve.

Not a big deal. Search firms just do a lot of vetting and have contacts. But I was curious, and I don't believe the results with Parker have been stellar. At some point, you might try something new. Bring in new blood.

Memphis used the search firm Eastman and Beaudine in Plano, Texas, and that netted them Justin Fuente and Mike Norvell.

Won't comment on his hate of Butch, but UT is definitely a job you take.

Great facilities, great stadium, loyal fanbase, the state continues to get more talent.
