The secondary has been injury ravished but it's also been bad all year and was bad the year before against teams that tested them. It's why a lot of us have been calling for a new secondary coach all season. You protect your secondary by getting pressure up front no pressure = bad secondaries get burnt for 400 by Vandy. There's nothing special about Vandy and last night ever since we hit critical mass on the injury front our defense wasn't stopping anyone and we have several games of stats to prove it. Any team in the country will put up huge numbers against this D right now. Pick one and they'll do it.

Ok, so help me out by telling me where the pressure comes from next year.

On a side note I am having a blast at Veloce indoor go-kart track. If you haven't tried it, it is awesome. Great distraction from the misery that is UT football.

Yeah, that down field passing game from Debozo really lit them up.

actually dobbs was 31-34 for over 300. but the offense stalled in the redzone twice on medleys miss drive and the last drive, add in dobbs fumble and their was no chance with the defensive performance.

Off the top of my head we're losing Barnett, Vereen, Sutton, Lewis, Croom, Foreman, JRM, Kamara, Dobbs, Weisman, possibly Malone?

Yeah we may have some talented players left on the roster but we're losing a ton. No chance our W/L record is better next year..Butch is what he is. Mediocre.

We've been wanting and predicting that several would leave all season long. To say that no one is going to come here that is a better OL coach than Mahoney or a better secondary coach than Martinez or a better LB coach than Thig is absurd.

You don't remember 2012 do you?

I think this one is going to take longer than the normal 2-3 days for the sunshine to return.

I say Ron shows up later today and says he is done with cbj.

Then by Monday of next week this board starts to use the injury narrative again as reason to really the troops.

By the following Monday, Ron will be telling us how Tenn fans are going get exactly what the deserve with butch leaving and we just don't know how lucky we are to have had him.

2 weeks tops and all order will be restored with those few still living in reality will be trolls again.

You have the worst case of little man syndrome I've ever seen

Lol. Yes it did.

Again man show me any team in the nation that has more than 2-4 passes per game on average down the field?

Vols had plenty yesterday to win

And new low with each post. Explain 3 points in the second half. Let me help you. They took the short stuff away and Debord had a seizure.

No reason it should be worse. Agree with your last point.

I don't know if I would hang this game on the offense. Seemed like to me Vandy just kept converting 3rd and long.

If Butch does stay through 2017, we need to hope like hell that he holds onto this recruiting class.

All the talent from 2014 will be gone and most from 2015 as well, but at the very least the next guy could walk into a situation with a good QB and plenty of bodies on the OL and DL.

Being stocked on the lines of scrimmage is key for a quick turnaround. A good coaching staff can develop players elsewhere, but it's hard to cover up not having depth in the trenches.

Well then I guess Shoop is just suddenly a terrible DC because that's the only other way to explain things.

beginning to wonder, seems like adjustments would at least be made when you start giving up 550 plus yards a game on a consistent basis

I have no clue what you're trying to say there. The pressure next year has already started.

Rushing the passer. You agreed that the secondary was bad, but should be helped by pressuring the QB. We are losing statistically the best pass rusher we have ever had next year, so how will that particular facet improve?

The injuries have really hurt us this year, but the coaches can clearly be better. Hopefully this Vandy loss will wake Butch up and help him realize that he needs to make some changes.

My main gripe is that Butch seems to be too married to his system. He is trying to force feed players into it instead of finding ways to use their natural talents. Look at Bama - their offense changed when Hurts showed up. Butch's focus on WR's is keeping Byrd and Jennings from their best positions on defense. I could go on.

Butch isn't leaving UT this year but he will next year without making some adjustments.

Butch leaving on his own is 2016's version of the 2012 Grumors.

If he walked away today to save face/avoid termination/get back to a job at a level where he's comfortable, then his tenure at Tennessee would 100% be a net positive. Not an overwhelming success, of course, but a positive overall for the program.

But if he sticks around another year, his positive effect on the program dwindles significantly. We will be only in a slightly better position in Dec. 2017 than we were in Dec. 2012.
