Seems pretty obvious Strip wants to take a step back. Happy to still have him around, if that is what he wants.

This. Seems like maybe we're starting to employ some of the tactics that the Gumps use successfully (we'll have our "coach" be an ace recruiter, and we'll hire a really good developer of talent as a "consultant").

Edit: Sort of Swanson'd by, well, Swanson!

If Strip takes a step back but is still around and we add Hoke that's quite the upgrade, IMO. We get to keep Strip AND add Hoke. Those two combined should be able to get our DL playing better and Hoke is a definite upgrade in recruiting.

Fair to replace Willie, add Helfrich as co-oc/qb coach, new OL coach and the Rams S&C coach...2017 staff > 2016 staff. Hopefully it shows in the win column. Win the East or bust in '17.

This sounds like upgrades all around to me and it would definitely help my outlook going into next season.

VFL Jay Graham doing a hell of a job at FSU. Going to have the 2nd RB taken in the NFL draft this year, and has committed 3 of the top 12 RBs coming out of HS.

With Perry out, and still assuming Kamara and Barnett leave, we are at 64 returning scholarship players going into Spring. Still going to see 4-7 more move on.

Yep, plus Austin Sanders walked at Senior Day, so he's likely gone despite being a RS Jr.
McDaniel may not return after his suspension.
Malone may look to the NFL Draft.
We'll probably have a QB transfer by next fall after the competition plays out.
There were rumors of Justin Martin not being back.
Could see a LB falling behind on the depth chart decide to move on.
Attrition will happen. Happens everywhere now. Not the end of the world like some will make it out to be on here.

So a guy that sat out a year due to not making grades and a preferred walk on spell disaster? Come on, there's plenty of better thing that you can use than that to predict impending doom.

Im talking about NFL talent being gone. Plus, he is bringing in maybe 1-2 impact players, lots of project players too that will need development. We will be starting a new qb on top of that. It's not a good development for Jones considering he can't win with a veteran team in a craptastic east division

How confident are you that those changes will happen?

Confident in the Tennessee administration? Not much confidence at all to be honest. But those are the names that have been talked about over and over for the past couple of months as replacements on staff.

would love to make all these changes, but the fact remains that if we don't improve or fix something in our secondary/DBs next season, we are still going to be making every QB look like Tom Brady. We can get healthy on the D line and improve in the middle at LB, but if our secondary continues to be as horrific as it was this season, we are still in trouble.

We have guys with the necessary athleticism. Just need the coaching to be there.

It looks like Trey Smith is lining up at both LG and LT for Team Highlight.

Maleik Gray should be a good defensive option for Team Armour. Gray is playing linebacker but with each team probably running the spread he'll essentially be a nickel at times.

All those leaving coupled with this recruiting class spells complete disaster for Jones. I'm telling you boys, he's on borrowed time. Unless he can somehow learn to coach by August we are looking for a new coach this time next year. Sucks being a vols fan

Who are "all those" leaving? Are you referring to Hurd and Williams, too? Williams created his own problem because he had chances.

If you were banking on Vincent Perry returning, then I don't know what to tell you. The chances are never great for a player to return after a year off when he isn't even with the program.

Yes. I think a coaching upgrade is priority one there. Would also like to see TKjr. bulk up and move to star and Byrd move to corner. I think Byrd and Buccanon could make a really nice duo at CB with the right coaching.

Well, maybe his veteran team ended up with big egos that he couldn't control. That is on him. But sometimes, when they leave, you are left with talented team-first players, who are trying to prove themselves. The east won't be that much better.

We didn't use a star LB this year.

Yeah I guess I'm assuming Jones will wisen up and actually let Shoop run his own defense which, from what I've read and seen, had always made extensive use of the star position in his base package before this year.

I kind of have the feeling Shoop didn't use one because he didn't have a guy he liked to put there. Tried to sell Stevens and Gibbs on being that guy. Both nope'd out.

Can't be too upset about the hoke and helfrich hires if they happen which I hope they do. Why are people not wanting them because they failed as head coaches, Nick Saban does the same thing with failed head coaches and people think he's a genius Tennessee fans are never f****** happy, I wish some people on here would find a new team to cheer for
