This is what I don't get. In one breath people complain about butchs recruiting and development and in another they say a good coach can win now with this roster. Doesn't compute for me.

I give Butch a pass this year with the injuries. Again a lot of coaches could have done a lot worse. Muschamp lost his team after they suffered a similar amount of injuries a few years ago. Butch has us fighting for a spot in the sugar bowl which we haven't been to since 1990.

We need some serious perspective around here.

He's not continuing to recruit at the level as he started. That's my issue....

People who are concerned about a natty are the ones who aren't appreciative of what we've got. The goal is to win the east then win the SEC. Look at our programs history.

Timing is everything. Jones could leave and we could make a great hire or he could leave in the middle of the night like Lane did when this downward spiral really got started.

East is horrible but we couldn't win it right????

Wouldn't be hard to get a coach at Tennessee guys. This isn't the team that had a horrible roster. You all act like Butch is irreplaceable. He's not that by any means and his hot sauce recruiting has worn off. I'm rooting for Tennessee every week but I don't think Jones can take us to the Natty. JMO

The problem is the pecking order, and the known savagery of our fans. Butch has improved the record annually, and gets grief.

Texas
Notre Dame
LSU
Oregon

Those will all likely be open, and at best, we are 5th in line. If employed coaches leave their programs, like Fisher, we may drop even more.

Who is coming here with those jobs open?

But you think an unproven HC in the form of Cooter who has never recruited one player can?

Butch can do it. He has to surrender the offense to a great coordinator though. I know you think he will never hire a guy who can take his job. Coaches mature. He's been here 4 years, Cincinnati 3, and CMU a couple.

The OC will tell us what we need to know in the offseason. Maybe DeBord hangs on another season but I think he moves on. Does Butch relinquish his death grip on the playbook? We will see. I'm with Butch

He gives the respect back with bone headed losses. We should be back to back East winners but he can't motivate a team to handle business.

Oh yeah that's right, that team last year didn't play motivated at all. Absurd comment. We wore down towards the end of big games, and didn't have the depth yet to finish games. But to say that team didn't play every game motivated last year, minus maybe the Arky game, is ludicrous. This year is definitely a different story for some reason, but is the exception with his teams. We may have found out why things were different, since it seems we had a cancer or 2 in the locker room dividing it.

There is a major problem this day and age where people think you have to be 100% on one side of a debate without agreeing with anything coming from the other side.

It's ok to say thank you to Jones for bringing us from the ashes which not many could have done or would have even signed on to do and at the same time question if he is the one who will then take us over the hump, back to the title game, etc

I think Butch needs someone he trusts to do a job performance with him and show him how these comments are negatively affecting him. Tennessee fans would flock to him if he was open and honest and said he was disappointed but we still have a lot to play for etc than saying the players are life champions. We've now become a joke to other fanbases. Just be real. We don't need cliches. Just be real.

You don't lose to teams the caliber of SCAR.....

Your teams should close out a game like Florida last year.

His inconsistent teams(especially this year) made fans not trust him more. Then he comes with this "Champions of life" speech. We don't get participation trophies at Tennessee.

Also his handling and coddling of Hurd is crazy. Play your best players and deal with whatever comes.

And I certainly agree with the Hurd comment and the comment about SC, so don't ge me wrong about my above statement.

I personally don't care if we keep him or fire him. I want a chance to compete for nattys/playoff runs year in and year out(be in contention).

Can Butch Jones do that? Personally I'm going to say no right now until he proves otherwise.

We wore down against Oklahoma and Florida too right?

Cancers should be cut off no questions asked.

The difference is expectations. Butch met all my preseason expectations this year except the South Carolina game.

People thinking playoffs and national championship with this team were setting themselves up for disappointment.

I was hoping for 10-2 and to beat Florida and win in Bristol. When we turn in 9-3 season after having a ton of injuries, I can step back and realize we've had a really good year.

The people who thought we had a shot to win a natty are the ones who are disappointed. They were thinking 12-0 or 11-1. It's not a realistic expectation especially with the injuries. We just don't have the horses for that yet.

Why doesn't he have the resources here? He's got the 3rd most lucrative program in the country last year. Most expensive recruiting budget. Great facilities and tradition plus he's in a weak division. Why can't he win here again?

I didn't say that he didn't have the resources here. I'm saying he will get offered from a program that is elite enough to compete for championships. He does have the resources here and he has us on the trajectory of competing, as long as he can adjust and make some better hires for his staff. However, our fan base won't let him do it. He will bolt for a lateral move if given the opportunity, IMO.

Perspective? Nah! Who cares if we only have 22 healthy and they have to play both ways...still should compete for championships with that roster.

Thank you! Hire Cooter as OC...sure! You know what you are getting. As a HC in college? You have no idea what may happen.

You are never going to be happy with our program then cause that's not happening in our lifetimes most likely.

Yes, they should be! I agree. We lost Florida because our DC can't dial up a remotely decent call on 4th and chavis. Butch fired him, hired Shoop, and told him to beat Florida. Job done. Oklahoma...we surely missed ample opportunities there. How do we know that some of the blown assignments and other not so pretty things weren't due to being worn down and fatigued and making bad decisions? Looking back, it's pretty crazy that we were so close to where we were in just Butch's 3rd year after what he took over. No one expected that!

We need to get the new AD hired ASAP. Last thing we need is to hire a coach with a lame duck as AD.

I still don't think Butch is going anywhere cause I don't think he's getting an offer that makes sense.

Much ado about nothing.

Big jobs opening. Butch uses his pawn errrr Hubbs to float the idea of being upset/mistreated.

Agent will get involved making the rumors of contact from these schools.

Boom! Butch gets a raise and extended. In the presser states how Tennessee is the only place he will ever coach.

Takes NFL job the next year
