Shy and KMack missing spring practice again (most likely) really sucks. Going to delay their full development again. Losing Barnett, Lewis, and Vereen also makes it harder to keep Phillips and/or Kongbo at DT. Need Austin Smith to stay healthy and a young guy to step up there to give us a rotation of at least 4.

This is still one of my favorite pictures of Josh Dobbs. I believe it is from his freshman year. I am seriously going to miss having him as our leader and QB. He also has meant so much to our community. Players like him do not come along that frequently. He is one of my favorite players to come through here and I wish him nothing but the absolute best in the future. I think that a few people have under-valued him as our QB in his career. He has gotten a lot of love this year, and rightly so. He was a fantastic difference maker for us, on and off the field.

Dobbs QB rating this year 150.6
Deshaun Watson 151.8

In his final 5 games, he threw 1 INT total.
He increased his TD passes by 12 this season
Completion % increased 3.4%
Averaged 5.5 YPC
Rushed for additional 160 yards, over last year's numbers

So let's talk about our soon to be new S&C coach, Hubbs said it'll be announced this week. Reading his bio it sounds like he's got a ton of experience. The last 16 years in the NFL (Rams, Packers, Saints) and before that 22 years in the college ranks.

Couple things I like about him from just a few minutes of research...he was named NFL Strength Coach of the Year in 2007 with the Packers, he has a ton of experience in both college and pro and for being in his 60's he's pretty ripped himself, guy takes his own medicine. My guess is he's looking forward to getting back on a college campus, I think he's going to whip this team in shape and get some of these guys to do a 180 in the weight room.

Los Angeles Rams: Rock Gullickson
I think i remember reading somewhere that he's usually the guy who helps prospects at the combine with the bench press too.

I know that doesn't make much of a difference when it comes to getting guys ready for football, but it can't hurt to be able to harp on that to recruits.

He does. I've seen photos of him doing so. Also, he was on Hard Knocks and players absolutely loved him.

In my uneducated opinion, Kongbo and Phillips are better suited at DE anyway. I think it works best for them and the team to have them start there and only have them slide in at DT in situational schemes or when needed, but primarily pass rushing DE's.

It's not an uneducated opinion. It's based on observation and common sense. It is also absolutely correct, ob79. They have physiques that are long with quick first steps. They have long arms and jumping ability to block the view of QB's and knock down passes. They are natural DE's that can also go inside in some situations.

Most DT's need wide bases and power to push the pocket on passes and stonewall the O-line on runs. Occasionally an Owen Williams type that has the quickness and enough power to handle himself inside comes along to make up for the lack of push (potentially Picou).

Richmond has control of LT. Some posters on here gave up on him too quickly.

IMO, he still needs to play with more agression. Half the time, he looks like he doesn't care about being out there and doesn't play through the whistle. When he's playing hard, he shows he has the potential to be really good.

I agree on Phillips. But to me, Kongbo looks better at tackle. He doesn't play with the pad level of a DE. But he has good stregth and keeps his head up to play DT really well. And with his quickness, he can create a big mismatch. I hope he sticks inside primarily.

Who in their right mind that is worth a darn would jump into Jones' sinking ship right now? There will be no staff upgrades.

Matt Miller from BR, who is a great source for draft info, has the following in his mock draft.

Barnett going #11 to New Orleans

Cam - 3rd round
Kamara - 3rd round
JRM - 3rd round

Dobbs - 7th round

In my uneducated opinion, Phillips has looked better at DT than Kongbo.

We're gonna have to keep one of those guys as at least a per time DT unless AJ or Picou turns into a beast or one of the freshman we bring in is ready for SEC play early though.

Hopefully whichever one it is comes along well this offseason.

I'm hoping it's just that KP has had more time in an SEC S&C program, but I thought Phillips held up better inside against the run than Kongbo did in most of the snaps we saw this year. Kongbo was the better pass rusher inside though.

Phillips barely played in the bowl. Kongbo was dang good. Writing seems to be on the wall for both and their position for the future.

I'm hoping a strong Senior Bowl/Combine/Pro day can maybe propel Dobbs a bit higher in the draft, but this would be a pretty good draft for us all things considered.

Edit: even Bette if Malone sneaks into the 3rd-4th round.

I noticed that in the bowl game as well and was puzzled bc I though Phillips looked better at DT in SEC play.

Really idc where the staff puts them as long as we get more production from both in 2017. Gonna need them both to take a big step if we want to see a positive step forward on D and both certainly have he potential

Phillips looked better in the South Carolina game but steadily declined after that. Lost his starting spot and wasn't a factor the last few games
