Why not? Going 8-5 with this roster and expectations is UNACCEPTABLE.

He should've already lost his job for the debacle at Vanderbilt.

Its funny to me how accepting of mediocrity many on here are.

I'll go out on a limb and say no one on this board has the authority to fire him.

Dumb statement.

I'm not sure he will be overlooked, though. Everything I've seen has him as a top 10 pick.

Seen #7 to Carolina and #6 to Cincinnati just in the last couple days. He's getting attention.

The REAL experts at evaluating NFL talent have taken notice. Barnett is a big time talent with an amazing motor.

Ignore D4H. He's clueless.

Did I say anything about acceptance?

The AD situation firmly cements his job until 2018 IMO

It only takes a few plays to see what Myles Garrett is about.

He's athletically on a different level.

I see him as the next Bruce Smith. He'll define the DE position for the next 10 years.

Guess you only watch the few plays he gives effort and ignore the majority he does nothing. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane until it's school of the blind in the other end. Will be drafted because of potential but film and stats don't lie. Barnett the safer pick

Coaches at TN never get fired for wins and losses. Coaches get fired when it becomes economically needed. When revenue drops to where it is more expensive to keep the coach than it is to retain him/her. When ticket revenue drops and more importantly, big donors slow down their charitable contributions to the point where firing the coach becomes a financial liability, that's when coaches get fired. Ticket sales (projected as well) are extremely strong, and donations are very good. As long as it stays that way, Jones will be here as long as he wants to be here. Jones could go 6-6 next season and still be retained unless it makes economic sense to fire him.

In the past 5 minutes you've edited a post to go from saying "He's not athletic" to saying "He's a below average athlete" to "He's not a top tier athlete" to finally "He's a decent athlete"

You got a problem with me trying to clarify my statements?

If I said he's not athletic, that would be false. Its highly unlikely to be playing big time college football and not be athletic. A more approriate statement would be he's not an elite or top tier athlete. In NFL terms he would be about average or "decent".

Excuse me for not being as clear as I wanted to be from the start.

Fans may not have the authority but they don't have to defend him at every turn. That is my problem with the statement I quoted. It seems like many here are okay with mediocrity and don't mind keeping a failure like Butch Jones around.

True, but misleading. Most of Barnetts sacks came against SEC talent while Most of Myles were against teams like UTSA.

Last I checked all the games count not only the conference games.

And if Barnett is so good against SEC talent, why can't he get a sack against the likes of App State?

That may be the worst logic I've ever seen used on this board. DB dominates good teams but didn't have a good game against a mediocre team so he sucks?

Gtfo Derek. Clearly a fraud.

EDIT: he had 7 tackles, 1 TFL, & one QB hurry against App St. He sucks.

UT fans are insanely loyal... but donations may be down. The begging calls have increased as they try to meet annual giving goals. I'm a little surprised MCB tickets sold so fast, but Vol fans always show up.

If Barnett is so much better than Garrett against better competition, shouldn't it not even be close overall once the lesser competition is brought in?

Kinda doesn't make sense for Barnett to disappear when we play lesser competition.

You're so right. Barnett just isn't a good player because he can't get a sack against App State..

VQ War Room thinks it is Blackburn for AD. They have had some say it could be before Christmas, it just depends on how quick Chancellor Davenport interviews Gilbert and Blackburn.

If football was played without pads, in spandex, without an opponent, and took place on a synthetic rubber asphalt track D4H would be much better with his player evaluations. Hopefully he gets a big round shade hat and a stop watch for Christmas.

Hard to reconcile that with how bad of a fan base we are.

So they are making the call with some degree of certainty before the interviews?
