The stats where the Vols were 46th in defensive efficiency (FEI)? Or the stats where the defense gave up more than 5 yards per play and were almost the worst in the entire country on fourth down (CFB stats)? Or the part where Jancek's incredible defensive playcalling allowed the Vols to cough up not one, not two, but three late game leads against quality opponents?
CBJ isn't going to go out on a limb with the OC hire. He wants someone to run his offense, not make sweeping changes. What he really wants is someone he trusts to work with a young QB within the offense we already run. A lot of the names people are throwing around aren't going to be up for this. They'll want to tinker and put their stamp on the offensive scheme and CBJ isn't going to allow that.
We have never needed an AD more.
Hiring Scott seems like forcing it. The guy has never been an OC, and this is THE pivotal season for Butch again (until 2018 becomes THE pivotal season after a couple of losses). Frankly, if we hire ZA or LS, it's going to be a downgrade from Debord. Those guys may end up being hall of fame OCs, but Tennessee, next year, is not the time or place to roll the dice.
More bowl observations: Dobbs dropped some dimes out there! He's inconsistent sure, but he is capable of being a good oassernof the football. The deep balls to Malone and JJ (dropped) were perfect. Hope someone develops him in the NFL. Also, TK jr quietly had a great game. His best game since Florida imo
TKjr did play well. That time he blew up the RB in the backfield when he shot the gap was awesome. (yes, he botched the tackle and couldn't wrap up but they still lost a few yards at the end of the play because of him) I really hope that he gets serious looks at Shoops "star" position next year. I think he can be like JRM and put on some weight and be effective at LB.
The coaches in the top revenue sports and several egomaniacal boosters are all-in on Gilbert, who's going to let CBJ do whatever he wants, within certain financial parameters.
They're gonna screw the pooch.
