I would say 'overanalyzing' in most situations. Not this one. This controversy has not been lost on the entire OU team recently. They knew full well what they were doing and it was intentional. Disgusting.

Totally agree.

Gang, I'm trying to look at the silver lining of this past, less achievement than expected, season. We all know that two obvious factors that hurt were the rash of injuries and the lack of unity created by the Hurd situation. So let's assume they did not happen and they were 10-3 heading into the Sugar Bowl. Would Butch be as willing as he is reported and assumed to be to make changes in the S&C and coaching deficiencies? Add in a new AD's impression of same.

We may have been better off for this happening now rather than a year from now if a performance downturn was probably going to happen in 2017 due to players leaving for the pros and graduating. I know of very few people that want Butch fired at this stage and the program sure does not need it happen at this point. They are just doubting whether he is the long term solution. If he changes that perception with some strong hires now, he could pull this out and go on to bigger and better. Thoughts?

Hmmm, its a hard question when I really think about it. If the injuries didn't happen, is there really a need for a change? If the team still looks comparatively weak, then of course. As far as the other coaching changes, I think it would still be possible given that a couple are supposedly more voluntary moves into admin and that I would imagine Shoop still would want to fix communication issues (Martinez).

Hopefully, Jones shows a willingness to learn from the problems of this season. I think he's shown some ability to do that in the past, so I think its possible he does that this off season.

I think you're last paragraph is a pretty fair summary of where most people are at.

Listening to Brent gush about Mixon last night pissed me off. I wonder if the girl whose face he broke agrees. He should not be allowed to play football for anyone. If you do something like that once then you have it in you to do it again. The NFL doesn't need another Ray Rice situation. If you are on video knocking a woman out when your life is not in danger then you should not have the privilege of playing professional sports.

The teams you're referencing are both 6-7 while we are 9-4.

The teams I'm referencing are 8-5 for Uga, Auburn and tamu. Throughout the year they have at least proven to be highly competitive.

it's not the same thing and you know it.

It's ok for us to have a difference of opinion.

You value head to head pretty strongly it sounds like. I don't as much.

Regardless of what transpired during the season, I think at least one of the coaching changes that will be made was overdue. For me, that's Martinez. I think we have way too many talented DBs to give up as many big plays as we do. There seems to be general technique issues there as well, especially while in man coverage.

The S&C problem is what it is. We messed that whole situation up badly.

I don't know if this a cop out, but I take the "I believe in 2nd chances, but not on my team" approach in these situations. I guess if everyone had the same attitude, then Mixon would be in the market for a new profession.

Also believe Musberger was totally over the line. He was basically saying he hopes Mixon sticks it to all the haters.

He won 9 games twice and had them 2-1 in bowl games. Goes to PSU and takes them from 7 wins to 11 in two seasons.

He's done more than Butch ever has in less time.

Don't see why people get so defensive when someone comes in here and claims another coach is better than our precious CBJ. It is what it is.

CBJ took over a dumpster fire and has also won 9 games twice and is 3-0 in bowl games. Sooooo....hmmmm. Look, the point was not to diminish Franklin. It was to show that he had not done anything up until this season to PROVE that he could become an elite level coach. CBJ has not SHOWN that he is an elite coach up to this point. He has SHOWN that he is a very good coach. There are aspects of being a head coach that he is very good at and he has aspects of the job that he needs to improve on to become elite. He is in the same position many coaches find themselves in during their career.

The fans that hate him and are incapable of removing emotions from their opinions say stupid stuff like "he is terrible and can never be an elite coach" or "he will never win big at UT" and that is just false. He might never become an elite coach. We do not know. What we do know, based on what he HAS SHOWN is that he is very good at a lot of aspects of being a head coach. He has shown more in his career TO THIS POINT that Dabo did when he was 4 years into being a head coach. Dabo continued to grown as a head coach and developed a system that has put him in the conversation with the best coaches in college football. The actual evidence shows that CBJ has that possibility. He might also not grow and have peaked and never become elite. The problem is the idiot fans that think they have any idea whether he will. And it is mostly because they diminish what he has accomplished and have the emotional stability of a teenage girl and can't get over the fact that they don't like CBJ because he is boring and bland and uses cliches. Which is something that has nothing to do with his ability to be an elite coach. Saban is the most boring, bland, cliche coach in college football.

I had to turn that crap off. Watching Mixon on the field plus Mussbergers comments was more than I could stomach. I don't understand how they are getting a pass for this?

Wish the Titans pick via LA could have moved up to #3. Robinson would have had a lot of bargaining power with that and could have easily traded back and regained a 2nd round pick.

I think Williams and a top CB would be a great consolation prize, though. Pair that with some money to spend in the offseason and that's plenty to be excited about.

Considering what Tennessee went through for our supposed "culture" it truly is stomach turning. I mean, the lawsuit was bringing up stuff that happened 20 years ago for heavens sake. Also, since Butch has taken over, any player that even sniffs domestic or sexual assault charges is immediately and indefinitely suspended until the situation is resolved. In the case of any player that is allowed to return, the charges have been dropped. If there were video evidence those players would be gone in a heart beat. Yet Tennessee is the school that has been put through the ringer while Brent applauds Mixon and OU for their second chance policy.

The Big 10 suuuuuuucksssss!

Year in and year out it's always the most overrated conference. Next year people will fall for it again I'm sure.

Yep. I think the Titans legitimately may be just a single draft away from taking over in the AFC South. They'll need to really hit on their picks this year, though. Thankfully, Robinson seems to know what he's doing.

If it was my daughter in that video, I would spend every dime I had making sure Mixon never played again and OU football was destroyed. Of course I'd also be pissed at her for her actions too.
