No AD hire till February according to Jimmy Hyams

I don't know whether you're right or wrong, but it's amazing how fans have created this scenario in their minds... that Blackburn is an administrative genius and the only guy for the job and anyone else would be a disaster.

That's not quite the point I'm trying to make. I'm not saying Blackburn is a lock to be an exceptional AD. But by all accounts, Blackburn is the guy most everyone wants. If we can't make it work with him and simply resort to promoting the assistant of a failed athletic director because it makes our current coaches feel better about their job security, it's a good sign that the people with a desire to win are losing the battles to those who are perfectly with happy with mediocrity.

Edit: To clarify, I certainly don't think Blackburn is the only one who can succeed, and I'm not one of those guys who think the AD must have Tennessee ties. However, hiring Gilbert would tell me Tennessee is embracing irrelevance. I don't think it will be Gilbert, though.

You said in another thread (chancellor thread), that there will be staff changes, so an AD needs to be in place asap, because coaches do not want to come to a place where no AD in place and would put Tennessee behind 8 ball, so are they willing to be behind 8 ball or what? I guess I just do not see how Tennessee could wait long unless no staff changes and no other imminent issues to address in any sport for that matter.

There may not be staff changes until after NSD. People are not sure when CBJ is thinking of doing anything.. three schools of thought, after bowl game, during coaching convention or after NSD.

Butch and DB have spoken. they might have a plan already. not to worry

The only way to guarantee a Blackburn hire is to get Peyton and Phil involved. If they don't get involved and Gilbert is hired, then it is on Peyton.

I'm thinking that Peyton will stay in the background and we will likely see Bama Jon as the new AD - a guy with no experience as the "Head Guy". Blackburn has made some good hires at UTC.

Yah, I'm pro-Blackburn, but I don't think Gilbert would be the end of the world.

Not to disagree just for the sake of it but saying DH is a failed AD is not held by everyone....Argue, scream, explain, pontificate, etc. but he's just not considered that by a lot of people...of course he's an easy target and I get that. But I dare say most, maybe not you, but most here have NO CLUE what an AD does on a daily basis...no idea what his morning to night schedule looks like or what decisions he actually makes....Anyways...AD's are usually overrated as to their effecting a program anywhoo...USUALLY!!!

My sentiments exactly

Is Peyton involved in this decision?

Hart had a task. Hart completed that task.

His hires have been underwhelming, but there is still time for Butch to pull out of this nosedive and I'm not sure we could have done better than Barnes at the time.

I believe he is all for Blackburn. Seems like Peyton really pushed his former teammate to UTC job and that's who Blackburn hired. Could be a coincidence though

He was vocal early on with a few more influential people in regards to the AD.

Can someone explain what the outrage is all about? What is so devastating about naming an AD in February?

The more delays, the more I think it may not happen. Still think it will, but delays give time for things to fall apart, and often, that's what some people are hoping for.

Are you saying Butch called ANOTHER time out?????

Dave Hart was brought in to manage the merger of athletic departments. That's over, so from that point of view, he's not necessarily a failure. From a perspective of hiring coaches, he's unquestionably a failure. Let's not pretend this is actually a retirement, either. It makes no sense to remove him to promote his assistant.

Manning had absolutely no input on the Chattanooga hire.

I agree and hopeful as well. Harts other job when he came as an outsider is to drop Lady Vols from the git go, but Pat had enough of a following to make them keep WBB.
