Stop believing all you hear from the media. It's the same bunch that blew up the champion of life quotes completely out of context.

It isn't the coaches job to wait on the damn media after games. They need to be where they are supposed to be instead of eating hot dogs for free. They disgust me with how they are searching for click bait with butch lately. It's why I don't give a damn what happens in his pressers.

THe players always follow the head coach anyways.

You sound totally unbiased.

Dooley had defenders to the bitter end despite being one of the worst coaches in SEC history.

Jones isn't terrible. Beat Florida. Has a win streak vs Georgia going. Three bowls in a row.

And yet...no defenders.

Just goes to show how unlikeable he is.

I actually don't think it's the likability difference between the two as to why people have turned on Butch much more quickly.

It's that we've seen the movie before (just recently) and we know how it ends, regardless of anyone's personal opinion of Butch. With the loss yesterday he lost control of the narrative. The recruiting is about to tank, many on the team likely will mail it in for the bowl game, and he's going to shoot to the top of every hot seat list in the country. If he thought the weeks after the USCe were miserable with the press scrutiny he ain't seen nothing yet. He has to win the sec to have any hope of turning around the doubters. No chance with what we lose this offseason.

I like him and didn't get caught up in his press conference sounds bites. But there's no doubt his career here is finished. Only a matter of whether he leaves this offseason or is fired in the next one.

This team is just too talented to be 8-4 with losses to Vandy, SC and aTm. I just keep thinking that. We should be celebrating Barnett today. Instead we're talking about a coach that can't win with some of the best talent to play at Tn in over a decade. Barnett is an all time great. Kamara got 6 touches a game behind a guy who didn't want to be here. These are serious issues

How many schools just simply go and hire "real elite coaches"? Let's start with everyone's favorite trio...Saban,Meyer and Harbaugh. Each one of their respective hires was the result of failure. Saban was actually a last minute recovery from Rich Rodriguez reneging to stay at West Virginia. Saban's availability was the result of his poor choice of Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. Pick the right franchise QB and Saban may still be in the NFL and which Mike Price,Mike Dubose or Mike Shula upgrade would've been "elite"? Meyer's availability for Ohio State was the result of HIS failure to recruit for the eventuality of Tim Tebow's graduation. He had a bunch of 5 stars that didn't fit and wasn't willing to dent his "elite" status for the necessary reconfiguration...so his heart "went to shizz" and he bailed right as Jim Tressell lost control of the machine in Columbus. Political correct pause for one year with ESPN and "suddenly" Ohio State simply was willing "to pay for an elite coach". Tailor made (actually manufactured) situation right there, so question...which "elite coach" would Ohio State have snapped up if the two aforementioned failures hadn't occurred? I'll finish with Harbaugh and Michigan. Willing to "pay elite coaches" as they were, why hadn't they? Rodriguez was on the fast track for that status but not there yet...Michigan jumped the gun because? Lloyd Carr FAILED against Appy State and the fans VNed him...creating an instant demand. That elite coach eluded them until the brain trust of the 49ers bristled at the caustic manner of their highly successful coach and made him available (to his alma mater or he'd have snapped up another NFL gig, easily).

They're called "elite coaches" because they're the select best. They're also not generally available to JUST HIRE. Every one of them started out as struggling ole regular coaches and DEVELOPED elite status. The usual route to land one is to hire them when they ain't and let them get that badge. Texas just did that with Herman. Sorry for the tldr, but I couldn't trash your simple point with fewer words Cat. :)

Ohio State typically brings in winners. Tressel wasn't an unknown commodity at the time of his hire. We decided to go cheap with Kiffin and others afterwards. Now it's time to spend some of that SEC NETWORK money.

Umm..We are 10th or 11th all time in wins. We've been pretty good for a looooong time. The 80s were up and down, but we were relevant several of those years.

11th in winning percentage too. At about 68%. That's an 8 win season. Hoping for consistent 10 win season vs expecting them is a different thing.

That said, this SHOULD. have been an outlier year. Pretty bummed.

