Its funny people keep saying this. Postion coaches go where the money is. Great position coaches move every year to head coaches that are on the hot seat. Les Miles was on a very hot seat going into this year and still got one of the best D Cord. out there.

More from Hubbs on Kippy at the QB club...

I was there as well and you painted a good picture. There was silence after Brown said that. I caught up with Kippy afterwards (big fan of his, he was nice to me when I was a young kid covering the Vols). Kippy made it clear to me that he was not advocating any changes or anything. Was just noting that Lane doesn't hate Tennessee and that has Lane stayed here he thinks he would have found success and was a good fit then and would still be one now.

Kippy also made it clear in his talk that he's about running the football and believes the key to winning is the Seahawks way, investing on defense for your best players. Win on special teams and don't turn the ball over. Noted that in the Super Bowl win against Denver his receivers were all undrafted free agents because the Seahawks had built the franchise on defense.

We had the best QB in the SEC this year and it meant nothing.

Unless we improve dramatically across the offensive line and stay healthy along defensive line we won't win anything even if JG is the second coming of Cam Newton.

They worked together. Not sure what you mean by tight. Blackburn knows Butch's personality and knows his program. Blackburn I can say for sure challenged Jones many times his first year in Knoxville before Blackburn left for Chattanooga.

If Blackburn got the job and I don't know if he can get it, but if he did then his loyalty would be to Tennessee, not Jones.

We will see. It's the favorite of a good number, but not of everyone. Some think they need a "bigger name".

I know I'm biased because I've known Blackburn a long time. But I have seen his work through the years and he's been successful. Is he perfect? No, but I think he would do a good job and would be fit here.

Tennessee has done well with Tennessee people through the years, Summitt, Fulmer, Majors, Woodruff.

I think Blackburn would have been a poor choice when Hart was hired. He wasn't ready and Tennessee needed someone to come in and be harsh to fix things. I think now the timing would be good for Blackburn.

I also know there are some who want a bigger name so we will see.

I would not say that he is. But Hart is not doing the day to day stuff with Butch like Blackburn did when he was here.

Now if Blackburn is the AD then he's not going to be in the same role with Butch as he was previously.

My point was that I don't think fans should think a Blackburn hire would mean Butch would be happy and comfortable.

More on Kiffin...

Everyone is missing the point on Kiffin. There's a reason his name hasn't shown up for jobs. There's a reason Fresno State wouldn't interview him for the HC job there.

No one questions his ability to coach and playcall, but I think there remains concerns about his ability to manage himself and that's why he's not the hottest assistant coach in the country on everyone's list.

He might get a chance as an HC somewhere, but I don't see Power 5 schools knocking on his door right now.

Basilio said today that Kiffin is leaving Bama because he is wearing out his welcome there and he's basically a 50 year old frat boy. Lines up with Hubbs comments.

You can't put your program in that guy's hands.

VQ seems more vocal on the Butch Jones front here the past couple days. I think Butch is looking around. I don't think he's going anywhere but I think he's looking...with longing eyes
