You fans better HOPE...

So you think all the negativity started after those 2 losses? Cool.

Well when you lose to Vandy and South Carolina and squander a division title and Sugar Bowl bid, it is a tad frustrating. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable/clueless observation to me.

I didn't say that, but since you decided to take a snarky approach to it, I'll continue. Any reasonable fan knows there was some disappointment after the A&M loss due to so many turnovers. Alabama was a nightmare, but I expected a loss going in. After those two losses, we were still in fantastic position to win the division for the first time in 10 years and likely advance to a NY6 bowl(OPTIMISM).
South Carolina loss = no longer winning division
Vanderbilt loss = no longer a NY6 bowl contender
So yeah, sure, there was some negativity after the first 2 losses. However, there was still heavy optimism in the program that we could go far after those two losses.

that Butch is content to stay here for a long time! Yes I said it! So many of you want/expect him to fall on his face! The fact is this University is an absolute mess from an administrative standpoint...and guess what...it ALL STARTS THERE! So if/when Butch is shown the door don't expect for there to be an endless line of high profile coaches to come knocking! We should know this by now! So for those of who want nothing more than for Butch and Co. to get shown the door...you better be careful what you wish for! Volnation for the most part has developed into one massive NEGAFAN hotbed...and that's unfortunate. Fans see it, players see it, and recruits see it. If you don't think that it matters...you're delusional! Volnation has become poisonous cancer to this program! For those of you who want to defend this notion..really?? 80% of the threads on here are negative condescending threads and posts about Butch and Co....don't pretend otherwise! Many of you need to grow up..develop a reasonable football IQ...or GET THE HE.. OUT! So many of you (not all of course) are clueless as to the nuts and bolts that make up a quality football program..and you take for granted what we're finally building again.

What he said

Yeah... those with "football IQ" are folks like you... willing to watch an underperforming coach continue underperforming because you're afraid of making changes.... like every other top tier football program has done en route to becoming successful.

Here's some "football IQ" for you. UT stank it up early in the season even before the injuries. If Dobbs had not bailed the Vols out with individual effort on broken plays... It is likely UT would have dropped a couple more games including ASU. The OL in year 4 of Jones' tenure still does not consistently perform at an SEC level. Injuries have been a 3 year problem and Jones has until now pretended it was nothing more than "bad luck".

Recruiting has been a struggle in '17 and NOT because of negative fans. Jones came in making implicit and explicit promises.... that didn't come true. Recruits have taken notice. Now UT is competing with WKU for 2* players rather than Bama for 5* players.

The "poison" to the program is LOSING... and especially games like Vandy and USCe that SHOULD HAVE BEEN BLOWOUT WINS. the "poison" is Jones failed promises and underperformance over the past 4 years. Negativity amongst fans is a result... not a cause.

Every one of your points are absolutely on the minority side......most fans like and love what CBJ and company are doing.......consider yourself on the <1%, he has delivered a better program and better teams, the Championships will come about as fast as they came for Fulmer.......who by the way, had the best talent in the SEC + a Hall of Fame QB and choked....it took a team that was not predicted to be in the NC to win it for him and he gave up being a coach, to being a celebrity......so your comments lack any supportive evidence.

Amen....

Football is not what it used to be. Better players leave earlier, you can't build a program (I know Bama gets all 5* recruits going to the NFL). The number of quality players nationwide has increased dramatically. If you play in the SEC you WILL have losses and injuries (do you want to be Western Michigan?). Coaches change every two years. The same idiots wanted Fulmer gone (ten years of misery). Once great teams flounder, ND, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Auburn, USC, OK, Michigan, Texas, on and on.

The problem wasn't letting Fulmer go after he started to lose more and more......but making the right hire. That's the important thing

I took a quick poll.....

73.75% of the number polled (+/- 5 Vol Fans) believe that roughly 98.7% of your polling data is inaccurate, and quite possibly made up out of thin air.

My polling data is correct 60% of the time, every time.

Complete BS.

How did it take Dabo 15 years to build up Clemson? He's been there 9 years. He also won 10 regular season games in year 4.

He converted to some kind of modified dog years..

Truth has never been a product of consensus. Many times... those willing to take their blinders off are in the minority.

Do you have a survey demonstrating that?

LOL... my post was FULL of supportive evidence and much more has been posted elsewhere.

Fulmer came up in a different era of the SEC. But more directly to that comparison, Fulmer won 10+ games in 3 of his first 4 seasons. He won a championship in his 5th year. He finished no worse than 2nd in the East in his first 10 seasons.... while competing with one of the greatest coaches in CFB history.

I never liked that Fulmer seldom "outcoached" anyone... but he also didn't lose to inferior teams very often the way Jones has.

Your comparison is just ridiculous.

Those early 10 win seasons came prior to the 12 game schedule too....making them that much more impressive.

Easy on the factual information there sjt. You're bordering on abusive.

Some are conditioned to accept mediocrity. Participation trophies for 8th place in little league or a ribbon for finishing the 10 yard dog paddle make it easier to accept. Some are more demanding.

GO BIG ORANGE!

I don't believe anyone wants to accept mediocrity but how far will the common fan go to show their disapproval??? Will you stop going to games, buying merchandise, donating money, buying season tickets??? That's where the University takes the biggest hit, when it shows in the wallet.

Unfortunately for us as fans, our University won't go the extra mile for UT football to be acceptable like Bama does. Alabama will do anything to be the most successful program in the country. The have former head coaches as consultants, basically guys in waiting for a job. I would bet that those people are getting outside money from boosters and Saban has that all set up. If Butch won a NC would boosters pay off his house?? They did at Bama for Saban. Right now they're just on a different playing field in all aspects of that program than everyone else in the country.

If Tennessee had really wanted Gruden or any other BIG time coach they would have offered about $7-8 Million a year and unlimited money for a staff, instead we got an up and comer with a lot of cheesy tag lines.

So you got Jones winning the SEC next year and the SEC and NC the next year.

I'll tell you how far I'm willing to go. All the crap about waiting until April for an AD and neglect of athletics in general, when it comes to success, has left me not getting season tickets for the first time in 10 years.

If I'm paying hard earned money and time to go to an event, I want at least a showing they give two flips. I'll watch, but they are losing my cash until I see more effort from the administration

There are many more of us following suit. Of course, to many people, that negates your status as a fan....which is ridiculous.

I know of at least 5 families that have made the same decision.

Man I applaud you for this but we both know you're in the minority on this. The majority of fans will complain and p*ss and moan about coaching, administration etc but will never make a true stand. Let Butch show up to a stadium with 80k people in it and the administration will take notice real quick. Let merchandise revenue drop, concessions, season ticket sales drop by an enormous amount and the higher ups will take notice. Hell America did it with Trump, let Vol fans do it with the University

9-4 = 70%.
In 1249 all-time games, UT's has a 68.2 winning percentage.
If Butch goes 9-4 every year for 20 years, he'll have improved our all-time number.

I think people expect to get back to the run we had in the 90's. With a 13 game schedule, I don't believe 10 wins a year is unrealistic. We should always beat Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina..this year we went 1-2.

I think if we can split with Georgia and Florida, most fans would be ok. Now Bama....at this point I'd take a win once every 7-8 years

LOL. Just admit you broke. If I'm going to spend my hard earned free time reading a message board I sure don't care to waste it reading about your finances or personal choices.

Every winter people post this then in the fall the same people are trying to sell ticketsome on here. It amuses me.