Edit- this no Mathis. Weird autocorrect

Move Tyler Byrd to defense and maybe JJ if safeties don't step up. Move Evan Berry to offense and consider Todd Kelly Jr at LB unless he wants to take weight off.

Byrd would've gotten a pick or two last night. The pass Foreman couldn't jump high enough for would've been going up the sideline. Butch is DUMB to move a kid and not feature him. Just DUMB DUMB DUMB.....

Honest question:

Do you expect a head football coach to sit and wait in silence while the media decides to wonder into the press room and ask a question?

No, but I expect that Butch knows how the timing of the post game press conferences always work. The way he handled it was planned and cowardly. I don't really give two s**** whether the media gets their quotes, but a leader doesn't leave his team to explain his mess.

Yep, if Byrd is on offense then Josh Smith should have never seen the field unless Byrd was totally gassed.

Yeah I totally get moving Byrd if you think he's going to help and get touches...
he's rotting and he has enough talent to be a star anywhere in America.

I just keep saying to people imagine if Saban or urban Meyer had the skill players we had.

Jennings would be green/Julio Jones
Sorry to interrupt our self pity fest but Jauan Jennings is absolutely my favorite Vol. He is willing to fight for his team and he goes as hard as anyone.
The move he made on Vandy DBs early whewwww
He never goes down off 1st contact either.

We are still 10th or 11th even after the horrendous decade we have suffered through. Out of 100+ teams that is by definition an "elite" all time program.

When you are comparing elite coaches, Tressel was indeed unknown. He had won at Youngstown State. He had no head coaching experience at the D1A level, and he only had 6 years of any coaching experience at the D1A level. Compare that now to coaches who are getting hired with a minimum of years of D1A head coaching experience and many with championships.

Tressell dominated...at YOUNGSTOWN STATE. He was a qualified acceptable risk...but not "elite"...he attained that in Columbus.

Lmao funny thing is Butch every other game had waited about 15 minutes to allow the media members to get down from the box. This time he doesn't? Sometimes it's the appearance of how you do things, if every other time you were Mr. Patience, then in a bad loss you have to be the same . And that appeared to be a "Let's get out of dodge" move.

I don't know why everyone is so against Les Miles.

(We're not going to land him unless he goes to a less prestigious program like Purdue for a year or two anyway.)

He's a proven winner, he can recruit, he can beat Florida on a regular basis, and maybe without having to face the West gauntlet, he/we could have better luck against Bama and our rotating West foe. He'll have the personality we're all desperate for from Butch, and although we may have to put up with clock management issues, we'd have the chance to be a top-15 team year-in, year-out.

Change my mind?

Quick edit: Think about all the premier OOC games he won-- TCU, Wisconsin, Oregon, WVU

Obviously differently than the way Butch handled it on Saturday.

lol. You don't know the timing so stop acting like it.

The media is butt hurt they didn't get out of the warm pressbox in time. That's on them not butch. The witch hunts for things that don't matter is ridiculous.

The talk should me more about the failures on the field. Screw the media.

One of Kamara or Dobbs would be holding the heisman this year if they played for Saban or Meyer. Fact

These are just some thoughts. Not asserting them as necessarily true. Just curious if anyone else has any input on these points.

1. This is not your Grandfather's Vandy. Franklin recruits, middle Tennessee has become a recruiting hot bad. Mason is a solid coach with wins over UGA, Ole Miss and the Vols this year. The new landscape of the SEC after Bama remains unsettled.

2. Butch's approach has been a two-edged sword. He recruited early on with the suggestion that playing time was likely. In order build integrity with the players he has honored this approach to a fault. Some see this as an inability to manage prima donnas.

3. "A hand once lain to the task can not be withdrawn with impunity." (This doesn't mean anything. Zealous opinions certainly exhibit concern for the players. I wish the best for them no matter who is called out bring them in and to coach them up.)

If you choose to believe that those who were there are spreading blatant lies then that's your prerogative. Pretty obvious that your opinion is clouded by your hatred for the media though.
