Obama's parting gift to Israel

Oh come on. We've been vetoing stuff in the UN for 40 years in this dispute and it hasn't worked. Although Trump has made a coupe of critical comments, his overriding message has been that our participation in the UN is going to become far less active. Trump is much less willing to entangle us in that quicksand than anyone. You're fooling yourself if you think Trump is going to get aggressive in that.

Perhaps Bibi should be a little more careful next time when he decides to take up invites from US political parties to speak before Congress in order to bash a sitting American president.

This is true, but also consider the "sitting president" involved. He's never had any respect for Israel so why should Bibi?

Israel certainly deserves some of the blame for the current situation and whether some organizations are labeled terrorists or freedom fighters is one perspective.

Israel was attacked without provocation and defeated their attackers seizing additional lands in the process, what they do with that land is their business. If the surrounding Arab countries were so sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian people they might open immigration up to them.

Why do libs not realize this? They were attacked by virtually all if their Muslim neighbors, unprovoked, and only through great leadership (and in my opinion, divine appointment) did they decimate their opponents in a week. In the process, they gained some real estate. Should have taken more IMO and there wouldn't be this controversy. If Mexico and Canada decided to jump us, we would have no problem taking any territory that we wanted in the aftermath. Israel is no different. Libs need to figure this out, Pronto. Isreal needs our support, they have always been 1 of our staunchest allies.

The Bush administration drafted essentially the same resolution as well. But history is long and hard.

Personally, I think someone needs to grab the Israelis by their shirt collars and shake them until they get it together and realize that these settlements only make things worse for them, but that's just my opinion. I would, however, like to see us push the UN to be less harsh on Israel, since Israel often seems to get condemnation for things that other states - ones that are far worse - get a pass on.

About this particular abstention, I think it is Obama's parting shot at Netanyahu for his attempts at publicly driving Obama's name through the mud at practically every opportunity. Not the least of which was Netanyahu's speech before Congress nearly two years ago, which remains the most ignominious act performed by one of our political parties, although Trump's public siding with Putin to slam Democrats is pretty darn close.

Anyhow, none of this will matter in a couple of months. Meanwhile, if Israel wants to continue expanding its settlements, it had best be drafting its defensive gameplan for when the Fourth Intifada starts.

:good!:

The problem is trump is a bald face liar. Waiting for the wall.

I remember a few weeks ago that the media said Trumps cabinet was anti-Semitic. That same media is pretty quiet today. Funny stuff. #FakeNews

How did anything you said address my comment?

Israel has and continues to attack civilians in the same way they complain about when it is done to them. The acts of Israel when reversed would be labelled terrorism if performed by Hamas. Israel can keep the land, but in order to do so would probably have to eradicate all that lay claim. The spoils of war are just that, but keeping them often proves a challenge to the invading country. It is lesson that was taught to England countless times.

Or, the Palestinians could choose to assimilate into the Israeli system. If they would have done that a few decades ago by sheer birthrate they would outnumber the voting age Jews and be in charge.

Well, I guess they have chosen a different path. I still view their path as one that should be expected by an invader. Also, Palestinian Israelis are not granted the same rights as Jewish Israelis.

Arabs/Palestinians who accepted Israeli citizenship (most have refused) have exactly the same rights as Jewish or Christian citizens. Arab/Palestinian citizens have been elected to the Knesset, serve as General Officers in the military and even on their Supreme Court.

The Palestinian plight is of their own making.

Assimilate into the conquerers or die?

Israel is a Jewish State and gives preferential treatment to Jews. One needs to look no further than the Jewish National Land Fund and citizenship laws in Israel.

Maybe you should volunteer to take in a Palestinian family.
