For someone as social media savvy as he supposedly is, he does say some dumb things. I am sure that it important, but he is getting destroyed on Twitter right now, by his own fans. That's something you say if you're 2-10 and on your way out. You don't say it if you blew one game from playing for a championship. Good gravy.
Honest question to all.
What is your long-term expectation for this program?
I think we'd all consider any non-bowl year to be a catastrophic failure. Many think any year in which we don't win the East is a failure. A few hopped off the train as soon as we were no longer a reasonable threat to make the playoffs. So where is your line?
If we were to reach the LSU level, where we're relevant every year, but perhaps only serious title contenders about 25% of the time... would that ultimately be satisfactory to you? Or are you only content if we get to the dynastic championship-or-bust level like Alabama?
Note that these are examples and context is important with any result. I'm just interested to hear what level of long-term production and consistency would make you all think, "This is a successful program at the University of Tennessee."
Seriously, What do y'all want him to say?
"we didn't win the East. The season is lost. We aren't going to play the rest of the schedule. Sell the players, fire the coaches, put down Smokey. All is lost. I'm sorry."
How about, "it's disappointing, I hate it that we lost the division?" Is that so unrealistic to expect? Instead of stupid clichés that make our program a laughing stock to the rest of the nation?
The first thing he said at the presser was that the #1 goal each and every year was to win championships.
I'm sure the folks on here lampooning him didn't actually watch the presser though and are taking what he said out of context.
No I'm busy being bombarded with texts from rival fans about his stupid winning at life quote.
Arkansas and Oklahoma, unfortunately.
He's already said multiple times that he's never once mentioned winning championships was a goal of this program.
The game of life quote was stupid but once again it is being blown out of proportion. By our media, by our fans and immediately others are taking it and running with it.
One of the first questions he answered today by saying "the goal every year is to win a championship." He said it like 3 different times.
The game of life comment was a generic Mr. Rogers type stupid comment about the senior class. Our fanbase is full of spoiled idiots and they were waiting on something like that. That said, Butch says goofy stuff and needs to do better. He gives too much material. Gotta consider that our fanbase is filled with unrealistic morons ready to pounce on the first thing that isn't music to their ears.
