Would be Florida's luck.

McElwain ain't going anywhere though. Just time for an extension and a raise since somebody had to win the east.

Yep. Butch would have played the exact same fiddle if we were to have won the East. My guess is his new salary will be $4.75-5mil.

From Hubbs last night:

This is after they said Butch would have interest in Houston, but that the Vandy loss likely ruled him out for that job.

When asked if Butch genuinely might want to leave:

JAV at 247 (top insider there, pretty well established as having connections) also said that Butch would be interested in moving on, but the loss to Vandy sealed his fate with many of the open jobs (i.e., Houston). Also said that he wouldn't want to take a step down to a job like Purdue.

VQ lending any credence whatsoever to the "Butch is unhappy and wants to leave" rumors speaks volumes, IMO, because it's not like he's in a position to use that to get a raise. It's also not a positive thing to report for the program or for Butch in any way at this point.

I believe that Butch genuinely wants out. Others may feel different. But to me the evidence certainly points in that direction.

Jones should have taken the Michigan job a couple of years ago when he had the chance.

CBJ is going to have media and PR issues anywhere he goes. The pile-on isn't local-- it's national. It hurts his marketability, and it isn't great for UT, either. Nobody wants to have the face of their program be the subject of ridicule.

I think it'll be interesting to see how the team responds in a bowl game. Butch seems to always have the team ready coming off a bye or an extended period off.

Well except for this year vs Appy State and after the bye at South Carolina. This whole year is so weird...

We didn't turn the ball over last year. This year we were AWFUL at it. We were not penalized much last year. This year we were pretty bad. Last year we had great 3rd down defense. This year's sucked. We didn't have anyone quit last year. This year we had 2 mid season leave.

So many uncharacteristic mistakes and problems from a Butch Jones coached team... I don't get it

I think this is one of the reasons why Hubbs said that the $10mil buyout is as big of a concern as we fans think it is right now.

People have to keep in mind that a school would need to be willing to pay UT $4m to hire Butch away.

Not a lot of schools are going to fall into that category.

It is only slightly more likely than UT being willing to pay him $10m to fire him which is at 0% chance of happening.

Or a 3rd option is for the school to agree to let Butch out of his contract without a buyout. Win/win for both parties.

edit* obviously I'm late mentioning this thought as it's been said a couple of times already. I think I need to quit my job so I can keep up with all of the threads and not get a page behind.

If we go to the Music City Bowl, are club seats worth the extra money? I've only been to Nissan Stadium twice and one time I was in 300s and the other time 100s. I was going to be in Nashville on New Years Eve anyways.

I've sat in all 3 levels there and that's my favorite. Nicer concourse is worth the price IMO.

We'll know, win or lose, whether CBJ has lost the team after the bowl game. It's not going to be a matter of whether we win or lose, but how the team looks doing it. That will be the tell all.

Every time I've convinced myself Butch is doing a good job, I come back to exactly what you just said. Something was "off" with this team from Game 1.

I think I've been reading VN too much. I had my wisdom teeth removed this morning and as I was coming to I kept trying to ask the nurse if she thought UT was going to hire Kiffin back.

I'm sure it could be negotiated, but CBJ has nowhere to go and we have no Chancellor, no AD and no legacy hire like Harbaugh, Herman or Orgeron waiting for our offer. I just don't see Joe DiP dirtying his hands with firing and hiring a HC this year. And I don't see the MCB as being therapeutic, but who knows-- maybe I'm wrong.

To me, the team looked like they were playing hard against Vandy. They were just so outmatched and out of position on plays that the defense was horrendous. Not sure how much you can take away from that.

Gruden, Cooter, Tee Martin, sure there are a few others I'm missing. Point is our AD won't shovel out the money and are content with bargain hires.

Getting bad man. This is why you don't take shots at media without being Saban good. They are killing him right now. Barton Simmons new article about Butch busts is going to hurt really bad I think. That will be sent to all targets by opposing coaches. They prob don't write that article if you haven't been attacking their colleagues.

I personally don't take anything away from the Vandy game as far as the team is concerned. I wasn't even angry after the game. Just numb about it. The whole thing is on coaching. close games to teams we should have mopped the field with. Losses to teams we should have been better than. Horribly beaten by a team we should have at least given a game for a half. All coaching.

Recruiting - Butch is good at it. Could be great if the rest of his resume was up to par.

Player development - I thought he was good at it at first, but am thinking maybe I was wrong. I say this for a couple of reasons.

1) Guys like DB, JRM, CS and AK. Did they really develop or were they already that good? Look at their careers and I bet you'll find they were pretty close to that good to begin with. Beyond that....what/who? Malone...I bet he goes to the NFL...it will not have anything to do with his development at UT. Croom. People can say what they want. That man was talent wasted here. I hope he gets a chance to show something in a combine.

2) We talk about injuries. It's every year here and not just a few. It's a lot and seems to hit key people and positions the most. That is also player development. The S&C program is a big part of it. Properly conditioning your players does not end injuries, but it greatly reduces the chances. Not hitting in practice does not help so much in the injury department as it hurts in real game situations and makes players more prone to injury.

X's & O's- He's not good.

I'll go so far as to say, IMO, DeBord may be the reason we have done as well as we have offensively. Ask yourself this. If Butch is calling the plays in game, do you think we win more or less games? DeBord spends hours prior to games trying to figure out how to make this scheme work. That is on gameday....after having spent all week practicing it.

herman is costing 19+ million after buying out all of charlies clan and paying houston for herman. then after that hermans salary is expected to be in the 5-6 million range.

Cut and Lovie Smith might have been possibilities a few years back. Hard to see any of these guys being realistic prospects now-- for various reasons. But CBJ isn't going anywhere, so we're all just spitballing.
