Is Helfrich @ OC a legit discussion?

Sark hired at Bama, so no helfrich to bama. I really wish we could get him here so bad.

Guarantano and Helfrich would be outstanding together.

UT would be a perfect fit for Helfrich. Young talented QBs to mold and an offense that is similar to what he runs. I'm all for him coming.

BUT, will Butch give Helfrich full control?

Where else is there for Helfrich to go that would have the players and resources like Tennessee? I think Helfrich would be amazing at Tennessee with our players. He would be able to help Butch on offense and the development of our QBs under his leadership would be huge for our on-field success.

LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama are off the table. I guess Pitt has an opening now. Any other big programs looking for an OC?

I think bringing Hoke and Helfrich is a huge upgrade, and maybe they both feel like staying together and coming to Tennessee together is a great opportunity. And getting them both may be a good package deal and way of bargaining with them.

FWIW, JAV of 247 mentioned that Helfirch is more likely than not at this point. Also stated that Hoke and Fair are real possibilities as well, with Fair being more likely.

I'll take it. Sounds like upgrades all around, although I do feel like Stripling was pretty solid.

How about this head coach at James Madison for OC? They're taking it to North Dakota State, the five-in-a-row reigning FCS national champs. The guy obviously knows how to make a dollar out of 15 cents (a dime and a nickel).

I agree, but the good thing there is if it is true that Strip wants to take a lesser off field role, and Hoke does comes in, at least he will still be involved with the program. That way he can maintain his connection with players and recruits.

Wow. I have to say that if these changes actually happen, my attitude towards Butch will change. He truly would have a much better claim to the "best staff in America."

I would love these hires. More importantly though, I hope Shoop loves these hires and they gel quickly.

That is the important part. Dabo Sweeney was failing at Clemson to the point where the phrase "clemsoning" gained popularity. (If you haven't seen the press conference of Dabo getting made at that phrase, you should. Gold) So what did he do? He went out and surrounded himself with an all star staff with venables and Chad Morris before he left.

Orgeron can succeed at LSU, but he will have to rely on top notch assistants. I hope Butch took notes and upgrades our staff as well.

Butch sees the times our offense was good and thinks Debord is a keeper. Not the times that we couldn't come up with an offense to run Aooy, SC, or Candy in ground like we should have. Not to mention playmakers like Dobbs, Kamara, and Jennings made him look better. Debord sucks, is flat 90%of the time and predictable. And will be out coached every time

How often is this JAV guy right saying we will get terry fair, Helfrich, and Hoke? We get these 3 coaches, and I'm feeling a whole lot better about next season!

VQ poster I believe. Hopefully he's right a lot and right about this. I think these hires would be perfect. Curious what he would do with Debord though. Does he retire? Move to OL? Co-OC? Either way, Mahoney has to go too.

The guy doesn't speak unless it's a real possibility, him saying that means it's at least been brought up and not just a rumor/rumblings. With that being said, he did not say it was a done deal. He said Helfrich is more likely than not at this point. Hoke is a real possibility. And Fair is most likely to happen. Let's hope Butch does it right and brings them all on board.

From what I've read, DeBord would move to Co-OC/OL and Helfrich would be Co-OC/QB. However, I haven't seen anything about Mahoney. Obviously for DeBord to move to OL, Mahoney would need to be fired. Also, with Helfirch potentially joining the staff, would he be ok with a Co-OC role. There are still a lot of questions to be answered.

I suspect it would be Co-OC in title only. Helfrich would call the plays.

Pretty sure I read where someone in the media, I think it was Brice, said something to the effect that Mahoney didn't get an extension when the rest of the staff did and that "the writing on the wall there was more like graffiti." Although not as directly stated anywhere, I have read that there is some smoke around Martinez being out and Debord and Stripling either retireing or taking something like quality control roles on the staff. If they pull off the latter while bringing in the likes of Helfrich, Hoke, and Fair, that's a big boy/Bama level coaching staff move IMO.

I agree, and while some recruits are concerned with coaching turnover, if you bring in names like that they'll only see an upgrade and probably want to come to Tennessee more than before.
