I think some of you seriously misunderstand Butch

UT was in a better shape when Fulmer took over.

Jones also hasn't had to deal with Spurrier at UF to win the east either. And that doesn't appear to be changing with JM any time soon. Not that Jones is gonna take down Saban even if he figures out how to win a poor east division.

No but he does have to deal with Saban which Fulmer didn't. It still effects the standings….

Some people are a little slow on the uptake. Takes 7-10 years to figure things out. I bet you were pissed because they didn't give Dooley enough time but you'll be too afraid to admit that now.

You are a hoot. Over the 21 years I've been a season ticket holder, I'd be willing to bet my money sent to the university is at least 50-100 more times than yours. Coach Jones has brought us out of the depths of despair and into the light again. Does it make you feel like more of a man to tear him down considering he's doing something YOU COULD NEVER DO? Are you jealous because he's building your program back to a point it's not a dumpster fire and if and when we go after another HC, they won't scoff at the chance to coach UT? Keeping spitting your vile you KNPOS......:)

When he stops regularly losing to teams he shouldn't lose to we'll talk.

Until then he's a career 8.7 wpy coach, who is in over his head in the SEC. The used car salesman justifications don't help his case, and just expose him as not big enough for this job.

Therein lies the rub with Jones.

He hasn't done anything at this point in his 10 year head coaching career to suggest we should expect anything other than an 8, maybe 9 win coach.

What has everyone nipping at his heels IMO is the sorry state of the SEC East that his teams have choked away 2 years in a row. Throw in his ueber defensive attitude and healthy ego on display despite not winning an actual championship whenever he gets in front of the press and it's little wonder fans are getting fed up quickly.

Majors would have been fired at ANY power 5 football program today. It was a totally different era when college football didn't mean as much. He was also a beloved Tennessee player with a National Championship. He had built in credibility for the position. Jones has none of this.

First college football has changed…but it has always meant a lot. Jones has turned a program around from a losing program on life support to one step away from being in the mix for the national picture….crawl before you walk….give the man two seasons…if he can't get back in the top ten by then we need to move on.

Its ok guys, we have all been in this position before

We see that shiny new car we have always wanted, but really couldnt afford. This time, we see a better price on it. Then this guy comes out in a brown, 3 piece suit, smelling of Brute and rough sex. He tells you everything you want to hear about the car. It runs great, has the best tires, and he throws in a few oil changes and the next thing you know, its in your driveway. A few years later, its broke down. You go back and the salesmans still pawning off the same crap

If you truly believe this team is one step away from being relevant then you are setting yourself up for major disappointment. 2016 was the peak of Jones career. It won't get any better. Take it to the bank.

It would never happen that way. That's a ridiculous statement.

What is ridiculous is suggesting we fire a winning coach….in four years he has us three straight bowl victories….back in the top 25 two years in a row….and hired a revered DC and on the verge of a splash hire with Helfrich…..We need to let Butch have two more years...

….2017 will be a 9-4 season. However, the trend will start up in 2018….the administration knows it and that is what he is positioning for.

Well I do have 2 degrees from Tennessee so I seriously doubt you've sent them more money than I have.

Our Administration knows he is going 9-4 next year and that the trend will be up in 2018?

Did they have money on 2016 being an 9-4 season with Ls to SC and Vandy?

If any of them are driving a new BMW this week the fix is in.:eek:lol:

No way they win 9 games with the amount of talent being lost and the new coaching coming in.

I have worked with hundreds of experienced and competent people.... who simply weren't top tier. They're OK at a certain level of competition and challenges but they cannot step up. That appears to be Jones. If you watched you could see it early with in game coaching. I was willing (and hopeful) to believe that he was just trying to establish discipline in the first two years. The last two seem to have revealed that he just isn't a very good game day/week coach. At least not good enough to compete in the SEC.

You say, "but he can recruit". Well, that's a problem too. Talent rich states like GA or LA can cover for a mediocre coach for a very long time. Some kids grow up homers and won't go anywhere else. TN doesn't have that kind of homegrown talent... and Jones doesn't seem to be getting the most of what there is.

So he's dependent on getting out of state blue chips to choose UT over other national recruiters and their instate schools. WINNING is a prerequisite for being able to do that on any consistent basis.

Florida is about to get a lot tougher to pull recruits from as well.

People can throw out wise cracks all they want about Kiffin but he and Davis will start keeping more kids in state at Florida Atlantic and Florida International respectively.

Both of those guys are every bit or a better salesman than Jones.

Georgia and LSU must have had it all wrong. I mean who fires a winning coach? Oh yeah Everyone does. OSU fired coached just because they didn't beat Michigan. Could you imagine the brick you'd sh!t if we fired a coach for not beating Bama. Some programs just have higher standards than ours.
