Most annoying fan base?

The more interesting question to pose to these recruits IMO would be how much social media affects their choice of colleges.

If they answer that it greatly affects them, then there are some more widespread problems socially than the Vols winning and losing some games.

People get far too wrapped up in facebook, twitter, and sites like VN anymore.

I stand corrected.

Crabtree actually did ask this question.

Under Armour All-Americans asked if fans on social media impacted their recruiting process & 74 of 90 said no.

The top 4 "most annoying" fan bases are huge national brands, two of them are absolutely starving to become relevant again, and the other two are well established modern day powers. What, exactly, is such a big deal about this?

Reading most of this thread it appears pretty obvious.

By the way smart guy, It's been PROVEN for many years that the ignorant crap, player bashing and coach bashing spewed here on VN definately DOES have a negative effect on our recruiting.

Players have said it.

Parents of players and recruits have said it.

Here on Vol Nation is 1 of the main places that players, parents and recruits come to learn what UT fans are saying about our footVol program.

Even a fine Lady like MZTERRY quit coming on here and sharing insider info with us about what was going on with the Team and players.

People like you and other infantile idiots have made VN so full of hate and toxic non-stop bashing that we've lost many really good, intelligent posters and some of them also had insider info they would share with us.

We all know there's now several full-time TROLLS who live on here now but please never call yourself a Tennessee fan you useless TROLL!

It's very sad and disgusting that so many real UT fans and great posters have stopped coming here to VN because of sad, pathetic people like YOU!

If people like you would never come here again life and VN would be much nicer!

If we lose top recruits then look in the mirror and you'll see 1 of the reasons we lost them.

VFL...GBO!!!

74 out of 90 Under Armor AA's disagree with you according to Jeremy Crabtree.

People get wrapped around whatever narrative fits them.

Take for instance MSNBC taking a poll of troops in Iraq. There narrative was to prove the war was unpopular amoung troops. So they ask troops if they would prefer to be home during the upcoming Christmas Holiday instead of in Iraq? Well....duh. I cant remember a day I was there, that I wouldnt rather be home, but I still understood why I was there.
Same here, I would expect recruits going to Alabama or Florida to say their fanbase is more annoying than Tennesse. Its just a stupid concept that people latch onto so.they can bash other fans they dont agree with.
I posted that Alabama fans literally get death threats from their fans and it hasn't hurt their recruiting. The first reply to me is OMG I cant believe you think it's okay to send players death threats. So yeah, thats how collectively stupid we are as a fanbase. We think that a fellow fan point out hiw dumb and unconcerning this should be as proof that a fellow fan thinks it's okay to send death threats to a player.
For Christ sake, I will not allow my children to boo at a game to teach them that they shouldnt boo a college player.

This is why fans shouldnt follow recruits/players twitter/instagram/vine/youtube/whatever accounts.

Yep. This happens in all levels of life now.

Inductive reasoning is a lost art anymore. People believe what they are told in the media instead of making conclusions from what is directly in front of them.

Thanks for your service btw.

Honestly the part where two are having great success and two aren't, shows being annoying will not help us win games. Having a BS fan base can be overcome once you are on top, it does nothing to help you get there. Most likely the opposite.

I think the bigger point is, former players, current players, potential recruits, people over recruiting and coaches have all pointed out the damage that can be done.
Unfortunately, there are some just so stuck in their ways, they act like all of them are lying or it's everyone else's issue.

Once it's been confirmed so many times, continuing to deny just becomes one of the greatest examples of ignorance.

one needs to only look at this thread to see how EQUALLY annoying both sides of the Tennessee fanbase are.

You said having a bs fanbase can be overcome once you are on top, but does nothing to help you get there. Are you suggesting that Alabama and Michigan fanbases were not bs before, but are now once they are "on top?"

You might also have missed the link that someone posted says that social media had no effect on 74 of the 90 recruites polled. But I guess, like you said people believe something and get stuck in their ways.

Any of you guys here Steve call the sports animal and say he was just having a terrible day because the two kids chose other schools?

Is there a back story to that before I think that guy is a looney?

Recruiting / sports mixed with social media might be the downfall of society when elderly folks days a ruined because of the decision of an 18 year old kid, Lord help us.

Actually, Alabama's fan base has become exponentially worse since having this run of success. That doesn't mean they weren't always ignorant but they have reached an entirely new level of arrogance and stupidity.

Your second point is it only hurts with some of the good recruits?
Well if it only hurts with some then I guess it's perfectly ok.
And maybe you've missed article after article and interview after interview of current players talking about the negative effect, but I know, I know, that's their problem not yours.

You find anything funny about the fact that you've been on here in protest of this the entire time? Probably not.

Whether it's annoying or not, fans shouldn't be contacting recruits on social media. It's creepy. I feel that every time an adult contacts a high schooler on social media, Chris Hansen should be there to say "Why don't you have a seat...What were you planning on doing here tonight?".

I've said it in the past that we have the most disrespectful fan base and it hurts with recruiting and effects the coaches and players. This only reaffirms my suspicion.

Here was another interesting tidbit from Crabtrees twitter feed:

Another said “Tennessee lied about type of OL was offering. Told me didn’t want inside guys and only tackles but offered bunch of guards.”

I guess the coaches being accused of lying to recruits by a recruit doesn't do as much harm as some fools in the fan base clogging up their accounts?
