Not jazzed if it ends up being Scott, but there's no absolutes on OC's. They all have to start somewhere and we just saw what a newbie could do when given their first chance in Tee Martin.

I'm in the same boat. Not overly excited if it were to be Scott but I really like him as a coach and could see him being successful. This is probably his next step in moving up the coaching ranks.

Tony B. is making me feel a little more encouraged this morning:

"Tennessee is hiring Parker Search Firm. Right now, I believe this is window dressing. David Blackburn is highly thought of within the Parker Search Firm Infrastructure. There is a school of thought that David Blackburn is currently assisting Butch Jones in assembling his coaching staff. Is this possible? Sure it is... I'm going to lay one on you here. Parker Search Firm is going to come back and recommend that UT hire David Blackburn barring the unforeseen. Then again, this is Tennessee, so expect the unforeseen to rule the day."

Unless I'm mistaken, UT has a contract with Parker, so the "search firm" was a given all along.

It might have been why he got passed on for HC jobs. If you don't have any coordinator experience teams might have reservations. The thing about Scott is that he has no record for anyone to go on. He has never called plays so we don't know how he would call them. It is going to come down to the interview and if Butch likes what he hears and has been impressed with his work as a position coach.

I thought he would eventually transition to OL coach and move up from there. This would be a big skipped step. Agree he was moving up SOMEWHERE if not here.

Just to clarify, this is from Tony Basilio and not from Tony Bologna right? Cause we might not be able to be friends anymore if it is the latter.

annnnd....balloon once again deflated. Thanks Dust10.

Why is that deflating? They have a firm on retainer, said firm likes Blackburn, and Blackburn is the likely recommendation. Sounds good to me. Also gives Bev some cover if she decides to do the right thing.

Speaking of which. I've actually come to the conclusion that TonyB is actually two people posting on here. The question is...is it actually two separate people, or is it one person with two separate personalities?

Lol, that would be Basilio

Him and the poster that tells every one that disagrees with Tony to "grow up". :)

Could they be one in the same? Probably not. Basilio has a little more finesse and doesn't call everyone "buddy".

You mean he doesn't have multiple personalities?

Was just messing with him. I actually had a thought on the whole Bev thing earlier. Nothing more than me speculating, but it did give me a moment to pause in the way I've been thinking about this whole AD search thing. Could it be possible that this is being done to give Butch a chance to do all the leg work on his own in his coaching search? I mean it seems pretty apparent that Butch has been given the green light to go ahead and find coaches...without an AD in place. Buys Bev more time to do her due diligence and be "the one" in charge, without the worry of leaving athletics out to dry.

Just a passing thought I had...nothing more.

Two headed monster from Sesame Street IMO.

If Butch tries to promote within at OC so he can still have his hand in the offense, he clearly hasn't learned his lesson and will be gone after next season--- and it will be completely on him... His ego is out of hand and cannot let go of control and it will be his downfall. Even if it is for pure perception, he needs someone from the outside coming in to get the energy back in recruiting- this class has stalled and will be worse next year if changes are not implemented showing he is able to change and let his staff coach...
If he promotes within, the offense better light it up every Saturday showing legitimate improvement from last year or he's essentially cooked his own goose...

So UT is hiring and paying for a search firm to recommend the person we all could have recommended with our eyes closed, and he could already be working and guiding Butch. That's how Tennessee does things. But after yesterday I am shocked Basillio is sounding so positive. I don't care how it is done as long as Blackburn is hired.

I read a couple of posts the other day from Tony and immediately thought to myself that it was someone else typing under Tony's account. It was all typed in standard size black font and made sense. In no way sounded like a 12 year old was trying to sound grown up.

The main reason the offense was record breaking is because Dobbs making something after nothing constantly. DeBord wasn't great or terrible imo. The lack of deep balls to Jennings and Malone are mind boggling

This is where I'm at. Dobbs, AK and Malone were a huge reason the offense was so successful. They are all gone now.
