Hubbs this Morning

Yeah, when he was hired, but not anymore. The University isn't rolling in dough but they aren't broke.

The funds aren't there for some type of break-the-bank hire but they could buy him out and pay another guy a similar type of salary. Of course, once that happened, the same people calling for Butch's head would be raising hell that we didn't hire a "big time coach."

If he wins 6 or 7 games next year but isn't fired, that would absolutely kill recruiting for a couple of years. Everybody would know he was a lame duck coach.

Recruiting has already taken a hit. The only reason we are at 9/10 in the ranking is because the sheer number of 3 * recruits that we have coming. It's Butch's MO to load up on 3 *'s in the hopes that he has a few overlooked diamonds, but can't build a solid 2-deep on 3 * dice rolls every year.

Ok, well just imagine how bad it would be once he is perceived to be a lame duck by recruits then.

After our recent history there is NO WAY IN HELL the admin will make a change next year barring scandal. They will even give him 1 losing season. People don't have to like it but that is the reality.
Do any of you not remember the fact that we were in major debt when Jones was hired? Folks get used to it. He's here for a minimum of 18 barring scandal.

And before people start the "he had a losing season in his first year". The admit won't consider that because they saw very big improvement.

At which point there'll be 20K+ fewer fans at Neyland come game day. Some of the "faithful" are becoming restless and this hire will either encourage them / offer hope or seal their negative opinion of CBJ permanently at which time they'll consider CBJ "dead-man-walking".

I think he miscalculated that Tennessee was closer to elite status than Penn State was. It certainly wasn't about money - he's making basically the same money he was at Penn State.

Shoop saw the roster when he accepted the job. Neither him or anyone else would know the fate of losing so many key players to injuries.

If he had known that, I'm sure he would have stayed at PSU. Shoop needs a healthy roster and more than just one true DT.

You guys keep bringing up Shoop and him not allowed to bring his assistants, or being forced to work with the ones on staff already.

Then tell me, why the hell would he have accepted the job if that were the case? Did he really want out of PSU that much?! I don't believe that nonsense for one second.

He had 1.15 million reasons to come to TN.

Why not let the man do his evaluation and interviews and make a hire before we have him fired? Never know who he will hire and how they will perform. Benefit of the doubt?

Reader I would really like to meet you.
I would love to see how closely my mental picture is to reality.

Can you ever debate without being condescending and nasty?

He/she brings absolutely to this site other than arrogance and condescension. No debate, no nothing.....just stalking and sniping, b****ing and moaning about other legit Vol fans who have a different opinion. The absolute worst poster on here, bar none imo.

He got hit hard with injuries that's true but after the fact the D only got worse never got better.

That's the only problem I have with Shoop. At some point it should have starter to get better and it didn't

Even if all our guys were healthy, I still think it was a miscalculation on Shoop's part.

Some will take exception this this, but we wouldn't have been a conference champ/playoff contender this year like Penn State was even with a healthy roster.

Yes. And later in the year, we even got some guys back (Kirkland, Sutton) and it was worse.

it wouldn't surprise me if larry scott is the oc...don't sleep on him he is a great coach and If I had a choice I think scott would be a great head coach for this program..had a chance to see him coach at the U...He is a players coach something like Charlie Strong..

I see your point just look at App for starters.

Shoop: "we won't underestimate App State"

Then the game happened

Agreed. The other issue I have with the job he did was is we got worse all over the field, at virtually every position in terms of fundamentals and sound scheme. We tackled poorly, we communicated poorly, were constantly out of position, and he continued to force our corners into playing man coverage all year long when they showed very early they simply couldn't do it.

If you could narrow down our defensive woes to just the injuries, I wouldn't be so pessimistic about Shoop, but you just can't honestly do that. The injuries were a factor, a hindrance, but they were far from the primary reason why he oversaw an historically bad defense this year imo, and they surely weren't the reason for losses to both SCar and Vandy.

no, the negative have always been negative. Even when we were undefeated they were negative, and waiting on an opportunity to unleash all of their negativity. People are who they are....people are angry and negative about EVERYTHING.....EVERYTHING.

he was not up to speed thats for sure....

I think you're probably right. He looked out of sorts in the Vandy game

Injuries hurt in more than one way.

He blew out his Tindon if i remember correctly.

He may have been healthy from it but comditioning took a huge hit. He should have followed JRM and hung it up but I don't hate the man for wanting to rep the T one more time

I hope that this is fixed during the off season otherwise Tech will run all over us
