Have to disagree, Saban cares, the media there is afraid to go against him! Have you seen the way he deals with them? It's not by ignoring them..

If they don't, Butch will be negative recruited against with that ammo. "The new admin doesn't believe in UT's coach why would you go play there??! He's on the hotseat."

If we win Saturday I'll be VERY surprised if Butch isn't given an extension and raise soon after.

I just don't understand why some people are getting crucified for saying they don't think he's the guy to win championships here. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other.

It's either you're all in on Butch or "I hope he leaves so you can see how bad this program will become with him you don't deserve a good coach" blah blah blah.

I'll support the guy til his last day as head coach just like I did with Dooley. My opinion of him still won't change though..decent recruiter, bad in game coach, will never get us to championship caliber.

Tennessee fans need to decide what they want to be. Either you want to compete for championships and start walking the walk- not by hiring and firing coaches, but by realizing that the resources, facilities and tradition are all there to be a regular championship contender; or you want to take the "hey, we've historically sucked, so while championships are nice, I'm happy going to the tailgate and just watching some football a few Saturdays a year." There's a lot of mystifying self-hate in here about what UT should be. Everyone whines about how spoiled the UT fan base is, but, I've got a lot of friends who are fans of very diverse schools, and I've never seen any of them act so much like Eeyore as we do. There is absolutely nothing with regard to the foundation of the program itself-now, with the TN HS talent boom, moreso than ever- that places a ceiling on how high UT can go.

For the record, I don't see any issues with the expectations you described. Waiting with bated breath to see if Butch can take us there.

Watching the game on SEC Network right now. Was there ever an explanation for Josh Malone's unsportsmanlike conduct? I saw nothing.

Nevermind, he high fives the fans. That's a horrible flag.

Majors would have been crucified long before he had the chance to do that in today's era.

You can't learn too much from a coaches first four years. Just look at where the early successes of chizik, muschamp, malzahn and sumlin has gotten them?

I am sorry but I don't think this is a good comparison. These days, at most places, including here most likely, he would have been fired after his first four years. I am extremely grateful for everything that he has done for our program and university and think that he is a great coach, but it was very much a different era then.

JMO, he's earned a raise, not an extension. Contract runs through 2020. That's three seasons of security, and we've seen enough odd personnel and in game decision to fairly question whether he's the long term answer.

We as a program haven't lived up to expectation in 10 years, have been 0-26 vs Top 10 teams, and you wonder why people are getting antsy?

I will say that if we manage to win Vandy and the bowl things should feel a lot better. If he loses vandy, you're going to start hearing a lot of rumors.

Rumors of what?

If you're talking about CBJ leaving town then the opposite is more likely. He wins this week, he is more likely to have options. He loses, chances of that go way down.

I agree. Horrible comparison to make a point in perspective.

Also, do you just go ahead and give Butch 15 years and we will see how he did with it at the end?

Hmmm. Didn't think about it like that. I still don't think he gets a raise or extension but that's just me.

Valid point tho
