Smh Butch not letting shoop run his defense.

Wtf is the point of hiring a defensive mind then ?

My goodness this is worse than I even imagined

Same thing that did happen. We lose.

It's about probability though. The probability of making the field goal at that point is greater than the probability of picking up a 4th and 3 IMO.

This is what was so surprising about the decision. It was off the card as it were. When asked about going for the win against A&M Jones said that he plays to keep playing. That the players have worked to hard to put everything on one play that would end it all. This is a statements about probabilities of continuing to be able to score. It was so un-Butch for him to make a call with long odds. Off the card as it were.

Is Butch legitimately looking to get out?

"I think his agent is looking at all his options as they do every year. Is this year a little different? I think so Coming off a disappointing finish as well as not knowing who his boss is going to be changes things a bit this offseason.

Now does anyone want him or take a real look at him. I'm not sure about that."

Gracious. With the way things are right now with fan perception I can't believe they wouldn't even let this info out

this cant be true that shoop is leaving because butch wont even let him run his d. if so then im sorry ive been defending him. he will never get another dc worth a ****. we are screwed.

Seriously butch please gtfo of the state of Tennessee. Keeping him around for another year will cripple this program again. No good coaches will come be apart of his staff.

If not hiring the assistants of Shoop's choice was about the money, it certainly kept Butch in a bind. Apparently Shoop accepted knowing the terms and Jones again was between a rock and a hard place needing to replace Janeck and having Shoop on the hook. Just thinking TPTB had more than just a little part in undermining what could have been.

I don't buy it

It's a very hard pill to swallow but from what we know of Butch and his offense,
Why would this be so far fetched?

If you go back and compare the bajakian years and the Debord years, the offense is the same, same concepts, same motions, same sets, same route combos...

Each sentence of that Hubbs statement contains troubling info.
1) butch and his agent consider their options every year? That's fine I guess, but to recruits and fans who you are trying to convince that this is your "destination" spot, that just sounds awful. How could they freely share that info?!!

2) second sentence makes butch sound desperate for a way out.

3) concluding statement makes it sound like we are stuck with used goods that no one else wants.

Don't like any of that.

Offense vs defense

I also have a hard time buying that all of the sudden TS knows Shoop is leaving "soon" and all of the sudden knows the reason is that Butch wouldn't let him run his defense.

Just doesn't pass the smell test.

Yes, we have become too fat, bloated, and arrogant on the success of the past 10 years. About time we got knocked down a peg or two.

Do you actually read all the beatchy comments constantly posted on VN by "fans"? No matter what , there is a multitude of complaints.

I am thankful for 8 wins so far. I hope for win #9 in the bowl game.

After the misery of the Fulmer firing fiasco, the atrocity that is lane kiffin, and the desolation left behind by dooley...I am thankful that Tennessee is not stuck in a wallow of continued losing seasons (think Charlie Strong) or in near death penalty status (if kiffin had stayed).

It could always be worse.
It could always be better.
It has potential to be great.
It has potential to disappoint.
It could thrive.
It could fail.

I refuse to be uber negative.

When I was in med school, Tennessee lost 6 in a row. Finished the year 5-6. It was awful. The very next season, Tennessee went 11-1 and won the Cotton Bowl. It was glorious! I was a diehard optimistic fan throughout those two seasons. I am still a diehard fan throughout the last 10 seasons. I will be a diehard fan even after they play Rocky Top at my funeral... :hi:

that jet sweep tho, bajakian loved running pig on the jet sweep 5+ times per game

How often did you watch us this year and say, that is a well coached team.

I didn't...but I am so thankful that the UGA game happened the way it did. My 11 year old daughter and I watched from beginning to end together. It was phenomenal. It definitely confirmed that she will be a VFL.

When uga scored their last TD, I told her that she didn't need to watch the last few seconds. My wonderful daughter then said, "You don't quit on the Vols. You root for them to the very end!" :salute:

I think I will follow my sage daughter's advice. :hi:

It got annoying this year watching games and thinking, "we absolutely deserve to lose this game" time after time after time after time.

I hate that. It's sad

That is sad.

I watched every game this year thinking that Tennessee was never out of it (except bama). First year in so, so long that I didn't feel like a loss was the most likely conclusion to the game or season.

Coach Johnnie Majors ' Volunteer teams so often came back from behind or let other teams back in before winning or losing, they were definitely the cardiac Vols. This season has reminded me of those years. I enjoyed the ups and will endure the downs.

I'm happy that you were able to have that moment, and hopefully I'll be able to have my own as my kids grow.

However, absent things like that, a lot of people were disappointed this year, and I don't think there is any reason to apologize or feel guilty for that despite how bad the last 10 years have been. People put a lot of themselves- in varying ways- into following Tennessee football. Regardless of those who throw "spoiled" or "ungrateful" around, people are restless, and it's completely justified.

When teams lose you here these things:

1) the coach wants out
2) the coaches wife isn't happy
3) the leadership was bad
4) the coaches are going to jump ship
5) the players don't believe in the staff
6) the head coach is a control freak

We havnt heard all of those yet. They are all coming true or not.

I agree, Now with that being said. TS could be refering to personnel. I could see Butch controlling the personnel, which would also piss me off. Would also explain why we never got Tyler Byrd at CB, I bet Shoop wanted him there.

The biggest reason I am disappointed with this season is I fully believe last year's squad would whip this year's.

And that is unacceptable.

I damn sure hope Butch didn't just stay clear of the defensive meeting rooms this season. Surely to goodness we aren't suggesting he shouldn't have been involved
