you think someone (even multiple someone's) would sabotage the entire team and their own career prospects to make another person they don't like...look bad?
I think it's utterly ridiculous and even if it were true, those players should also be kicked off the team
I'm not accusing anybody of sandbagging intentionally. But I do think there's some psychology that could potentially play here. It's natural to work harder for somebody you actually like. It's also natural to work harder when you can see the positive results... as opposed to Hurd, who would run up his lead blocker's ass two yards downfield and then glare at them like they did something wrong.
There are other possible explanations, of course. Maybe I'm just seeing a good offense teeing off on some poor defenses - no doubt that the LBs and safeties suiting up for UK and Mizzou are much easier to block than those at Florida or Bama. Or maybe Hurd just always missed the right cut and would get tackled before Croom (or anybody else) could set blocks downfield. Anyway, it's just a theory that I find interesting (and preferable to the bickering going on in here this week, TBH).
On the Peyton thing , I was saying I was surprised his name hadn't come up in this ridiculous discussion the last few days.
As far as if he would ever coach here, who knows? Harbaugh came back to Michigan and is doing well. Granted, he had previous coaching experience and success beforehand.
But yeah, it's risky the way this fanbase turns poisonous so fast. I can see it now, lose a game we're not supposed to and it'll be: "great QB , terrible coach" , "he shoulda went straight to the commentator's booth; not coaching material"
Double standard much: Gruden has been out of coaching much longer than DeBord was.
Gruden name carries a ton more weight in recruiting. That is what would help him in college. He would be able to pull kids day 1 he stepped on a campus. Long time rust is worrisome but he also watches so much film and sees the games as he calls them and coaches QBs all the time in camp. All of the best QBs college has to offer. So he is closer to the game than Debord was. Moot point it ain't happening as much as people dream
Peyton should stay away from coaching. He should take over a team similar to Elway or get in the booth. Preferably the booth. He would be outstanding in the booth
On vandy, I could see us coming out flat like SC and losing a close one, with all the disappointment and surprising negativity circulating in the media and our fanbase. If so, something is really amiss in the program and maybe I will become concerned.
But my heart and head at this point think we come out ready to roll. I think Butch has done a great job managing issues in the locker room once they became apparent and refocusing this team (thus I think he should be a darkhorse coach of the year candidate). I think Kongo starts at DT and that interception gives him the jolt of confidence he needs to start dominating. Vandy holds us down in the first half but the OL and the Dobbs/Kelly/Kamara monster wears them out in the second half.
38-17 Vols.
Dan Mullen or cutcliffe would be home run hires. I think Mullen would kill it at a school with the resources like UTMy thoughts on the rumors and all this negativity. I unlike some here never forgot sitting in Neyland during the Florida game in 2012 and watching us piss it away. I never forgot what 2008 felt like when we knew it was time for Fulmer to go and in 2009 when Kiffin bolted following a 7 win season where we were excited to go to a bowl game. I never forgot wondering every year during Dooley if we'd even make a bowl game and hoping we would to get extra practices in for early enrollees. I also don't forget the excitement of the turnaround Butch made with recruiting, culture and on the field success measured by increasing wins.
I don't know how the remainder of this season will play out but here are my wants for head coaches next year.
1. Butch Jones = Thanks coach and keep building this thing. If you reach your apex, I appreciate the rebuild and thank you for it.
2. David Cutcliffe = If Butch doesn't stay, I'm ready for a tactician that has roots to our great school to come home. Hell, bring Chavis with ya!
3. Dan Mullen = Similar reasons as Coach C and a QB whisperer. I would love to see what he could do at a better program.
4. Charlie Strong = If all others weren't available, I would like to see what he could do back in the south.
