We have scrub DEs playing tackle. That's not depth.
We have no linebackers.
We don't have corners who can cover receivers from Vandy.

LB position has talent but terrible development.

Talent isn't the issue on defense if your goal is to be adequate on that side of the ball next year. At this point an adequate D with a good QB joining what is coming back on O and this team is a 9-10 win team returning.

It all hinges on QB play and the defense regaining some confidence.

Rewatched some of the game today, and Jumper was out of position on so many plays! He had a horrible game.

He was guessing and had to choose sides of DTs being pushed 5-7 yards down field yet again. Didn't appear Shoop tried very many slants and stunts yet again to help the DTs.

He just needs to go. He's laid an egg here after all his over selling coach speak. If you are in sales you need a thick skin when your product isn't all that and the customer calls you out on it. The fan base is not in the mood for another wannabe and he clearly is one now that we have seen the culmination of 4 years work. Hope the Greater Fool Theory is in play. Doubt we get that lucky. Nothing ever seems easy with our Vols.

Yeah, how dare we want to win our division. **** this loser.

Yeah he is that guy that can't accept responsibility and blames everyone else. Pathetic I mean what school that is worth a crap doesn't expect to win its division consistently when your have more talent than the others

Update from Fort on coaches recruiting this week...

"Tennessee coaches are on the road and tomorrow several Tennessee coaches will be at the Mr. Footall Awards at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Cade Mays, Trey Smith, Ty Chandler and a few other big-time players will be in attendance. It's not technically a contact day since the coaches won't speak with the players.

Tennessee is scheduled to see Trey Smith midweek, with a visit from Butch Jones and several staff members likely to happen on Wednesday.

That's the big visit this week.

Cam Akers made it to Ohio State this weekend from talking to a couple of different people. What is interesting is that we're hearing Akers may not decide early and may wait to sign in February.

That means the Vols won't have to try and squeeze in an official visit in the next few days if he does that. His team will play in a state championship game on Friday so we will see what happens there.

Elsewhere, Tommy Thigpen will be in Alabama tomorrow checking in on Tennessee commitment Will Ignont. He will also see defensive end LaBryan Ray who has set his official visit for Jan. 13-15.

Also in Alabama, Bubba Thompson is scheduled to meet with Mike DeBord on Tuesday.

Both Cheyenne Labruzza and Terrell Bailey are expecting Tennessee coaches to visit them on Wednesday. We expect Robert Gillespie to be in Louisiana during that time to not only visit Tennessee's commitments, but also check in on Travis Etienne as well.

Virginia Beach-area commitments Eric Crosby and the Gaddy brothers are all expecting visits from Tennessee coaches early this week, likely Tuesday. We expect coach Azzanni and Stripling to be in the area. We wouldn't be shocked if the coaches visited defensive lineman Ryan Thaxton, who is scheduled to take an official visit to Tennessee next month.

Tennessee coaches will be in the Sunshine State later in the week. Darrian Felix is expecting coach Gillespie on Thursday. On Wednesday, James Brown is expecting Larry Scott and Jacquez Jones is expecting Zach Azzanni midweek as well.

Jones is continuing to receive attention from several other programs and could be one to watch as an official visitor at other programs come January.

Mahoney will be in West Virginia on Thursday to see Riley Locklear.

Defensive linemen Matthew Butler and Deandre Johnson both have games on Friday night in the playoffs and both are expecting some Tennessee coaches at their game.

We will continue to update coaches visits throughout the week as we find out more destinations. We expect the next two weeks before the dead period to provide some new names at new positions.

I don't necessarily think that means new official visitors this month, but likely more in January."

Remember the name Troy Calhoun for Purdue. Unless Butch is willing to take a pretty steep paycut or Purdue is ready to double its head coaching salary, I don't see that one happening.

Hazell was making $2.2 million before he was fired and Purdue didn't fire him last year because they would have owed him around $6 million and that was too much for them.

Again, if Butch is ready to take a paycut, or they are ready to make a much, much bigger investment in their football program (which it looks like they can't even afford that) then that's not happening.

The very fact that Fort and Hubbs are talking about CBJ and "possibilities" of other schools is VERY interesting. :eek:hmy:

Head coach: Mullen
Defensive coordinator: Strong
Offensive coordinator: Tony Franklin

All realistic options if Butch left on his own and we ponied up the cash.

I think that's about as "monster" of a coaching staff as we could afford/feasibly get right now. Would win a boatload of SEC games. Mullen and Strong worked together at Florida and won national championships there.

Mullen and Franklin would turn JG into a beast.

You are a great poster so I am not attacking you here but how do you know this?

For the record I think he was looking to get out since last summer when he was furious about the lawsuit but I don't know that to be true

random run-in so won't be a consistent info thing. Basically Butch can't handle the heat and wants a school with less media scrutiny

As nice as it sounds, it's a pipe dream. Strong will find another coaching gig or a coordinating gig at a competing school. Not us.

The Jumperettes will be gunning for you.

I don't blame him at all. He's doing all he is capable and will be able to brag about his time as a Vol. But, he is absolutely clueless at what he is doing - and we are to believe he is the best they have? Not a chance. The other players know this even better than we do. Great for team morale.

I really have no idea why they play who they play at 6-8 positions. When you know individual players that are better on the roster that don't get a chance and guys that play a position foreign to their natural talent - it is really frustrating. Get just a few of those right and our guys would be in New Orleans on New Years even with a lot of injuries.

But really though...

2017
HC: Butch Jones
DC: Shoop
OC: Debord

Assistants: ???

Position coaches are the scapegoat. That's the reality imo
