I've not kept up with this thread much due to all of the bickering but this is what I sent my friends about my thoughts.

All these people wanting Butch gone saying Tennessee plays for championships and that's the expectation is to win championships. Is it though? 1 natty in the last 50-60 years. No sec title in 18 years. Fulmer was considered one of the best coaches we've had and only managed to get to the top once. He won the sec just twice and not again his last 9 years. Also he only won it once with the best quarterback in history, no? Are we expecting too much from Butch? Based on the aforementioned isn't 9-10 wins a year, an east title every 2-3 years and an sec championship/ playoff berth every 4-5 years good enough?

We may just win 10 games. Yes, the loss to South Carolina is disappointing but TEN WINS. Two years ago we were going into this game at 5-6 just hoping to make a bowl.

I don't think the wins and losses are truly the big deal here; everybody will occasionally lose to an under-manned South Carolina-type team. it's the way he handles the program that's the problem. He's hidden information about player issues. At other times, he flat out lied (Hurd's "injury" is exhibit A). His cliches have worn thin many fans and local media. He doesn't "own" problems in the program.

I don't want to start over. I like winning 9-10 games. But this dude makes it hard to like or believe him. THAT is the real problem.

Just my 2 cents.

Sure, a 10-win Sugar Bowl season would be great-- is anybody disagreeing?-- but that's not where we are. We're at 8-3 with a tough rivalry game on deck and our bowl destiny in others' hands. Even if we take care of Vandy, it's possible that aTm will beat a reeling LSU team (with no Fournette) and move a spot ahead of us. They beat us head-to-head and LSU would be a more impressive win than Vandy, so the playoff committee could take that view.

So all this vitriolic bickering over progress and what that means for our HC is pointless. We could end up 10-3, 9-4 or 8-5-- forward progress, status quo or a backslide. It's premature to celebrate or despair, extend our coach or send him packing till we know how the season actually turns out.

Are you really advocating for Charlie fkn Strong?!

Lmao. Dude is tanking at Texas. I mean wtf.

He just lost to KANSAS!!

My mind is blown from the stupidity on this board today.
Charlie will do better back in the SE, but I wouldn't touch him with a 10 ft pole if we needed a coach now

Again, I am not sure why people care. With the Hurd situation though, he protected his player by doing that. Say what you want about the man, about his in-game coaching, about his cliches, but the man protects his players, even ones who end up quitting the program. That goes a long way in college athletics, and they in turn play hard for him.

David Blackburn - Chattanooga AD, everyone knows his ties and he has been perceived to be the front runner

Jon Gilbert -an in-house candidate that has worked hard the last year to 18 months to developing relationships with key figures in the University family. Also manages basketball and is a guy that Rick Barnes definitely supports.

Greg Byrne - Arizona AD - knows the SEC. Was an associate AD at Kentucky and Mississippi State before becoming the AD at State before heading west to Tuscon. Was thought to be a candidate for the Florida job at one point, but elected not to get into the race for whatever reason.

Rob Mullens - Oregon AD - again has SEC ties. He was with Mitch Barnhart at Kentucky for seven years and was with Barnhart at Oregon State before that. He's an alum of West Virginia and has plenty of ties to the East coast.

Bubba Cunningham - UNC AD - would seem unlikely but his name seems to surface for alot of AD openings. He has navigated the Tar Heels through an NCAA mess that no one is sure how he has gotten them through it. He flirted with the Florida job and got him a raise to take him over $700k. Again, wouldn't seem likely but his name could get some chatter.

-Hubbs

He said the AD search will heat up quickly, not surprising.

ITT there are lots of people complaining about those wanting Butch fired but only one person who had actually said he should be fired.

Since 1992 when the SEC expanded and created the East and West Divisions, Tennessee has won or shared the SEC East Title 6 times. That is 6 in 25 or 24%. We haven't sniffed it, prior to this year, since 2007.

