No AD hire till February according to Jimmy Hyams

Jimbo's new deal starts out with 44 million dollar buyout. If that is what UT fans would like to see, they can forget it. Never see UT constructing a contract with that kind of buyout attached to it..

if that is what you mean by opening the checkbook, then it ain't happening here.

I saw that - his buyout is insane.

No, it starts decreasing beginning in January. The idea of it taking over 44 million to hire him is that he'll only leave to get a raise. Reading really is fundamental.

It does start decreasing but the 44 million is guaranteed. If they fired him without cause tomorrow - he would walk away with 44 million.

That may be true, but I have a hard time believing that we can't go through whatever channels exist and do the normal off season business of replacing assistant coaches.

The only vacancy is the S&C coach. He could likely be hired in January. I hope it is someone who is willing to put in the hours needed during the off season workouts. Only the S&C staff can have personal contact with the players as a group.

You're looking at the wrong buyout, bro. The key words are without cause. So, if they start to suck.

Breakdown: Jimbo Fisher?s new contract extension with Florida State - Tomahawk Nation

This could be the future - given the coaching carousel that is now part of this "I want it and I wanted it yesterday" culture.

What is interesting is that Fisher is on a downward projection after the NC in 2013 yet FSU still extended him. FSU fell from 1st to 2nd and now to 3rd in their division over the last 3 years. I guess the talks with LSU were the trick for him.

I don't think FSU is trending down. The ACC as a whole was quite good and he started a freshman QB.

I expect them to enter 2017 as a legit title contender. You can't win it all every year.

Am I wrong for thinking the standard buy out should be the balance of the contract for both the coach and the University? Just seems more in accord with the very definition of "contract."

I didn't read all 11 pages so I'm sure this has already been posted

Jimmy Hyams ‏@JimmyHyams
Also, contrary to reports, Tennessee booster Charlie Anderson told me he has no issue w/ David Blackburn as candidate for athletic director

the only standard is what a specific agent and college can agree on. there are not a set of standards.. agents can ask for whatever they want and if an institution wants to pay, they say okay.. that's the process.

I gotcha. I guess a better way to say it on my part is that I'm just a bit surprised that "balance of the contract" does not seem to be the typical buy out in these situations.

While I dont treat Hyams word as truth, would it REALLY shock many of you to see the UT administration completely screw up the new AD hire? It wouldnt shock me in the least.

You still think before the bowl game?

And where did those words of wisdom come from??? With such insight, who will it be in February? If I was a betting man, I would bet you a bunch that it will be Blackburn.

She would have been on the job nearly two months by then and Blackburn clearly wants the job so what would be the holdup other than looking at different candidates? I didn't realize he was the only one capable of doing the job? It could be one of many candidates by then

Define "screw up". For some of you that seems to be "not selecting whomever you think it should be".

And then if it is whomever you think it should be and that person doesn't hire / fire whomever you think said person should hire / fire - all of you will no doubt turn on that person and say they blew it.

I don't call taking time to get it right screwing it up. With the change at these three roles, the university is setting the direction for years to come. It is important they end up with the right folks that are in sync.

Some of you are only interested in ensuring that the AD is someone who may not work well with Coach Jones. I for one want someone who can and will work with him and all the coaches for all sports to be successful - because them being successful means the university is successful without having to take the risk that comes with starting over with someone new.

She isn't starting until February, so she would not have been on the job for two months at that point.

my sources still say soon. might be week after bowl game. But Jimmy's sources are pretty good and in the AD saying February. I like mine and do think Butch will have a boss when he starts making changes.

First off I dont know who would be a great AD. I have admitted this. Thats why I have asked others to offer me info as to why Blackburn would be a good AD. By looking at his resume, he seems to be a good candidate.

I dont care if the AD loves or hates Butch Jones. I dont want an AD who is going to hire/fire whoever the fans want. I want an AD who puts UT athletics as their main priority and does whats best for the program.

A "screw up" in this situation, in my opinion, would be this. The UT administration waits around, twittles its fingers, makes a search and hires someone who is not fit for the job. Or maybe they listen too much to one of the coaches at Tennessee, and hire the AD they would want. Think about the total screw ups the UT administration has made in the past. Why do you think Tennessee ever got into the situation that we have been? The REAL reason why UT was in the dark ages is because of its administration. Their decisions have made fans like me extremely leery of important moves they make.
