Vols trending Down (247 article)

There's a lot of truth in that article.

I'm not going to elaborate further, but Travis tried vry hard to find people with a more favorable review of the current goings on to balance the story and could not. He also asked for comment from Butch and Hart two weeks ago, asked again after giving UT some of the quotes for the story, was told he would receive quotes or an interview with both Butch and Hart, and then UT never delivered on that.

If you want to blame someone for it being one-sided, then it lies at the feet of Ryan Robinson in media relations for dropping the ball on getting a response.

good context here, thanks

The issue with player leadership is interesting. It is one of CBJs hallmarks to have a player led team. He had been pushing for that since he got here. But as you grow leaders there are bound to be some problems, so it is logical that you may have some growing pains getting that part right. That, coupled with loose accountability in the weight room and a splintered staff on the defensive side explains a lot that went wrong this year. Very bad timing given the level of expectations on the team for this season.

Inside the failing of Tennessee Volunteers football under Butch Jones

Pretty reputable guy in Travis Haney talking up the "truths." Not good publicity to a national audience.

Definitely a great article but unfortunately it had to be written and is true. He is in way over his head but he just needs to surround himself with some new assistants he can trust and let then do their job. I love that we keep hearing about coaching changes and a real chance for Butch to show he can set his stubbornness aside, think outside of his comfort zone and hire some real SEC assistant coach's. He will then see his job gets easier but has to stop interfering and let his guys coach. But until he does I will be cautiously optimistic. 8-4 or less next year and I think our New AD( Blackburn hopefully) will be having to make his first big hire as AD.

Seems like CBJ needs to find these unnamed sources and fire them first.

I am not saying anything is untrue, but media does seem to have agenda in Knoxville.

I am sure CBJ has not helped his own situation with the way he deals with the media.

Yeah. It doesn't take too much effort to piece this together. Its not like some of this stuff hasn't been spoken on already.

So the problem was expectations?

no, not necessarily. expectations are different than hype.

i think the hype was over blown all off season, and posted about it regularly, and was basically told "to enjoy the ride".

hype has nothing to do with realistic expectations.

you finish 9-3 and go to the Sugar Bowl, a lot can be forgiven.

you finish 8-4 losing to Vandy and USCe, not only did you miss on the expectation part, the hype turns on you.

the good news....there'll be no hype this off season...only expectations. in fact, i expect this off season, UT will be written off in many circles, and that actually should play in to CBJ's hands, with his bunker mentality when it comes to media and fans.

Some of you should take off until August. Never seen such crybaby group of fans that enjoy coaching changes every other year. Go out and do something productive.

Yikes. Now I feel even worse about it. I think we desperately need the new AD in place before this thing becomes totally unglued.

Why release it now? Sounds like who ever is behind this wants to impact recruiting to ensure next season is a failure.

Why not give the time for the Coach and the incoming AD to evaluate things rather than blasting the entire program right in the middle of prime recruiting time?

The media and part of the support / fan base surrounding UT do more harm to the program than any coach has ever done.

This all truly makes me want to hide the fact that I am a fan for fear of being classified as one of the whiny idiots.

Having learned the fickle nature of the UT football program as a whole, Jones would do himself a favor if he turned in a respectable season next year then headed for a more stable program to further his career. Hate to see it happen but I suspect it is his best option. Tennessee will enjoy the carousel for a very long time.

No, we're just passionate fans that expect more from this staff, team and program. We deserve better, even you Mr. Self Righteous! Why do you think we are all crying?? Did you not watch this season unfold then read this article. Do something productive and grow a pair dude.

Insider source sounds a lot like a disgruntled assistant who sees the writing on the wall as to their employment status next year and wants to burn the house down on the way out. A number of assistants could fit this description

Where did I ever say that? This had nothing to do with Butch agreeing with anything

A site covering UT sports should have more class than to publish a hit piece the day after their biggest commit. Of course positives must be knocked back down by our lovely writers

lol

They do have an agenda. They don't want the football team to ever be successful because if it was - they would have absolutely nothing to write or complain about.

Turmoil sells papers and clicks - consistency and good things do not.

It's not the job of the media to ignore problems and what people inside the program are consistently saying because they worry about the timing of a story coming out. What time would be a good time for this story to come out? The timing doesn't change what's going on inside the program.

OK,yes. Is this in regards to the weight room? I think he probably expected the new guy to keep the same standard of accountability as the old boss, but with different S&C goals. Since he had the previous guy for 10 years I imagine he didn't think he had to closely supervise his replacement. Looks like that was a mistake.