Since 1933 we have won or shared the SEC Title 13 times. That is 13 in 95 or 14%. We haven't won the SEC since 1998 when we won our last NC.

We have the potential to be a very good football team but we need stability and strong coaching to do it. CBJ has made his share of mistakes but what some of y'all are whining about it silly. You don't like the way he does press conferences... so don't watch. You want him to hire this guy or that guy. Well he hired Shoop. We don't know all the ins and outs of the behind the scenes stuff that limits firings and hirings. We lost about half of our 2 deep this year to terrible injuries and most of the rest are playing hurt in one way or another. We had at least two cancerous personalities that left mid-season in Williams and Hurd. It was visible to me that the team started playing better after Hurd left after the SCar game. They looked defeated all season and probably because one of their leaders was unhappy and spreading his unhappiness around. The coaches and players have some serious work to do in the offseason to make things right but there is plenty of talent on this team. CBJ needs to make a few staff changes and start working on preparing Team 121 to take the field. Our spoiled rotten fan base needs to grow up and realize that while we have a storied past, we are not guaranteed anything when it comes to college football. We have the odds stacked against us every year by having to play in the SEC and face Bama at least once a year. Even if we had made the SECCG this year we would have had to play Bama and we are not on their level right now with our injuries. Let Florida get their butts handed to them. Everybody needs to chill out with the firing or Butch leaving talk. That is the worst thing that could happen to our program right now. With the exception of a couple of drains, the players love CBJ and we have seen vast improvements in many position groups. Butch needs at least two more years to adjust the staff and continue recruiting his players. He has had to learn some things on the fly but I see major adjustments being made even within this season. Please everybody just chill and stop wishing a good coach away. We did that with Fulmer and you know where that led us. UGA did it with Richt and look where they are. Please just be happy to see small improvements and be ready to support our team every time they take the field whether it is a practice, a scrimmage, a regular season game, or a National Championship game. They all put their blood sweat and tears into playing a game we love to watch and we want to spit on them when they don't live up to our unrealistic expectations? I think we should have lofty expectations but if you fall short it is not the end of the world. We get up, dust ourselves off, and get ready for the next go round. Let the rest of the season, coaching changes, and recruiting season play out and see how you all feel in April for Spring Camp.

P.S. Sorry for the run on paragraph but some of y'alls just gets me blood pressure up!

Go Vols!!

We sniffed it last year. One 4th down stop last year and we'd have won the east.

As to the rest of your post tl,dnr. 😆

It's not as meaningful as it used to be. Sorry reading comprehension and critical thinking elude you.

LOL. Is it really a comprehension issue when what you write does not make any sense?

Edit: Maybe I should have added "yeah" at the end and you would have understood better...?

I read the majority of your post Glitch. I agree completely. If you don't like what he says then don't listen. We are all the time saying all that matters is wins yet some people are saying they want him gone due to the way he handles media time and transparency in the program. He doesn't have to tell us anything.

This deal with ND seems heavy handed by the NCAA. Almost seems to me like they are giving ND the ammo to be able to fire him with cause and save them millions in the buyout.

Vacating wins for 2 players cheating? Meanwhile UNC ran a fake university for almost 2 decades.

Nice post and thought. You may be on to something. Boosters probably paid good money to the NCAA to do it.

It's kind of semantics. I have seen "joke," "can't take it anymore," "hate him," "comparable to Ron Zook," and the list goes on and on. These are not words for constructive criticism. These are words that create division, pressure, and can (didn't say will) cause coaches to look elsewhere and other schools to use against us. You can say some very negative things without saying he should be fired, and it still has a similar effect.

I think most rational posters would have been pleased at the start of the year with 9-3 and a major bow game.

I think a lot of the issues is the meltdown on defense. The fact that va tech went up and down the field and we needed 5 fumbles. Also we beat Uga and fla but we were down huge at Florida and then needed a Hail Mary to beat uga

It's not as simple as 9-3. This could easily have been. 7 win year and that is concerning
