I think it will be Scott and they'll add a QB coach. It was said Scott had a big influence on the offence scheme wise this year. Some of the wrinkles were Scott's. I think we get a new OL coach and DB coach and that's it.

I'm coming around to this idea also - and Scott isn't really from "inside". He's only been with CBJ for a year - enough time to understand and influence the O but not so long that he's stale. He's able to bring a fresh approach and tweeks I think.

Had Fulmer not tried to revamp the entire offense in 2008 and Dooley hadn't tried to change scheme of defense in 2012, we'd have won the east both years.
Yeah. Fulmer's 2008 squad would've beat the Gators who took out 4 top 10 teams in route to a national championship. You really are out of your mind.

I thought McSorely was a joke coming into this season and even halfway through it but the dude makes plays. Some of those throws he makes are ridiculous and on target. He isn't a joke. He is a very good college QB. NFL potential not so much but one of those fun guys to watch play college

But he does have a noodle for an arm. Didn't hurt Ken Dorsey or Danny W though.

Is it Molly Mcgrath?

I don't necessarily disagree with lack of leadership and conditioning being a problem, but I do think we were out-schemed in both games. South Carolina's defense was very well prepared for our offense and Dobbs having an off-game was directly correlated with that. Muschamp has always been able to take away what we do best and make Dobbs beat them with his arm.

Interesting point on Muschamp-- in retrospect, do you think Butch's losses to Florida were unlucky or poorly gameplanned? I don't know the answer, but I'd like to think that properly conditioned Tennessee team could grind out wins against less talented teams like SC and Vandy-- like the Mizzou game in 2015.

Yeah, my bad. Second in east but not a 5-7 season.
Went back and looked and Dooley's 2012 offense did put up a lot of points. That may have been a good change that just couldn't be overcome by wretched defense. We scored 35 or more in 8 games that season. Amazing to lose 7 in the SEC with that kind of scoring output. May be a record.

He went 4-2 as the interim coach at Miami. Offense is his side.

Whether he gets it and works out or not, everyone gets a job where they have specific duties that they haven't performed previously. It's called promotion.

He didn't call plays at Miami, his head coaching record is irrelevant.

This is a big hire as Ziti says.

But - Butch will do what Butch always does. He rules. He has no real boss. Most of the fan base just laps it up. So whoever he hires, he hires.

CBJ wants to keep both Z and Scott and both coaches want and expect a promotion. There are contractual concerns with Helfrich. He doesn't want to be locked up, and UT wants a high buyout to keep him from Kiffining. Not a lot of motivation to work this out. And even less motivation to get a new AD onboard any time soon.

Thanks LA Vol - this clarifies things for me.

I'm not convinced that Butch has plateaued. Whether we won't to admit it or not, there was a TON of adversity this year and anyone who thinks the injuries didn't play a factor in our losses is just fooling themselves. Yes, we should have beaten Vandy and SC anyway, and he isn't perfect. But he is also making good changes. Hiring Rock is huge, making a change at DB coach is huge, I think he has a chance to breakout. Next year there will be no expectations and WHEN Shoop improves the defense, as I believe he will, we could surprise some folks. Win and recruiting picks back up and everything moves forward.

So much negativity in here. Message board weltanschauung going to usher in great failure. It's the CNN model, so it's understandable that volition suffers.

Did he call plays when he was the interim coach at Miami? Honest question.

I don't know, but you have to have some serious input and lead the discussions. He was the run game coordinator before becoming interim coach. He beat Duke, UVA, GTech, and Pitt as interim.

Whether or not it means he will be a good OC, I don't know. However, I don't believe his head coaching stint is irrelevant. It means he had to game plan and lead his team to victories. When the buck stops at you in 6 games, that's not irrelevant.

It looks like 4 losses, 3 wins, and 5 who the hell knows. It's going to be hard to get consensus on what defines success next season. Maybe 6 wins is a good season with new starters at key positions and a tough schedule? But I don't see him being here in 2018 if he goes 6-6 regular season unless the new AD is prepared to stick his own neck out there as well. I've made up my mind on Butch but I could be wrong, just like folks with a differing opinion could be wrong. I'm definitely not one of the people whose going to root for Butch to lose big to hasten a coaching change so I hope your scenario plays out.
