I'm looking at the 42 & 43. I like the power of the 9mm but the 42 is smaller and would be easier to carry, and it's $120 cheaper. Still waffling though, but I guess six 380 hollow points would do just fine if I really needed them.
Have you compared the G42 & G43 side-by-side? I agree the G43 is a little bigger, but I personally don't think it's enough to make a difference. We're talking only a slightly bigger frame, but they're very close width wise. Of course, the difference in cost is always a valid consideration.
As for .380 v 9mm....well, that always boils down to preference. There has been study after study comparing the "stopping" power of the two rounds, and there are as many different outcomes as there have been studies. It just boils down to what you prefer. I will say, though, the FBI and a lot of police agencies across the nation are returning to the 9mm as their round of choice. Most are returning to the 9mm from the .40cal, but the 9mm seems to be the current trend for various reasons.
I suggest going to a local gun store that "rents" each of the models and compare your personal shooting ability between them. What really matters is how effectively YOU can manipulate the firearm, gain target acquisition/re-acquisition, and get rounds down range and into the bad guy safely.
Oh, I would compare the cost of ammo too. Sometimes the difference in the models can be made up in ammo costs over a little bit of time... Just my .02 though....
