Chip Kelly hire Helfrich after 3 frustrating seasons at Colorado as OC which should tell you how well he was thought of.. Mike Bellotti tried to hire Helfrich over Kelly a couple years before. Dirk Koetter raves about Helfrichs football mind as does Kelly and he was a QB coach everywhere he went.

Home run.

Debords wife must be pissed. He was all set to retire and then... nope. Just kidding.

He had 48 hours of retirement, at home with the Mrs. and then...

Wish Debord the best. But the narrative that he was good because the total offensive scoring was good is just not true. In 7 of the first 8 games the total points scored in the first half was 48 - that's less than 7 points per half. That's putting way too much pressure on the D as well as the O to come back in the second half. They had 24 in the other one against Va Tech when the Hokies were turning it over like crazy. They simply went against bad defenses in the final 4 games to make it look better than it was. I was impressed with his scheme and play calling against Nebraska - but they were not all that much on D either.

Based on Butch being Butch the common denominator on potential OC's is being from Michigan and CMU, which is Matt LaFleur. They were on staff together at CMU in 2004.

Wait? So the narrative that DeBord was good based off of total numbers is not true based off of the numbers from the first half of 7 games?....and it's from 7 of the 1st 8 games...meaning we have to throw out one of those games in order to make this not true?

Did I get that right?

Makes since to me now. He sucked. Good riddance.

I'm disappointed in VN's level of insanity for the OC search so far. How about Kelly for OC and Peyton for QB coach?

There is only one man who can lead that staff, and it ain't Butch.

Coincidentally this man also owns land in East Tennessee.

With Butch talking about QB coaching and the OC hire in the same breath, I'm pretty confident it won't be an internal hire for OC.

You know here's a random thought. The message board really likes to scape goat: S & C coach, various assistants and coordinators and of course CBJ. So while it is pretty well agreed that that the injuries were a major factor in the under-performance this year, pin-pointing the factor that was responsible is not as simple as going after the S & C coach for instance. Yes there will be turn over there and the conditioning protocols will continue to evolve.

Notably most of the injuries were on D. The team seemed to be fit taking many games into 4 quarters and generally performing well in second halves. Perhaps the new schemes and techniques introduced on the defensive side were not integrated well into the physicality of the team. I am not sure this could be charted or tracked precisely but just different emphasis in effort and method left defenders vulnerable in some aspect of their exertion. I expect that in time an equilibrium will precipitate if this were in fact the case but am not sure all the dynamics of the season can be clearly attributed to one clear factor or another.

Yes there will be change, new challenges, new ebbs and flows of integration as different coaching emerges. Just hope the team doesn't get over-loaded with change. It's a good time for change with so much leadership on offense moving on. Team 121 like every team will experience the challenges of reformation especially with new coaching and conditioning influences. It seems to me that the parts are in place for progress to be made but this is not guaranteed. Hope all the moving parts sync up quickly.

Does basketball have designated conference officials like football? I thought they rotated around.

Basketball officials cover more than one conference, but the SEC has a set number of officials in a pool. So, yes, you will see the same ones on a weekly basis.

For instance, Teddy V. officiates the SEC, Big 10, and maybe one other smaller conference. They try to get in as many games as they can in a week.
