obama and pearl harbor

He doesn't understand how POWs were mistreated and never will. He's the type that believes the USA is to blame for the actions of the imperialist Japanese.
I would urge him to google "Bataan Death March." We just lost another former POW in town who survived it, and lived to be 100.

Maybe I misremember my history, or maybe I wasbrought up before the time of revisionary history, but the US was not in the war at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. To me, when your in a war, you win it. Period. That is what has been wrong with our policies since WW2. I do not believe that this country would have the fortitude to fight another major war. I hope I am wrong, but that is what I believe. I have no regrets for winning WW2.

Well first off, why would you want to even envision that sort of scenario? Why would we need to fight another major war?

Also, since WWII (we can debate the merits of WWII and what actually caused the bombing of Pearl Harbor in another thread), how many "just" wars has the US been engaged in?

Neither does President Obama or any other sane American. All he said was we can learn from our mistakes as humans and stop killing each other over tribal differences. He explicitly stated in an interview last summer that he would not apologize for historical American foreign policy. I just don't understand the constant hate.

Well, lets be clear about one thing. WWII was not completely about tribal differences. Japan was fighting China, but real reason for Japan's expansion in the east was that they are an island nation with very few natural resources. The English, Dutch and French had control of the resources near them in SE Asia and these European colonial powers had Japan's destiny and energy needs in the palms of their hands.

Germany, less than one generation removed from the Treaty of Versailles, was finally able to rebuild under Nazi rule and pose a threat (industrially and economically) to the British interests in Europe, just as the Germans were beginning to threaten British dominance at the turn of the 20th Century before WWI.

Depends on what you want as an outcome.

In your effort to sound witty and brilliant, you actually make a sinister point. You seem to believe that showing the public the truth about the horrors and consequences of war is a conditional privilege awarded to us. Sometimes we need to be given the truth, sometimes not.

No different than Hillary stating that she has a public position on certain issues and a private position that may differ under certain conditions.

Depends on what you want as an outcome.

Under what conditions would lies and obfuscation be acceptable?

I was only discussing what the President mentioned in his remarks. I am well aware of the causes of WWII.

Well, I wouldn't. I would preferred that WW2 never happened. But it did. Do you think we should not have fought it and put every effort necessary to win it? There will be other madmen or situations which will require maximum effort like Hitler. I just doubt this country will have the stomach for it.
And even asking why we would ever need to fight another major war gives me more doubt that we have the fortitude.

If some of these people were in authority the next madman, there will be one, would take this country like taking candy from a baby. While they were in their safe space.

I think us men outnumber the millennial pansies and we would do enough to keep it from happening, men built it ,men defend it and our country will be fine. Just imagine the draft dodgers if another one were to happen.

Well, technically, it was tribal differences, as it always is. Different tribes wanted the same stuff. lol

My generation has a lot of pathetically weak males. Seeing the conditions of war would do them good to appreciate the opportunity in this country.

I made the "sinister point" that I meant to make, and it is no different than Hillary's positions.

What do you mean it's not your problem? 3000 Americans died that day. If you are able to weigh in on bombing Japan "for POW mistreatment", then you should be able to weigh in on this.

Or do you only give AF about POWs?
POW mistreatment hits closer to home for me. While the Twin Towers was a horrible attack on the U.S. in general, I didn't personally know anyone who was involved.
