I finally found the Brice quotes 28 pages back. lol I sure would like to know if he has any specific players in mind as big fish.

Unfortunately I'm ahead in this game. You playing it off as a joke is not surprising.

I'm not. The Wonderlic thing was obviously a joke because RB's normally don't take them in the first place, but my point remains that the #1 thing that may hold him back in the draft is football IQ. He didn't play much here last year because they couldn't get him to understand blitz pick ups and offensive schemes. And we all remember the blunder against Vanderbilt when he ran out of bounds on 4th and 2 or whatever it was.

He reminds me of CP. Electric talent, but Minnesota is afraid to put him on the field because there's always a blown assignment or a mistake that's made. Hopefully it's not the case for the Local Trap Star.

The story is that Helfich reached out to Tennessee's Butch Jones to come watch practice and so he and his son did. The question is what does it mean? Specifically nothing, but it let's you know that Helfrich and Jones certainly do know each other. Helfrich is in a great situation in that Oregon, owe Helfrich nearly 12 million dollars. So he can do anything he wants. Could he end up at Tennessee in some capacity? Yes. Could it be as a coordinator if Mike DeBord retires? Yes. Could it be in an off the field role like Alabama has done with fired coaches? It's possible. What we know is that Jones and Helfrich do know each other and we know Jones likes having people around him he knows and is comfortable with. So obviously its something we will all continue to watch.

The first major question that has to be answered is what will DeBord do? Is he ready to step away? Does he want to retire? That decision which will likely come sooner rather than later as Jones and DeBord will certainly visit in the days following the bowl game.

If there is a change look for Jones to talk to several people around the country. One would assume that Helfrich would be one of those as would current tight ends coach Larry Scott. Scott has drawn praise within the program for his input and influence down the stretch of the season with the two tight end sets. Any other offensive staff decisions would be influenced by the direction of things at offensive coordinator if there were a change there.

All players take the Wonderlic. The highest score ever recorded was 49 by a LINEBACKER, esteemed workout wonder Mike Mamula. If you're telling a joke that's obviously not funny, at least have some accurate info in the punchline. :w00t:

I know his brother-in-law. I'll ask him. I know he told me he saw no way Ed O would be head coach there. Haven't talked to him since.

By all means, CAMPAIGN! Offer Glick as a sex slave if you think it'll seal the deal.

more from VQ...

Offensive-Quality Control assistant Walt Wells remains one of two finalists at South Carolina for the offensive line job. Wells is also well regarded by lineman and other coaches at Tennessee. That's something to keep in mind as well.

Defensively, there still remains some talk about what Steve Stripling wants to do long term and you still hear Brady Hoke's name as real candidate if Stripling decides he's ready for something different. Elsewhere on defense we will see what happens after Jones visits with his assistants in the days following today's bowl game.

We would not rule out news in early January and as late as February.

On our weekly, athletic director update, the timetable still remains a bit of an unknown, but it seems that the February window seems very real. According to multiple sources, Chancellor Dr. Beverly Davenport wants to be a part of the search and isn't just going to rubber stamp a hire. Chattanooga's David Blackburn and Tennessee's John Gilbert remain the top two candidates with Blackburn the favorite. Now it will be interesting to see if another candidate or two come on the scene and multiple sources this week would not rule out that possibility. It's expected that they will have formal interviews and that those interviews will be done by a committee of people that will include Davenport, University president Dr. Joe DiPietro among several others which is expected to include some Board of Trustee members as well. It's safe to say that some in the University are growing impatient with the lack of movement in the search as clearly some are ready to get the leadership roles solidified.

What I mean is, the Wonderlic doesn't mean much for a RB. The only time you hear about it is when a QB nails it or fails it miserably.

Do all players take them now? I had a buddy going through the process as a WR and he said he never had to take it.

Yeah... All those first teams you mentioned were near the top of the NCAA in rushing. Check it out

Yep, without injuries our ranking would've evened out and wound up far better than top 40 by the end of the year. I honestly don't know what people expect when you're at the point where you've been forced to START 27 different players on defense because of injuries.

It's like talking to a wall.

Sheesh seems like a lot of coaching changes are coming. Should be interesting to see what happens. Crazy to think we might have a new OC, OLc, DLc, DBc, and S&C coach. Wonder if Thig's days are numbered as well?

Did your buddy go to the Combine? Not all players are invited.

No. But he went to a couple workouts/pro days. Is it just a combine thing? You would think that if they (NFL decision makers) think it's important that it would be universal

It's a Combine thing. Part and parcel of the Shorts Olympics. Pro days and personal workouts don't accommodate all the bells and whistles. If you're not invited to the Combine, they're looking at you as a diamond in the rough anyway and that lessens the need to microanalyze.

Yeah but our injured 60% players and 3rd stringers were better than the starters at Vandy and SC...sarcasm.

We are hearing that offensive graduate assistant/Quarterbacks, Nick Sheridan will have the chance to join the staff at Central Michigan as a position coach. Obviously he remains in play if Tennessee hired a quarterbacks coach but it appears he could be headed north.

Helfrich to OC/QB coach is happening, IMO...
