Hubbs this Morning

I don't think butch would have let Debord retire/leave if he knew his only options were Scott/Azzani. But then again Butch has made me bang my head into a concrete wall before.

He/she brings absolutely to this site other than arrogance and condescension. No debate, no nothing.....just stalking and sniping, b****ing and moaning about other legit Vol fans who have a different opinion. The absolute worst poster on here, bar none imo.

I bet we win 8 or more games next season. You name the $$ amount.

I don't gamble... but you've made me wish that I did.

This team doesn't have the talent/experience in 2017 to win 8 games considering:

- Jones has a pattern of higher than average injuries each year. UT would need a year where no critical player gets hurt. This requires something to change (possibly the S&C) that has an immediate and extraordinary impact.

- Jones has left an average of 2 wins on the field over his 4 years. The only way you get to 8 is if you think the Vols return a 10 win roster... which they don't. The other way you get there is if UT's staff suddenly starts overachieving the talent they have... but that would break a 4 year pattern under Jones.

"Not a realistic option at this point" is certainly different than what has been discussed on this board up until now. Seems like the discussion has gone from "he's definitely coming" to it's highly unlikely to "never was coming". That statement if quoted from Brent Hubbs sounds like Helfrich may still be under consideration. Agree that Scott has not been a QB coach in the past although he's done about everything else on the offense. I think the three QB's in contention for 2017 need a QB coach. Would be nice to get the package rather than two separate coaches.

There was interest on both sides, but it cooled on both sides last week. The general thought now is that he'll sit out this year.

Where is the data showing he has higher injuries than normal each year as you claim? And obviously I believe your second point is incorrect or I wouldn't be betting.

I have known Brent, his brother lance, his father Fred and the rest of his family since the early '80's when they were living in Chattanooga at the Baylor school in trustee hall.
I absolutely agree there is no more upstanding family I know.
I also know his hard work and dedication to VQ and evermore to his affiliation with the rivals network have afforded him proximity to the program. This gives him"insider" status that the most on here could only dream of.
However this proximity is a symbiotic relationship in that he gets info early and the university does benefit from having a way to disseminate information. In that regard yes he can at times be used as amouthpiece for the university to break whatever news they wish to break. To think they don't use propaganda in that fashion is naive at best. I am not saying Brent is misleading people at all. To the contrary, he has earned the opportunity to get the inside scoop earlier and report it. He gets the news, he may not always know how and why the story is being released.

Back to the more important issue- recruiting will tank if we go In house with this hire. Negative recruiting will increase our already waning recruiting. Add a 6-6 season or worse and he will have hired his own henchman.

Hands down, no one can touch Hubbs on covering the Vols. Been that way as long as I can recall.

You are grabbing for air. Watch the 2014 and 2015 games. Then come back and tell me I'm ridiculous. You have to be dishonest to say that. Did you not see us leading them in the 4th quarter last year? But I'm ridiculous? Lol ok you seem to have in your own mind a different reality from historical facts. Every single offense bogs down from time to time just like every defense allows an offense to score from time to time. Our offense isn't perfect but it's far from the way you and others are trying to frame it.

I'm dishonest because I DISAGREE with you? Good God, man...talk about narcissistic!!! Uh--that means in love with your own self....

We weren't even close to beating Bama in 2014....and led them for all of 2 minutes in 2015...which was great progress....but 49-10 this year....

HISTORICAL FACTS?

We've lost to VANDY twice in the last 3 years...
We lost to SCe this year....after an off week to prepare for them...

2015--this offense FAILED to hold 2 TD leads in the 4th QTR.......partly because of poor play-calling on both sides of the ball....

But I will stand on facts....--the HUNH style of play (UP-TEMPO)...has NOT won a NC......and it never will...

As usual--guys like you can't see the truth because you spend too much time looking at stats on paper.....

Please go back and watch the Bama games in 2013 ("red team game"...Bama scored 35 before we scored any) and 2014 (it was 27-0 before we scored...Dobbs came in in relief) and then try again to tell me we could've won either game....

This offensive system SUCKED all year in 2016....except for 2 QTRS against Fla--and one of the worst defenses in all of college FB in aTm.....and it couldn't even beat a pathetic SCe team....

This year's offensive stats were largely made in 3 games....aTm, Mizzou, and Kentucky....

But that's okay.....keep reading your stat sheets and failing to understand anything about what's actually happening on the field.....ignorance is bliss....but stupidity is intentional....

I will wager you any amount up to 100k that we win 8 or more games next season. We can set up with an indepedent 3rd party escrow account to make sure no one gets screwed. Let me know.

ill take that! tell me how to set it up

I see your point just look at App for starters.

Shoop: "we won't underestimate App State"

Then the game happened

In what way did Shoop underestimate ASU? He held a good offense to under 300 yds total O and 13 points with one of the scores being set up by a Cam Sutton fumble and the other coming on a fluke play where their QB blindly lofted the ball to a player being reasonably well defended by a DE.

Shoop didn't make UT's offense terrible in that game.

You really believe Jones has the pieces to replace Dobbs, Barnett, JRM, and Sutton etc?

talent is there I don't think it translates to 8+ wins it's probably closer to 6 given the high probability of an in house OC.

How much $$ you want? Looks like I'll have to make an off shoot thread. I'll see if Freak would be interested in hosting the escrow account.

lets see if Freak will set up the PM so we can make this happen

He didn't live up to his billing either of constant pressure turnovers etc.

300 yds to App is unacceptable with the talent he had to open the season.

You simply don't replace guys like Dobbs, Barnett, and Malone. That's a fact. You can only increase the overall talent of the team to cover up those losses. I think Butch is a good enough coach to do that. JRM was a non-factor this season and Sutton missed most of the meaningful games.

All of this discussion sounds like Butch has no interest in going outside the box and hiring a more dynamic guy to run the offense.

He'll do that on defense, since that isn't his domain, but since he considers the offense to be his baby he only wants people he can fully control there.

This is also why he moved Byrd and Jennings to Offense. As an offense guy, he wants the best talent on the O.

recruiting is sliding talent is too.

Dobbs made good out of bad a lot of times
Where does the pass rush come from?
Jennings is still around but Byrd may move to D leaving a lot of unknowns.

If he finds a way to win 8+ he's the coach of the year easily
