Rushing the passer. You agreed that the secondary was bad, but should be helped by pressuring the QB. We are losing statistically the best pass rusher we have ever had next year, so how will that particular facet improve?

You don't improve in pass rushing by losing Barnett. But we have good DEs. However, it's damned hard to have a pass rush without DTs helping out. We need some damn DTs even if that means shopping during the odd summer pickup time.

We will have a ton of DTs next year.

Vickers
Tuttle
McKenzie
Johnson
Picou
Mosley
Butcher

All upperclassmen too.

And new low with each post. Explain 3 points in the second half. Let me help you. They took the short stuff away and Debord had a seizure.

That is the dumbest take on last night I have read in here.

They took the deep ball away in the second half. We completed short pass after short pass and were forced the drive the ball into the red zone where we faltered. We didn't finish drives because Vandy didn't give up the big play like the first half.

Good grief man surely you saw all the yards we got the second half? Surely you saw the fumbles that stopped drives? Surely you saw the FG hit off the cross bar?

They 100% didn't take the short pass away. Foolish ignorant take to say the least but not surprising since you are stuck in thinking this is still 2015.

Then I guess we are going to agree to disagree over how much improvement the defense will show next year when the personnel will actually be worse.

Which established successful, or rising star up & comer, assistants are going to come here right now when the whole world knows that Butch has underperformed and we have a new AD on the way? Answer is none. Butch may make staff changes but those changes will not be upgrades because he cannot guarantee anything beyond one year's employment at this point and top assistants nowadays expect 7 figure contracts with multiple years guaranteed. Barring significant and unlikely turnarounds in recruiting and on the field in 2017 we are officially in a lame duck year.

Butch leaving on his own is 2016's version of the 2012 Grumors.

If he walked away today to save face/avoid termination/get back to a job at a level where he's comfortable, then his tenure at Tennessee would 100% be a net positive. Not an overwhelming success, of course, but a positive overall for the program.

But if he sticks around another year, his positive effect on the program dwindles significantly. We will be only in a slightly better position in Dec. 2017 than we were in Dec. 2012.

depends on player defections between now and then. it would take a mass exodus of talent to get to 2012.

We still have a lot of young talent that would theoretically still be around for the 2018 season.

JG, Dormady, Sheriron
Kelly, CFA, Chandler
Jennings, Callaway, Byrd, Johnson
Richmond, Hall, Jones, Boulware, Tatum

Taylor, KMac, Tuttle
Kirkland, Sapp
Griffin, Osborne, Buchanan, Warrior, Abernathy

That nucleus is worlds better than what CBJ inherited.

The A+ scenario is CBJ takes the Purdue or UNC jobs (Fedora to Baylor rumors), and we get to hit the reset button on the staff with a pretty loaded roster.

This game was completely on the defense.

Some say Shoop should have known the tendencies of the opposition because he recruited some of the players. I suggest Vandy had an institutional memory of Shoop's schemes and this was a disadvantage.

I'm not sure playing Byrd in the slot was worth it this year. Sure he made some plays. Not sure how the D would have been different with him in the mix. Not sure Martinez and Thigpen are good fits for Shoop's system. Having them on board has been a pretty good approach this far but the technique and injury issues might could be related.

Lot of players got some good experience this year. I'm good with the O moving forward. Maybe some coaching changes there play out. Wish I had a crystal ball. I do think its a little fool-hearty that changes are like some kind of magic bullet. The environment is crazed. How's Georgia doing? Ed O really? And that hot coach fresh off the loss to Memphis?

Butch made a mistake trying to coach the fans up, maybe. Not sure the hit on recruiting is a given. There is that we've made improvements but we need help approach.

I mean yeah much of that problem resolves itself with time but I don't think we have enough playmaker DTs, especially with Tuttle's status being questionable (I'm not going to feel good about him being the same player until I see it) and Danny O gone for good. We certainly didn't have them near the end of the season or even much in the way of warm bodies which is what I was thinking about in terms of that exposing an already bad secondary to very bad consequences.

Lol.

Your right. So when is the time for those that accused me of trolling to finally admit I was right?

Let me know as I will be waiting

They don't have to admit anything. They might if you wouldn't strain yourself patting your own back, or try not to act so gleeful because our defense sucks. And, we don't know that Jancek would not have been as bad or worse.

That appears to be over a period of 111 games, which I believe. Help me out if I'm reading it incorrectly.

I think it's based purely upon the winning percentage of our opponents. I'm not saying it's the best or worst way. For comparison, I think Sargarin had us with the 39th strength of schedule.

Reality will be that were not getting rid of Butch. We'll lose a few Assistant coaches and get to 7 wins next year.

I think DeBord and Shoop are back next year.

Thig and Martinez need to be fired. Almost anyone would be an upgrade over those two.

Gillespie likely leaves on his own. Ball security has been terrible with RBs this year. He's touted on here, but is he really that great?

Scott will 100% leave. Z will probably leave.

Doubt Strip goes anywhere. Who knows on Mahoney. OL seems decent this year.

Barnett is great but cmon now. He isn't the entire D. He was this year but injury had a lot to do with that (he was the only guy left standing on D). Coaching at LB and in the Secondary can also improve the defense greatly.

These two have done all they can for us and tbh, we needed their connections to the SEC more than their coaching ability. And their coaching has become a liability as the quality of the overall team has improved.

I hope someone in our AD, kicks the tires on Mark Dantonio up at Michigan State.

Great coach for sure but with some of the heart health issues he has had in recent years I don't think this would be a good fit for him. His background is Midwest as well.

If Butch can still find a taker, I would prefer we get someone familiar with the rigors of this conference and expectations. Butch clearly can't handle it and looks like he will have a heart attack.

Dan Mullen I think would be a great fit at TN. He won this Divison as an OC at Florida. He has over achieved at Miss St. It would be a pretty easy offensive transition and he knows how to coach QBs see Alex Smith, Tebow, And Dak. He is familiar with our recruiting territories. He can work the media etc. he would be one of my first calls.

Besides that, Petrino, Strong, Taggart, Miles types are all familiar with this region and guys that can win here.

Half of them haven't played or has very little experience though

Yeah, we won't be dominant on the DL or anything next year. But guys like Johnson, Mosley, and Butcher going through a full spring and fall at DT should get them up to speed.

Mosley nor butcher will ever contribute here. If they could they already would have. I would be shocked if either are back next year.
