In Praise of Josh Dobbs, Passing Quarterback

Yes, I believe he'll be drafted.....mid to late rounds.

However, I don't believe he was the best qb in the country this year, I don't believe he should've won the Heisman, I don't believe that he'll be drafted in the first round and I don't think he'll dominate the NFL on the way to the HOF.
You've never heard me say any of that but I will say with the right team and QB coach he could be pretty good in the NFL.

As for his career here at UT, he's in some pretty good company.

If you agree with D4H , he'll be a top 10 pick. :)

Not only that but an NFL GOAT, First ballot HOF, cure cancer with a hail Mary, pilot a mission to Mars AND back to earth, defeat the Greek Titans and Cronus with no offensive line, and accurately read a professional defense..

No he's not. Your youth and inexperience is really showing here. It's not remotely true that the most talented players always make best NFL players. Garrett has a competitive issue....he doesn't play his best vs the best collegiate competition. Unless he changes that, he has bust written all over him....like Jadaveon Clowney.

Giving yourself an out ehh?

Stop waffling and stand by a position. Will Myles Garrett be a bust or not? Don't give me no ifs.

Against App State his numbers weren't great. The argument that he only excelled against weaker competition is flawed. Why didn't he excell against App State then? It's more likely that he just got better, period, the last four games.Imo anyways. He can make all the throws and I look forward to what he does in the NFL.

Also we have bad coaching. It seems like they waited until the season to let Dobbs loose.

Myles Garrett will be a bust IMO. Barnett will have the better NFL career. He's more productive against better competition. Garrett just has the NFL "look" which is why he'll be drafted higher.

Well then don't quote one of my posts to make your point....when point has nothing to do with the discussion I was having with D4H.

Dobbs has been a very good qb for Tennessee and he made great strides throwing the ball this year.

The fact is that I've been advocating for and defending Josh Dobbs since he was a freshman, which is before D4H even joined VN. I just disagree that Dobbs is better than Deshaun Watson, should've won the Heisman and is a future first round pick and NFL HOFer. Are you sure your point is "Josh Dobbs is good just like D4H says"....cause if it is, you agree with those points.

Many on here have to have it black or white ...when in fact there are shades of grey. I am , as you know, in the give Butch a chance crowd . Whatever the stats say, this offense had major flaws and did not fit the skill sets of Dobbs , Hurd and others. The scheme itself hung the offensive line out to dry . The results were boom or bust, score alot fast or dont score and dont possess the ball. Even though I will support Butch to an extent, I am critical . The same with Dobbs.

He hit big plays . He could not maintain a drive MOST of the time ...boom or bust. His failure to deliver the ball accurately with 2.5 seconds lent itself to these west coast patterns timing out and drive failures. His ability to run and buy time , lent itself to the explosive plays.

I can fault him so much as I can whoever insisted on this scheme for him and his teammates. I think that a power based , short passing ( TEs RPOs ect play action ) would have been a better bet . IT also would have kept the defense off the field for 930 snaps ( mind blowing with the depth issues ) and may have saved a bunch of injuries from happening .

It is possible for Dobbs to have put up big stats and be ineffective at the same time

Thought you just posted you agreed with D4H....you said "Josh Dobbs is good just like D4H says"......and that's what D4H says. Well, either that or this that is ....

"I can't believe I thought Dobbs could pass the ball.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for everything I said over the summer. This team sucks and this QB is terrible."

Anywho, apologies if I misunderstood. Was thinking you were giving a blanket endorsement to D4H's thoughts (I think) on Josh.

You love quoting me from months ago how about my last post?

Why are you running away from taking a position on Myles Garrett?

Will he be a bust or not?

All you ever do is waffle.

No out. If he is the sane Myles Garrett in the NFL that he is today, at TAM, he will be a major bust. How's that? If you read that as an "out", then that's on you.

He wasn't nearly as good as Derek Barnett in college and I don't believe that'll change when they get to the pros.

No. I say it because he's the most talented player in the country. The fact he's the most talented is what makes him can't miss for the NFL.

And no he's nothing like Clowney or the rest of those busts you cited (not including Vick who has actually good). Myles Garrett is worlds better than Clowney. He's bigger, faster, stronger, and more athletic.

What metric is used to solidify Garret as the most talented? Besides YOUR eyes.

Vick was not good. How is Myles worlds better? You say he is bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic? How do you know this without using stats?

That is literally a non-answer.

All you said is if Myles Garrett is what you think he is right now he'll be a major bust in the NFL but if he isn't what you think he is right now then he won't be.

I don't care what you think he is right now. I want to know whether you think he will be a star in the NFL or a bust? Will he better than Derek Barnett?

Stop trying to weasel out.

VolFreakJosh wasn't scared to say flat out that Myles Garrett will be a bust. Either say he'll be a bust, a star, or average. No more waffling and trying to cover your ass in case Garrett goes off next year for 15 sacks as a rookie.

All I need is my eyes to judge talent. The rest of that is for the less gifted.

And according to my eyes Myles Garrett is Bruce Smith 2.0. A hall of fame NFL career awaits him.

I thought this thread was about Dobbs and his contributions to Tennessee.

Didn't realize we had to have a conversation about Myles Garrett in order to say Dobbs would be missed.

I agree Dobbs is very good. The stats back this up. I also said he would get drafted to the NFL when D4H said it and everbody was laughing.

What I didn't say is that he would win the Heisman, be drafted in the first round or get in to the HOF.

You and your stupid all or nothing/extreme comments/predictions.

Yeah, and both of you guys say some ish that makes no sense. Derek Barnett was a much better collegiate player than Myles Garrett and will be a much better pro player than Myles Garrett based on what we know today. Garrett looks better in his uniform and Barnett looks much better in the box score after making more plays. See no reason why that would change at the next level, period.

Btw, while you're making all your all or none BS statements like you usually do, how did these turn out for you??

1. North will go no later than the 4th round
2. Trevor Knight will have much better stats than Chad Kelly this year
3. Tennessee will go 15-0 and win the national title
4. Tennessee will average 50ppg on offense in 2016
5. Cam Sutton will be the first corner taken this year, ahead of an overrated Tabor and Adoree Jackson who is more an athlete than a corner.

Just 5 ridiculous statements you've made. There are more....many, many more.

Don't bring me into this crap. This is you and D4H's argument, not mine. All I did was give my opinion on who's better between Barnett and Garrett.

:lolabove: talk about chickening out.

If you won't make any declarative points then STFU trying to judge me for my declarative points.

All you're doing right here is waffling to cover your ass. Have the guts to stand by your opinion rather than trying to waffle so someone can't bring up at a later point a post you made that turned out wrong.

I have the courage of my convictions. Sure I get some things wrong. But I at least have the courage to say what I BELIEVE. Other than for one post I made in jest (which you seem obsessed with) I've always posted what I believe. All you do is weasel around here trying to carry yourself as some holier than thou figure.

Stop being a baby and take a stand.

Will Garrett be a bust or not in the NFL?

And you were right....it's easily Barnett at the collegiate level. You oftentimes can't tell how a guy's game translates at the next level. But skill, effort and tenacity typically play well no matter the level of competition, and Barnett has those three 3 things over Garrett in spades.

The thread title sounds like you are praising Dobbs like religious praise. I'm a Christian , Merry Christmas, but praise seems displaced in the title reference imo.
