People need to keep in mind that coaching records in these other crap conferences can be deceiving. Winning at Colorado or western Michigan doesn't mean you can do it in the SEC.
These "proven winners" a lot of times are just winning in crap conferences. It can translate but doesn't always.
Just like Bob Shoop coming here with his stats. Didn't translate. Sure things are seldom sure.
The majority of big time college coaches were head coaches in 'crap conferences' at one point. There's virtually no coach anywhere who is a sure thing. The question isn't whether you're sure they'll be successful. The question is whether you have more confidence in them being successful than Butch.
Right. My point is just that unless you prove it in the SEC then it's not really proven. This is the best conference. Year in and year out. It doesn't mean that other conferences don't have good teams players and coaches.
Winning in other conferences doesn't mean you can do it here. Obviously you want to start a search by focusing on winners. It's the "proven" part that I think is unrealistic.
Chip Kelly is a proven guy though not ever in the SEC but I doubt UT would consider a guy like him with his baggage. After the Pearl and Tyndall mess we aren't likely to overlook NCAA issues. He also can not be trusted. We saw what having a snake as a head coach got us when kiffin bolted right before signing day.
Remember the name Troy Calhoun for Purdue. Unless Butch is willing to take a pretty steep paycut or Purdue is ready to double its head coaching salary, I don't see that one happening.
Hazell was making $2.2 million before he was fired and Purdue didn't fire him last year because they would have owed him around $6 million and that was too much for them.
Again, if Butch is ready to take a paycut, or they are ready to make a much, much bigger investment in their football program (which it looks like they can't even afford that) then that's not happening.
No. Why?
Am I missing some reason why UT can't ban goons who act as a tech guy for a former football player radio host?
