Didn't say anything about athletics. I definitely agree that a school can be great both academically and athletically. I have no problem using ORNL, and I understand that research is a part of learning. IMO, however, some schools have turned their focus to research, research, research and making money and gone away from its true focus, which should be educating its students. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like academia is turning away from the real world, and young people are getting degrees and have no idea how to make it. It shouldn't be political either, but it always seems the "research" institutions are more on the liberal side.

You are correct IMO. Good post.

Providing high value education as well as athletics programs are not mutually exclusive unless the non-braintrust governing the school determine them to be. Which would be the case with UT.

Tried to bring some solid info-- not pushing a narrative at all. Why all the animus? Do you guys really enjoy the constant sniping and mean-spirited posts? Life's too short for that, but I'll leave you to it.

I'm hearing similar stuff. I don't often share it for the reasons you've experienced.

Same here. The VFL talk is not reassuring. But we would miss the happy dance on here if we didn't participate.

How much of a slap to the face to FSU would it be if Weinke did come here to coach QBs

Larry Scott is a respected coach. It's not what I want, but if that is how it's going to be, let's ride.

The fact that we're going to take almost a full year to hire a new AD after he announced retirement tells me UT athletics won't be back any time soon. I doubt any P5 school would be that inept. I lost a lot of hope for our program when I heard that.

We just had a pool guy call one of the most prolific offenses UT has ever had.

We just had a grand slam DC hire **** the bed.

IMO getting angry at things that haven't even happened yet is silly. We as fans know little and influence less. Events take shape in ways we don't expect. So I'd suggest letting things play out and then forming conclusions; some of the angst here is premature.

No sense in borrowing trouble.

Yeah, my mistake. I don't bring much, either, and I won't bring anything more at all. I've enjoyed your posts-- they're solid.

I guess I missed the specific intel that we should all be torn up over. I heard lots of frustration that the new chancellor wanted input into hiring the person that she is ultimately responsible for, but that doesn't really sound unreasonable to me. I hear that she wants to change the academic climate of the school, but I don't know why that is mutually exclusive to athletic excellence.

Please restate what you've heard that we should be upset about. I'm asking seriously.

So how long has the position been vacant?

SECN just flashed a stat that Jalen Hurts completes 26% of his passes when he is pressured and his QB rating is 2.0. Hmmm.... Clemson could bring some pressure and Sark is not Kiffin and we have no idea what kind of rapport they have. I am beginning to believe that Clemson has a legitimate shot to win.

While I liked DeBo okay, don't settle for good when you have all the talent in the world to be great. Our offense was good, but we had talent to be great. A solid OL, two very good RBs, playmakers at WR, a solid group of TEs, and a playmaking QB. Inconsistency hurt us, and I feel like with all we had we could've been more consistent.

Agree on Shoop though. He crapped the bed and peed all over himself. Our best group was our DL riddled with injuries. Shoop is actually a DB guy and our DBs were awful

Facts are these:

Butch brought in staff he was comfortable with from Cincinatti. He also brought in excellent recruiters from an Auburn program that had a recent national championship. This was needed to establish the culture he desired and to bring in an immediate influx of talent to the program. Mission accomplished. Now, with these things established, and player development being a weak point, he can look to improve on that end.

1. Bajakian: Had his ups and downs, but not terrible.
1b. Debord: Had his ups and downs, but maybe a bit better than Bajakian.
2. Mahoney: Probably underperformed, and will be replaced.
3. Jancek: Solid defense, multiple collapses.
3b. Shoop: Bruin disagrees, but most likely an upgrade, given time, his own staff hires, and D1 players. Possible Home run
4. Elder: Rising star. Rose on...
4b. Scott: Well respected. Recruiting boss. Upgrade.
5. Azzanni: Important recruiter. Has improved his coaching.
6. Strip: Good hire
7. Martinez: Great recruiter, players lacked fundamentals.
8. Thigpen: Great recruiters, players lacked fundamentals.
9. Gillespie: Homerun.

So what I am saying is this. Butch isn't as bad at staff hires as people are fretting over. The facts are, Debord put up points, and everyone has moments during a season that they are stuck. OSU vs Clemson, for example.

Mahoney, Thigpen, and Martinez, obviously the weak links are going to be replaced (most likely). Let the man do work.
