Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXX

Jim Bob Cooter is a hell of an up and comer but it isn't the fact he has never been a head coach that he would be a bad hire.
It's the fact he has never recruited. If he had recruiting experience that would be different.

Also Vq is just creating talk for them. They have no damn clue about what plans CBJ might have. Any of us can tell he has been bothered a little this year but he just needs to get some thicker skin. Someone said half love him and half hate it. It's nowhere close to 50/50. More like 90/10 love him.

Much ado about nothing.

Big jobs opening. Butch uses his pawn errrr Hubbs to float the idea of being upset/mistreated.

Agent will get involved making the rumors of contact from these schools.

Boom! Butch gets a raise and extended. In the presser states how Tennessee is the only place he will ever coach.

Takes NFL job the next year

I'd like to see what big school comes after Butch. Will be interesting to say the least.

The question was: "who?"

I think the question to fans is "what is your level of commitment?"

If all someone does is watch games on tv, follow every Vol related twitter account and study VN then I can see how it would be easy to snap your fingers and say "Butch can't get us to the promised land, time for a new coach."

I would posit that those of us with higher commitment levels (I.e. Donate and pay for season tickets, travel 4 hours each way to Neyland every weekend, literally spending thousands on hotels, travel, tickets, tailgating every season) have a much greater commitment and are more likely to see the bigger picture.

If You dont have anything invested in the Vols, Its easy to scream for a new coach because if New Coach sucks then you can just flip to another channel and get on with your Saturday and fall and start screaming for another new coach. Meanwhile, those of us committed to the program would see the program that has steadily and consistently improved from rock bottom get sent right back to where it started.

The only thing that worries me is that Josh Dobbs could be our Dak Prescott

If by some chance Dobbs starts picking up major NFL interest after the senior bowl, combine and individual workouts, and he gets drafted...it's really, really bad news for UT football IMO

You see where I am going with this?

Yep, he will bolt if we win out, because he will get an offer at another program where he will have the resources to win a national championship. Congrats, Vol fan base! You will get exactly what you wanted. Bunch of idiots, who still can't appreciate a good thing, after going through the last decade, and a Kiffin and Dooley.

If he leaves, is it really the fanbase's fault? Are we unrealistic in our expectations? Yes. Is there any fanbase as a whole who is realistic about their expectations? No. He will likely get paid close to the same and fans will still expect the same because he is getting paid and because they want their program to be elite. Surely, Butch knows this.

Butch is a smart man. He knows how to play this game. Volatil said it, and I was coming on to post it before I saw his post. :hi:

Hart is heading out, and UT wants NO part of hiring a new coach in this coaching storm that is brewing over the next 2 months. NO PART.

Butch knows that he has done well with the cards dealt, and that their is frustration amongst the fan base. Being a business man, he floats rumors of maybe moving on, and displeasure at the displeasure.

This is a simple ploy to up the raise and extension, and nothing else. The longer it plays out, the more you will hear his name in connection with other jobs, and the more nervous the AD will get. Butch is about to get paid, and it's going to be on a TN check. Let's hope he's worth what he gets.

I just don't see Jones as an NFL coach, like at all. That's not an insult because I never saw Fulmer as one either and I was a huge Fulmer guy.

Everybody needs to just calm tf down about Jones. We're not where we expected to be this season but we're still heading in the right direction, albeit somewhat slower than most would like.

Judging by the board the last few days, you'd think we're back in the Dooley years...get a grip, people.

Some of y'all have straight up lost your minds. Butch is not infallible but he's done a lot to bring this program back to relevance in four years and you want him run off? Unfathomable.

Butch isn't floating rumors of being unhappy to gain sympathy. You guys need to think about what that would mean for recruiting before you believe it. Zero shot he wants that rumor out there.

i like butch and appreciate him taking on the task. i want him to be around through the jg era atleast. the sec waters are tough, its a what have you done for me lately world and the week to week margin for error is very small and he better get used to it or maybe he should move on honestly. all fan bases are like us down here. hope he finishes what he started here.

I will go on the record as saying that I definitely want Butch to stay. He is smart enough and now, I think, amenable to making changes that should improve our program. What I find interesting is that everyone howling for him to leave never offers a realistic candidate to replace him. They all want Gruden, Stoops, Herman or someone else who will not come here. I agree that it would be very difficult, as it always is, to find a replacement who will be better than Butch. I hope that he stays. If he leaves, I am not certain that that was not his plan for some time.

Anybody think rival fans or the national media would have cared about a Butch Jones Monday press conference quote when we were 5 and 7?

Remember when you all were saying that it was nice to be hated again?

How quickly we forget.
