I think some of you seriously misunderstand Butch

I don't know anyone that thought it would take 10 years. With the right hire it shouldn't take 4. Butch has done an admirable job at the rebuild, which is why this season is so disappointing. We saw the potential last year, and it was confirmed this year. But his inability on gameday to get over the hump is telling. It's who he is...and I had people in Cincinnati warn me it would be like this. They couldn't believe we hired him.

Who IS the mythical "right hire" dang it?!

You guys... it's not like they grow on trees. And I firmly believe the lockerroom esprit de corp is just as important as knowing the playbook. We've seen that with Tyler and Da'Rick at Kentucky, with Jalen at USCe. And us older guys have heard that all our lives.

Take Ky...How would YOU as the head coach, get Tyler and Da'Rick to 'WANT to win' and have an 'opportunity' to play in a 'lesser' lesser bowl instead of just go home for Christmas? Don't be shy. Answer it. And don't chicken out with the, "Ain't my job. That's what these coaches get the big money for" excuse. Got a player who don't care, don't want to play to win a game. What are you gonna do?
Bench him? Subs 100% are only 2/3 the player he is, if that. So what do you do to motivate?

It's so much easier to tear down Coach Jones when he keeps putting his foot in his mouth but the man has IMPROVED the program since he's been here. People delight in tearing him down and while I admit we let 2 SEC east championships slip through our hand, where would we be with Dooley?

I'm just as upset as everyone else, but I will not buy into the fire Butch rhetoric, and pretend the sky is falling because each year we have progressed (except for this year with 2 bad losses) We don't have Saban, we don't have Urban, nor the idiot at Michigan, but what we do have is a man who gives his all for the orange and unlike most of the posters here, I donate 6-7k a year for my seats and tickets and he has my support.

Burn him down and make yourself feel better but let's see what your record would be as the head coach at UT given you're at the helm. EXACTLY.... F'n arm chairs. I played ball at a Div 1 AA school but my 1st love was always UT and will always be UT. As they said in the movie " born on the fourth of july" (also served in dessert storm, panama, and operation freedom) love it or leave it! Rebuttal?

You probably shouldn't criticize politicians, mechanics, painters, or chefs with that line of thinking.

4 years and nothing to show for it. When the biggest argument is that he's better than Dooley, that means expectations are nothing.
We expected 1 division title in 4 years. Lyle has failed. If you can't see the massive problems with the program, then idk what to tell you.

It took Fulmer 6 years to win the SEC and he inherited a MUCH better situation than CBJ did. Just sayin'.

The single reason that it took Fulmer so long to win the SEC was Spurrier. If it weren't for him UT would have been in the title game every year. Jones doesn't have anything like Spurrier to contend with in the east.the only reason he loses is because he sucks and beats himself.

Butch has inherited a totally different situation than Big Boy Fulmer. Fulmer inherited a well oiled program machine from Majors. Butch inherited nothing in the way of talent from Dofus Dooley. Give him sometime to get the kinks worked out. Butch is going to have to let the offense play calling go if he wants to be successful.

All this petty childish arguing. Would someone please just tell me if next year is our year? And I mean really, not like all the other years we said it was our year.

Butch has had 4 years to work it out. None of Dooleys players remain. The failure is 100% of Jone's making.

whaaaaaaa:ermm:

Majors went 5-6 in his 4th year….brush up on your history. Majors worked out pretty well for us.

Majors had a really strange tenure at Tennessee, at least when viewed in light of present-day expectations.

He certainly would have been fired after that 4th season, and he didn't truly have a great season until 1985, which was his 9th year as coach.

I am sorry….you are right….it took him 10 years to win 10 games.

UT was in a better shape when Fulmer took over.

Jones also hasn't had to deal with Spurrier at UF to win the east either. And that doesn't appear to be changing with JM any time soon. Not that Jones is gonna take down Saban even if he figures out how to win a poor east division.

Took Majors 10 years to build a program. It doesn't happen overnight.

Majors would have been fired at ANY power 5 football program today. It was a totally different era when college football didn't mean as much. He was also a beloved Tennessee player with a National Championship. He had built in credibility for the position. Jones has none of this.
