At OC of course I want a Cumbie, OK ST guy, or Helfrich, but I would be accepting of Scott as with how our offense has been recently it doesn't need to be overhauled. The important hire on O is the QB coach.

On D, I think the reason Martinez and Thig's recruiting has dropped off as opposed to when they first got here is because recruits have witnessed how ineffectual they are at developing players. I really want us to grab someone at both of those positions that are able to develop and recruit.

Then of course there is our AD hire. I want someone in position sooner than later-- namely Blackburn-- so that Butch gets better direction. With that said though I am not opposed to Davenport vetting people and hiring a different, equally-- or even more so-- qualified person. The only thing that would be completely unforgivable is the hiring of Gilbert. Hell, he might be good, but you DO NOT fire a person just to install their right hand man. That would be a level of stupid so earth shattering that even Hamilton would laugh.

I think that can be a very good combo.

The offense isn't broken. We see it can work.

We just need to be a little more creative and consistently better at getting our play makers the ball.

Agreed, Butch's offense has scored a lot of points, even with questionable play calling and personnel misuse, which is why I'm content to give it a go

It's not like a Cam Cameron offense, averaging 16 ppg

This sounds all too familiar- boosters get their guy, it's all but a done deal and then someone from UT says not so fast! I'm doing my own search and hire.... and Davenport is obviously getting her way and delaying this process even more. I understand allowing her to be part of the process, she would be his boss after all, but did she act like she was okay with rubber stamping Blackburn and then have an about face? Because UT appears like they are a deer in headlights once again. The thing that irks me the most about this isn't that she wants to heavily vet candidates- it's the rumor that she doesn't like that Blackburn is a Tennessee guy. That somehow a guy from East Tennessee that loves this university isn't smart enough to run the AD. He's done a hell of a job at the sister university down the road! Look at that compared to Gilbert who has never been an AD and botched what hires he was in charge of. The fact that some people think he is even qualified for this job tells me they don't know what they are doing. DiPetrio must enjoy presiding over the most inept university of our times. Take charge for once! Not giving another dime due to this and others should do the same.

I think that I would grudgingly accept Larry Scott, as he does seem to have a keen offensive mind. We would lose some of his impact with recruiting, though, would we not? Does the OC typically recruit positions other than QB? I agree that my lid would flip if we promote ZA.

I think we can all agree we want our football team to be as successful as possible, how to get there is where the conversation gets sideways. Larry Scott may well be a fine coordinator, but the fact that Butch will not hire a proven OC means nothing will change in the fourth quarter of the Vanderbilt game, outscored 21-3 because Butch doesn't trust someone to just go win the game instead of let's try to hang on. Last years Fla and OK we're examples of the same problem. When looking at problems with the offense, look no further than Mahoney. Closing out tight games means winning up front being able to run the ball for first downs. This problem has been discussed at great length and rightly so. How many times on 3rd and one or two have we run a lateral zone play for no gain, this is part of Butchs offensive scheme or how many times does the offense go into a shell with a 4th quarter lead only to have to try and flip the switch back on after we fall behind. Hiring in house suggests he is unwilling to change.

I agree with this. You can't always trick a team with formations to be successful with the run. You have to be able to line up and smash during a game to get the yards you need. Our offensive line over the past three years has not been able to do that.

Given how much has been continually learned through research in the S&C field over the last 10-20 years, do you have concerns about Rock being behind the times?

The only way a legit s&c coach is behind the times is if he's a bltihering idiot.
There is far too much info out, especially for certified professionals.

Why do you guys like Weinke for QB coach? I'll hang up and listen

NFL QB coach
Former NFL QB
Former Heisman Trophy winner
Former All-American QB
Produced at a very high level in College
IMG - 5 years
Pretty good resume that's going to attract recruits.

Sounds good to me.

Why don't you if you Morans start a petition to hire Blackburn? I would do it myself but I'm to much of a moron to figure it out.

Around 50k signatures on there and the new lady will realize VolNation runs the university not her.
