How do you figure he "wasted" money on the Browns? Just because they stink doesn't mean the value of the team isn't increasing. I'm pretty sure he could sell the team for a tidy profit if he wanted to.
Spending money on UT isn't making him any money. A lot of posters on here act like our big boosters live to spend their money on coaching buyouts.
The money donated to the university from a booster is a "donation". It is not an investment on which they will receive $$'s in return.
Some of you seem to think many boosters have millions and millions of dollars just laying around to donate - most are in the business of making money.
So what's the inside scoop?
Do we have the money for a buyout and then pay top $ for a HC and staff?
I'm no insider but:
We have the money, the timing is off. To fire Butch now after leading us to a bowl three years running would be a mistake without having a coach in mind.
Is anybody satisfied with our season wrapping up in Nashville playing Nebraska in the MCB? Nope.
To fire the coach that brought us back from the Dooley effect is a bad PR move. But who cares about PR? Not me, but I'm not considered in the process of hiring our next coach. Potential coaches do care and could balk on the opportunity to coach here due to the lack of job security(other than another $10 mil buyout).
Timing is everything, Butch being HC in 2017 will be giving him a fair shot at getting us back to where we want to be. The loss to SC and then to Vandy is enough to get dropped off on 440 looking for a ride, but then the only person that would consider coaching the Vols would already bleed orange(I still feel we need to get some VFLers leading the program again).
Not everybody has the same passion for the Vols as the folks on Volnation, so to hire some chump that is looking for a payday or just an opportunity to pad their stats to move on to their dream job would be a mistake.
Beat Mehbraska!
Don't kid yourself there are a lot of businesses that benefit financially from the Vols doing well.
So one would think boosters want the University to get it right.......at some point! The money donated to the university from a booster is a "donation". It is not an investment on which they will receive $$'s in return.

Let him bring in another class this year, see how things go next year. If he has another 8-4 season or worse then its time to go look for a new coach. By February we will know if next year will be his last, pay attention to the coaches that leave and the coaches that are brought in.
That is not what I said. The $$'s is considered a donation for tax purposes. I have no doubt that some boosters own businesses that profit by having 100k fans attending games on Saturday - but they would get that even if they did not donate.
looking at it as a business CBJ has been a bonanza for the University. He's solid for more years. I've seen no discussion of struggling ticket sales because it's booming. Look at the reality and not wins. Your spinning the record of W's vs L's and that's secondary to money flow.Let him bring in another class this year, see how things go next year. Atlanta Vol made some interesting comments, said that we've got a coaching search "committee" in place, in which CPF is a very active participant. Also said he believes Butch is gone in 2 years.
The unfortunate inference there is that Butch is here for 2 more years.
I'm not convinced we will really know how 2017 will go until 2017 is played on the field. Many thought Shoop was a slam dunk and the defense would lift us to glory in 2016 - we all know how that turned out.
Truth is one does not know how well the coaches and team are going to jell together until the season happens. And one doesn't know how the intangibles like injuries and such are going to play out until the season begins.
Any one who is predicting doom and gloom is guessing just like anyone who is predicting exceptional success is guessing. Most are basing their prediction on what they want to happen.
I am a fan - I am always going to want the team to win and win big and will support whomever is coaching or playing for the team as long as they are coaching and playing for the team.
as in their pursuits in business? Seems so. all are very rich..
That's correct and that's a Team with more coaching changes than hiTllary changes lies.
alaBubba could probably beat the browns, LOL!
He's also helping fund his sons political career which isn't cheap.
Just because he wasted over $1 Billion on a NFL team is even more reason he won't want to throw more HUGE $$$ at our footVol Team.
If our big boosters wanted to throw that kind of HUGE $$$ around we would never have hired buTch and we'd have a HC earning $6 Million or more per year right now.
Please attempt to Think and engage brain before posting my friend.
This isn't la la land, this is reality.
VFL...GBO!!!
