Vols trending Down (247 article)

He's not even inconsistently winning a divison.

I think it's an over reaction to conclude it won't happen. Every year we have went foward. We did this year until SC and Vanderbilt. I dont think any amount of dialogue will do any good. I digress.

What will or could happen is irrelevant to the point he made.

-The article very much lines up with happened on the field this season.
-There are legit problems, both on and off the field.
-There are people that are very upset, admin, boosters, and fans alike.
-I seriously don't understand why so many people are willing to go to bat for Jones like this?
-VolNation needs someone (or maybe three) to unite them and it starts with Blackburn.

How can anything he said in the article be verified? I only saw one player who was man enough to give his name. The others cowardly did not. I, not anymore, don't assume stories like this are the absolute truth. But with stories like this we just have to take Haney's word that it's true lol.

Why do you want to "verify" the quotes?

They're either true or they are not. His reputation, integrity and career are on the line if they are not. What evidence or experience do you have that he would fabricate a story?

In light of the fact that people on the forum who have a reputation of credibility have supported the premise, how do you simply dismiss it without cause?

Funny how the ONLY SOURCE named was Hood. I don't trust "unnamed" sources in sports or politics. If you want to say something then be man enough to give your name. Otherwise keep your mouth shut.

It won't because the same folks who would fire him would be okay if Freeze, who went from 2nd to 7th and also lost to Vandy and tanked this year, were the coach.

I wouldn't. But wait; Freeze improved every year over his first four, so that means he's awesome, right?

So much goes with learning a new job whether a major step up or semi lateral, but we are UT, and should by rights never have married beneath us even if that meant we never took a risk on a Dickey or a Fulmer. We absolutely know we could have paid more for sure winners who would have put us in the CFP by now - just like the other UT.

Tell me, other than rumors on this board - what "sure winner" coach after Fulmer was fired said "pay me X and I'll be your coach"? There was not one.

Derek Barnett said himself injuries were not the reason they lost to Vandy. I'll take his word for it. The talent level even with injuries still outmatched USC Jr and Vandy. Injuries were not the reason UT scored 31 in the first half against Vandy and 3 in the second, all while making Vandy's ~108 ranked offense look like an NFL team playing against a high school team.

Great. Now Derek Barnett is a negavol

Truth hurts. Many of us have made these same points over and over and over. Now that people inside the program have acknowledged them publicly, CBJ can either figure out how to win or he can leave. Either suits me just fine.

The champions of life thing was blown way out of proportion.... really out there..... a long way. A bunch of twats in the media took it and ran with it and the overemotionals got all butt hurt.

That may be the case, but breaking that out the weekend they were eliminated from the SEC title game was silly at best. I'm not sure if it was poor timing or a bad plan.

5th, 5th, 3rd (Lost 4 of the last 6 after rising to number 3 in the polls only to finish at 19), 2nd (bolted again to number 3 before losing to Florida, Memphis and Arkansas), and 7th this year.

His regular season record for year 3 and 4 was the same - both 9-3. Thus he appears to have a 9 win ceiling which would not cut it here according to some on this board. The difference was the bowl game - the 4th year bowl was against an lower ranked team so he got the 10th win in that.

Ole Miss seems content but then it is Ole Miss.

Freeze is a good coach. He just cheats & quotes the Bible afterwards. But he's a great offensive mind.

Bad thing about Vol fans is they think every kid dressed in orange can play in the SEC. They can't. CBJ took over a program where about 25% of the roster could play in the league. It's up to about 70% now but a long way off from Bama.

Yeah he ****ed this season up. No question. This is his mulligan. Let's move forward with 2017.

I've read the Haney article twice now, and there are several things that come to mind. Most of the things from the article have been discussed here on VN. Not a lot of surprises there. Compiling them into an indictment of CBJ is a bit much at this point. The article was a clear hatchet job on CBJ, feeding those still reeling from the Vandy loss. Haney wrote the article in such a way to feed our frustrations. Not sure why he felt the need to do that, nor what agenda he has. This raises my suspicions about 247. Also I was intrigued by the timing of the article. Coming just a day after the Smith commitment certainly raises red flags. Almost everyone rates Smith as the #1 prospect in the 2017 class except 247 who has him at #4. Also they have him as the #3 OT. Did Haney think he could influence Smith to change his mind and go elsewhere??? Or did he just want to taint Smith's decision as bad.

There's just too much surrounding this article that doesn't pass the test of objective journalism. Very suspicious.

4 years, no results. Looks like he will get an undeserved 5th year...want to lay odds on another season of no results?
Funny, his contract says 4 more years. He's in good shape. How was attendance this year? Right...it was great. :lolabove:

I've read it twice as well and wonder about the suspicious nature of the article. I am not saying that CBJ is perfect; but he is our coach and I'm a VFL! Go Vols!!

No, we're just passionate fans that expect more from this staff, team and program. We deserve better, even you Mr. Self Righteous! Why do you think we are all crying?? Did you not watch this season unfold then read this article. Do something productive and grow a pair dude.

You sir sound like a selfish, self centered little brat! "Look what they did to my season" boohoo you went into this season with high expectations because you saw what CBJ had done for the program the last 3 years. Or did you go into it saying "he'll blow it in the playoffs, he will" (Major League)
