AD search got everyone like

David Blackburn isnt the only functional AD out there... why not find the best candidate? It's certainly not a lock that he is, especially if we find that another high profile name might be interested.

Because we need an AD...right now. We can't afford to push the reset button.

Blackburn made too much sense from day one to be the guy.

Tennessee will find a way to let Peyton Manning succeed Cutcliffe at Duke as head coach in 2020.

Hiring a search firm when the obvious AD hire is 112 miles away and doing the exact same job in the exact same university system while having tremendous success is a classic Tennessee move.

We just can't stay out of our own way sometimes. It's unbelievable. This move should have already been signed, sealed, and delivered.

I think most academicians consider it their goal to be hated by the "meatheads" in the AD. Their purpose of education is higher than some dumb game, etc...

I don't think this is remotely true. In my experience most academics are big fans and realize strong athletics are good for a university. Very few I've met go out of their way to antagonize athletes or the AD.

If we had gotten Blackburn already, I'd imagine it'd make things a bit smoother. We could've made some decisions with staff changes and maybe brought in some recruits with the new coaches. (Like Fair, Hoke, Helfrich etc.)

Our next AD (probably...maybe...I dunno).

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the university did hire a woman in an overcorrection from the Title IX issues.

This kind of stance is ridiculous. You don't have to hire a woman in everything to show that the Title IX stuff was taken seriously. Chancellor...fine. AD...no! What's next? Fire Butch and hire the first woman as a college football HC?

Don't want to put words in anyone's mouths here, but it looks like you all are saying a woman under any circumstances could not be qualified to be the AD at Tennessee. Correct?

No,

They are saying there is no need to just "fill the position" with a woman just for appearances.

If she's super qualified, go for it.

Then what's this mean? Was the current chancellor hired for appearances or because she is super qualified?

I'd like to see the reaction to a super qualified woman getting hired as AD.

Well, it seems pretty "meathead" of them if they don't consider that the Jennings catch brought a high interest in enrollment, not to mention all the donors because of athletics...

Both, I think she is well qualified and was hired to appease the Title IX crowd. As for a female ad if we go that way I want the female softball coach(forgot her name). She seems well connected and bleeds orange. Well spoken too

I didn't day antagonize, but I've worked with hundreds of professors who think sports is a cute side project of the school that doesn't really matter and often takes away from the true purpose of a university.
