The Problem of Whiteness

Not when injustice based on race still persists.

You want us to stop talking about race before racial injustice is corrected. That would only keep the racial injustices in place.

The only way to move forward is to fix the problem not ignore it.

Racial injustice can ONLY be resolved when a person's race is no longer their identifying trait. We cannot continue to identify ourselves or others by race and expect not to have problems arise from it. So yes to stop talking about races would be a good thing.

On a tangential sidenote, I have stopped using the hyphen for any American subgroup. If you're black, you're black to me now. No more African-American. If you're Hispanic or Latino, you're Hispanic or Latino to me now. No more Mexican-American, Colombian-American, Puerto Rican, etc. If you're Irish-American, you're just white. Even if you're Native American, it doesn't matter to me anymore; you're now either Indian or First Nations people. (I've always liked First Nations best anyhow, because it sounds mythic and cool; I have no clue why we haven't adopted that like Canada did long ago.)

I don't like the way we keep pigeon-holing our identities as a culture today. While it may make some of us - especially the historically disenfranchised - feel good about ourselves today, it will only create further room for divisiveness in the future. Going the way of identity politics never ends well.

Agreed about identity politics. Sadly a good portion of the left doesn't agree with that. Bernie Sanders was called a white supremacist for simply saying that being a minority alone wasn't reason to vote for someone and that the left had to move beyond identify politics

What racial injustice?

You seem to fall back to that question constantly.
You're a couple post away from me concluding that you are a white supremacist. Are you? If not, do you mainly agree or disagree with them?

I'll try to throw out a few ways that white supremacy could hurt if left unchecked.

98% of top jobs go through a hiring process controlled by white people (made up stat but probably close) They only hire whites.

Major contractors (white) only hire white subcontractors.

Top universities deny non white applicants.

Refusal to sell houses to black people in better school districts.

But let's play your game and assume white supremacy in no way harms minorities ability to improve their plight. Any failure is due to personal choices and liberal policies.

Do you support the concept of white supremacy?
Do you think it has an overall positive effect or negative effect?
Do you personally believe the white race is the over all superior race?

lol. in the real world its the opposite, at least here in Atlanta. Subs can and are fired for being too white. and don't know of any subs we have ever had that had only white people, and only a couple that might have been 50%.

Average days on my project it's 3 or 4 white guys, 100 or so Latinos, and a handful of blacks. Only white guys are management...which is probably 66white/33%Latino. White construction workers are sadly becoming a thing of the past in the south. My carpenters make good money too...16 to 23 or 24 dollars an hour. Laborers fresh off the bus make 12. Sadly, I think white guys are just too lazy these days to perform the same HaRd work I grew up doing. Wish it wasn't so...

I tried telling them earlier that before government got involved black people controlled the construction industry in the south. Then northerns got tired of being out bid by cheaper labor, so they created laws requiring government contracts be paid a fair wage.

But of course he ignored it because in his mind unions, minimum wage, and equal pay laws help minorities.

I kind of want to get in on this, but you guys seem to have it well covered.

I still kind of want to open a can ITT.

I thought about it too but waived off since I'm pretty sure D4H is a troll having a good laugh - I can't imagine a person being this disconnected.

Lol subcontractors being mostly white is hilarious. most subs are ghost policies and a bunch of Latinos falling victim to a gc that doesn't want to pay comp.

little do some GCs know that a claim can still be filed.

Pitiful. If someone posted a stupid ignorant racist article by a professor saying the problem with blackness, give me a break. The problem is with closet racist on both sides, most normal people of any color knows better and lives their life as such.

It would be like someone making a movie in response to "White Men Can't Jump" and calling it "Black Men Can't Think" or something like that.... the outrage would be comparable
