The stats where the Vols were 46th in defensive efficiency (FEI)? Or the stats where the defense gave up more than 5 yards per play and were almost the worst in the entire country on fourth down (CFB stats)? Or the part where Jancek's incredible defensive playcalling allowed the Vols to cough up not one, not two, but three late game leads against quality opponents?

Now compare those stats to the 2016 stats and get back to me....

Welcome

Well I should have known not to get hopes up- deer park doesn't sound positive and LWS really didn't either on Helfrich. No way Kelly would let Butch be his boss, it will probably be Scott or Azzani. I would rather just keep Debord than those options.

CBJ isn't going to go out on a limb with the OC hire. He wants someone to run his offense, not make sweeping changes. What he really wants is someone he trusts to work with a young QB within the offense we already run. A lot of the names people are throwing around aren't going to be up for this. They'll want to tinker and put their stamp on the offensive scheme and CBJ isn't going to allow that.

We have never needed an AD more.

If Gilbert is doing this hire, I bet he's your new AD after the dust clears.

Hiring Scott seems like forcing it. The guy has never been an OC, and this is THE pivotal season for Butch again (until 2018 becomes THE pivotal season after a couple of losses). Frankly, if we hire ZA or LS, it's going to be a downgrade from Debord. Those guys may end up being hall of fame OCs, but Tennessee, next year, is not the time or place to roll the dice.

I agree

Who do we get for a qb coach... Scott coaches te and zack is a wr coach no way helfrich comes just to coach qb... does butch promote Sheridan

I want Helfrich but IMO whoever is named QB coach is far more important than who is named OC

The legend of the qb coach continues to grow. This place acts like we didn't just have a Qb that put up huge numbers. This is an example of if you say something enough times many will start to believe it.

The coaches in the top revenue sports and several egomaniacal boosters are all-in on Gilbert, who's going to let CBJ do whatever he wants, within certain financial parameters.

They're gonna screw the pooch.

More bowl observations: Dobbs dropped some dimes out there! He's inconsistent sure, but he is capable of being a good oassernof the football. The deep balls to Malone and JJ (dropped) were perfect. Hope someone develops him in the NFL. Also, TK jr quietly had a great game. His best game since Florida imo

I will try this again.

A poster asked about AD timeline along with S/C coach question and some coaching hire questions.

LWS said it was looking more like it could drag on into Feb. I interpreted that response to mean about the AD hire. But could've meant all the changes as a whole.

Catbone asked this in FF (Sorry CB if I am stealing your Thunder but I haven't seen it posted in RF):

I don't expect a lot more movement in the class so not sure Jones see's that as an issue with coaching changes. Word is all over the place as to when some changes may happen including, maybe not a lot.

Lot of people I speak with were surprised today on the DeBord move so lots could happen that has been quite or nothing could happen

I will say this, lot of important people don't believe waiting on AD until next month will impact Jones making whatever changes he wants to

TKjr did play well. That time he blew up the RB in the backfield when he shot the gap was awesome. (yes, he botched the tackle and couldn't wrap up but they still lost a few yards at the end of the play because of him) I really hope that he gets serious looks at Shoops "star" position next year. I think he can be like JRM and put on some weight and be effective at LB.

Yeah, I think if we want our best players on the field, we need TK, Warrior and Abernathy all on the field. Gotta figure out a way to do that. Byrd at corner, Osborne, Gaulden and let's ride.

So CBJ, Barnes and Warlick want Gilbert. CBJ can do what he wants,Barnes can run b-ball and Warlick keeps her job... depressing

I thought Griffin was the best safety on Friday and he only played one series. Blew up a back out of the back field on a play action pass and then came up big in run support. He's better than TKjr if given playing time IMO.
