lol. You don't know the timing so stop acting like it.

The media is butt hurt they didn't get out of the warm pressbox in time. That's on them not butch. The witch hunts for things that don't matter is ridiculous.

The talk should me more about the failures on the field. Screw the media.

100% agree. Media in Knoxville are complete and total babies.

There's plenty of ammo to use on Butch. Some of the media not getting down there in time isn't worthy of discussion. Nothing that happens in the presser matters anyway. Fans want their pound of flesh though. Media thinks they are owed something. Like they are doing us a favor by covering sports. As if someone else couldn't hold up a tape recorder and ask dumb a$$ questions.

Lmao funny thing is Butch every other game had waited about 15 minutes to allow the media members to get down from the box. This time he doesn't? Sometimes it's the appearance of how you do things, if every other time you were Mr. Patience, then in a bad loss you have to be the same . And that appeared to be a "Let's get out of dodge" move.

And by checking Twitter the game was over 10:18 and the media blasting butch for hurrying up the presser started at 10:48

Does anyone know when the presser actually started?

10minutes after the game is over is when it is supposed to happen. If it started sooner than that then the media has a beef.

I don't know why everyone is so against Les Miles.

(We're not going to land him unless he goes to a less prestigious program like Purdue for a year or two anyway.)

He's a proven winner, he can recruit, he can beat Florida on a regular basis, and maybe without having to face the West gauntlet, he/we could have better luck against Bama and our rotating West foe. He'll have the personality we're all desperate for from Butch, and although we may have to put up with clock management issues, we'd have the chance to be a top-15 team year-in, year-out.

Change my mind?

Quick edit: Think about all the premier OOC games he won-- TCU, Wisconsin, Oregon, WVU

These are just some thoughts. Not asserting them as necessarily true. Just curious if anyone else has any input on these points.

1. This is not your Grandfather's Vandy. Franklin recruits, middle Tennessee has become a recruiting hot bad. Mason is a solid coach with wins over UGA, Ole Miss and the Vols this year. The new landscape of the SEC after Bama remains unsettled.

2. Butch's approach has been a two-edged sword. He recruited early on with the suggestion that playing time was likely. In order build integrity with the players he has honored this approach to a fault. Some see this as an inability to manage prima donnas.

3. "A hand once lain to the task can not be withdrawn with impunity." (This doesn't mean anything. Zealous opinions certainly exhibit concern for the players. I wish the best for them no matter who is called out bring them in and to coach them up.)

1. Vandy has reverted back in a lot of ways. Franklin's recruiting was nothing special, and his winning was largely done with Bobby Johnson recruits. Most of his others have cycled/incarcerated out of the program. And I'm not impressed by grouping us in with Ole Miss and UGA among Vandys conquests this year. Especially with what was on the line at the time of the respective games.

2. Hard to reconcile integrity with respect to Jones in regard to his recruiting philosophy. Not that I think it isn't a viable strategy, but I'm not swayed by arguments defending him by citing honoring recruiting promises.

3. Ok.

Couple things I've thought about...

Buyout to fire Butch is $2.5 million.....per season left on his deal which runs thru 2020. That's $10 million. In other words, he ain't getting fired.

Shoop has been awful. I'm sorry but even with the injuries his unit looks lost. Injuries no doubt have made it very difficult to manage but shoop is in over his head I believe. His "stats" didn't translate to big boy football just as I feared.

If you're convinced Butch is gonna coach himself into getting fired in the next year or possibly two then the best you can hope for is that someone wants to hire him away and UT agrees to waive or reduce the buyout in order to part ways.

Right now the most important thing is to hire an AD....yesterday!!! It can not happen soon enough.

What I don't get are the following things:

We are blitz happy with a porous secondary.

We don't tackle well at all. This does not take being super talented to do.

Do not play with sound technique or discipline on defense at all.

And we do not do the basics like "reading your eyes and trusting it".

Why do we not do this at all?

Why are our best athletes not on defense? Everyone knows to put your best athletes on defense so you can shut down a team. We snatch them to the offensive side. Jennings I'm fine with but Byrd plays a position that isn't featured at all. Let the man play defense like he actually wants to do. Smh

How many schools just simply go and hire "real elite coaches"? Let's start with everyone's favorite trio...Saban,Meyer and Harbaugh. Each one of their respective hires was the result of failure. Saban was actually a last minute recovery from Rich Rodriguez reneging to stay at West Virginia. Saban's availability was the result of his poor choice of Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. Pick the right franchise QB and Saban may still be in the NFL and which Mike Price,Mike Dubose or Mike Shula upgrade would've been "elite"? Meyer's availability for Ohio State was the result of HIS failure to recruit for the eventuality of Tim Tebow's graduation. He had a bunch of 5 stars that didn't fit and wasn't willing to dent his "elite" status for the necessary reconfiguration...so his heart "went to shizz" and he bailed right as Jim Tressell lost control of the machine in Columbus. Political correct pause for one year with ESPN and "suddenly" Ohio State simply was willing "to pay for an elite coach". Tailor made (actually manufactured) situation right there, so question...which "elite coach" would Ohio State have snapped up if the two aforementioned failures hadn't occurred? I'll finish with Harbaugh and Michigan. Willing to "pay elite coaches" as they were, why hadn't they? Rodriguez was on the fast track for that status but not there yet...Michigan jumped the gun because? Lloyd Carr FAILED against Appy State and the fans VNed him...creating an instant demand. That elite coach eluded them until the brain trust of the 49ers bristled at the caustic manner of their highly successful coach and made him available (to his alma mater or he'd have snapped up another NFL gig, easily).

They're called "elite coaches" because they're the select best. They're also not generally available to JUST HIRE. Every one of them started out as struggling ole regular coaches and DEVELOPED elite status. The usual route to land one is to hire them when they ain't and let them get that badge. Texas just did that with Herman. Sorry for the tldr, but I couldn't trash your simple point with fewer words Cat. :)

PAY. THEM. Money talks.

I'd be ok with JJ on offense if they actually would use him. 3-4 targets per game is a damn joke. Dude catches everything. If we are going to waste his skills on offense put him on D and let him kill fools every down.

You just know they are going to drag their feet on the AD hire. It's the Tennessee way. They will also not hire Blackburn in favor of someone much less qualified due to petty "politics" and hurt feelings over things that happened a decade ago.

After a day getting over the embarrassment of last night, CBJ needs another chance. He needs to overhaul his staff, regroup, recruit strong and learn from his BS mistakes this year.
Canning him now would set us back imo. We all know UT won't shell out the $$ for a Saban type coach. If we see the same collapse next year as we did this, then it's time to move on.
I'm off the Butch train, and this season was a huge disappointment, but I say give him another year, and then reevaluate. Defensive staff needs replaced, apart from Dline coach tho like next week!!

All of this, all day. It is what a lot of us have been saying all season. This team is not being coached properly on the defensive side of the ball, not maximizing our athlete's potential and developing players, and watching 2nd and 3rd year players either regress or simply perform at the same level they came in as freshman.
I have never seen so many bad angles, missed assignments, poor tackling, and DBs burned play after play than this season.

Can't stand that we can't find someone with UT ties to lead us.

Mullen is my second choice. I think he has done wonders at MSU. With our facilities and resources, he could be great.

I know you say Kelly is your first choice but the trouble he left at Oregon, I want no part of. Mullin is my number 1. If he had a great recruiter with the way he coaches up an offense, it could be special.
