UPDATED... Athletic Director hot board

Hubbs said Tennessee would have an AD in place well before the new Chancellor begins in March. Said others such as President DiPietro would have a strong say and get the position filled in the coming weeks. Said there's too much to do, too many important decisions to be made to wait until Spring.

Do these plans include shoveling dirt on Butch Jones career at UT???
Atlanta Vol was probably referring to the rumors of a super committee being formed of past players and possibly other personnel that can aid in coaching searches for all sports. Alabama used a group like this to go get Saban. Ken Stabler was apart of it. Ole Miss does the same thing and Archie Manning is in that group. Its been rumored that Peyton may be a part of a group like that. Charles Davis recently said that he would be willing to serve in that capacity if asked. I can see Fulmer serving in a capacity like this and much more. I'm sure there are probably a huge list of things that need to be done to improve athletics at UT to get us back to winning in all sports. But I don't understand why some of you want to twist around anything said and make it about CBJ.

This is what is needed for Vols to go out and hire a big name when time comes.

SMH. This is shameful.

You act like he ruined Tennessee Football. Probably have Art as your first choice of replacements.

This is correct. However I can tell you that its not a rumor at all it is already in motion. I can also tell you it is exactly what this program needs to help shape the future of the program.

CPF is spearheading this effort internally and has already been having discussions with quite a few people on who will be involved and in what capacity.

This is absolutely correct.

As it stands today (without taking future results into account) I will go on record saying that CBJ will be gone in two years (Ie we will have him for two more seasons).

There is no doubt his contributions have been tremendous and he will be credited for bringing this program back to relevance. I truly love the guy personally and give him all the credit in the world for turning around what truly was a disaster when he came into the program. I just didn't want anyone to take my comment in the wrong context.

This has been needed for a while now. I heard a report the other day that all of UT sports currently rank 12th of the 14 SEC teams in terms of overall wins. This has got to change. Cheek's tenure has severely deteriorated UT athletics. :hi:

If it's Gilbert, I may think Tennessee is just trolling us.

If we let our existing coaches choose their boss, we should probably just go ahead and burn the place down.

I would tend to agree. Especially if it's a coach who is coasting into retirement anyway and made the move to get closer to home. Being "intimately involved" in the hiring of Tyndall should automatically disqualify him though.

But this is the program that gave us Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, and Donnie Tyndall so anything is within the realm of possibility.

With Tennessee hiring a search firm, I believe that the administration will get it wrong and hire someone other than Blackburn.

If Tennessee hired a search firm then it won't be Blackburn and once again Tennessee never fails to disappoint.

What makes you both so sure "they" will get it wrong, it won't be Blackburn and can no one be better than Blackburn?

Washington hired a search firm and ended up hiring its Associate/Interim AD. The search firm isn't necessarily to find a candidate outside the expected pool. It's to give the university someone to blame if the hire goes down in flames. If a school opens the job and just gives it to someone internal, it looks like the job was handed to him or her. A search firm gives the appearance of a full search and competitive interview process even if one isn't necessarily conducted.

With the NCAA and academic issues ongoing at UNC, why would we be looking at their AD? Seems counter productive to me.

When you look at the penalties serverd by UNC maybe not a bad candidate after all. If he can smooth over those infractions then he is a genius.

What would happen if he left on his own after this season?

Because Blackburn has a genuine interest in Tennessee, to anyone else it would just be a paycheck

Fair.

But I guess I just don't understand why you think he is the only one that could have a genuine interest in Tennessee, or, why a "super committee " would screw it up.

I guess it doesn't really matter, whatever happens, happens. I just see some posters in favor of the committee search, and I'm trying to gather information to form my own opinion.

What little research I've done on my own, I do like Blackburn. Fwiw.

I guess my fear is we've seen Tennessee time and time again over think things, spend obnoxious amounts of money to only get it wrong in the end. Blackburn would be a slam dunk hire for AD to start the healing here from Hamilton and Hart. The guy is beating down the door to come home to Knoxville but the administration is making him beg for it for whatever reason.

I hope we don't botch this like we always seem to do! This will det the tone for athletics for a decade at the least! DB should be easy peasy lemon squeezy!
