After an incredible eight years with Brent Hubbs and Volquest, my time on an amazing adventure with an incredible group of men is coming to an end. As Brent said, Friday will be my last day with Volquest as I cover my last Tennessee football game in Nashville.
Ill be taking a position outside of the industry in a decision that has been one of the hardest choices of my life. Brent has been nothing short of a saint towards me and my family over the years.
As a 5th-year senior in the fall of 2009, Brent took a chance on a scrawny, awkward kid that wanted to cover recruiting. He, along with Rob, John and Austin, pushed me to be the best reporter I could be. Off the field, they helped me be a better man.
I couldnt have asked for a better boss, and more importantly friend, than Brent. Like Brent, Rob has been an incredible mentor and friend over the past eight years. Both have taught me so many things that its impossible to list everything theyve done for me.
Austin has been a blast to have around more the last few years and he has done nothing but crushed it this fall.
The conversations telling these three were some of the toughest Ive ever had.
Probably the single most asked question has been, Why? I understand. I have had an amazing job with a great group. But, as many here know, my wife and I adopted our son and daughter 20 months ago and life looks much different now.
Ive missed a lot with them already and I want to make sure I am able to be in their lives as much as possible.
Ill miss talking football on a daily basis, but Ill miss the relationships Ive built with Brent, Rob and Austin more than anything. Theyve become closer than just friends.
Thanks to everyone on the GQ for being great to deal with. You let me be a part of the team your trusted for your information on Tennessee for longer than I deserved.
