We always hear about the great "SEC west" but to me it doesn't seem like they are any better than the East this year (with the exception of Bama)

Honestly it's Bama and then everybody else this year, especially with all the injuries to UT, A&M and UF.

I'd rank them:

1. Bama
T2. UT
T2. Auburn
T2. A&M
T2. LSU
T2. UF
7. Arkansas
T8. Georgia
T8. Ole Miss
T8. Kentucky
T11. South Carolina
T11. Miss St
T13. Vandy
T13. Mizzou

There is a lot of unwarranted Butch blaming going around, but there is one thing I think we can hold him directly responsible for: DT depth.

He knew after last season that we only had 4 capable DTs returning in Vickers, DOB, KMac and Tuttle (Picou is clearly not SEC caliber) and that 2 of them had serious issues (DOB - substance abuse, Tuttle - injury). But he only recruited one DT in last year's class, JUCO Alexis Johnson.

Then, AJ gets suspended indefinitely the second he's on campus and Butch did nothing to try and supplement the roster over the summer with DT depth (even though he took a late DE in McDaniel and RB in Lewis).

Now, not unpredictably, DOB gets in trouble again and we have a couple injuries and we have nothing but Swiss cheese left at the most important position on D in the SEC.

That's on Butch. You can't go into the spring with only 5 capable DTs in year 4, and you absolutely cannot go into the Fall with only 4 capable DTs in year 4.

If Tennessee continues to play wide open on offense it would be hard for a skill player to turn down coming here stylistically. Question is will Butch do it consistently in big games. He usually gets scared and goes conservative. Dobbs is the second best runner at QB in the country after Jackson. IMO It's just downright crazy not to run him. He's dynamic in the running game.

He's been a joy to watch the last two weeks and will be needed again against Vandy

UT 14-3 in their last 17 games. Second only to Bama (17-0) in the SEC.

Nice stat. Look at how far we have come, yet the negative Nancy's are up in here whining. The legion of the miserable can't enjoy being 8-3 with a chance to go 9-3 in the regular season for the first time in what seems like forever. Add to that, a win next week coupled with a couple losses, and we have a very good shot to go to the Sugar Bowl, yet that will mean nothing to the negative Nancy's here. Keep being miserable though.

Preston williams wasn't a starter? Hmmm....

Do you really think he was contributing? Do you really think that he would be starting over anyone right now? I don't. So, keep running down the coaching staff, keep over-reacting to every piece of negative energy and keep looking for things to bring the rest of us down. I have a better idea. Why don't you take your whiny BS over to the Dawgs board. They are likely more miserable than we are here and you will be most welcome.

Hope Barnett can break Reggie's record next week. He's getting double-teamed almost every play with our lack of a DT presence inside, making it a lot harder for him to get to the QB.

Sad things: Derek Barnett won't win DPOY because he's not on Bama and Dobbs won't be first team All-SEC for the same reason

I remember Dooley telling Palardy "don't f*** this up" before every kick.

He told all former players they had to schedule an appointment to see practice.

He didn't recruit Middle Tennessee players worth a crap.

He went with a guy who never had been a coordinator before to coach defense. Oh and switched to 3-4 in a pivotal year in his career.

By all accounts he was a prick. One former Vol told me he would never send one of his players to play for him. Same player said he hoped we lose so he gets fired.

Don't forget shower discipline and the trash cans.

I agree. And I'm starting to think he may have a future in the NFL, although it's not clear the position. He's a dynamic athlete and he's really gotten a chance to show it the last few weeks.

The east could have more bowl teams than the west this year. And there's a real possibility for some statement wins this weekend. While not likely, I don't think it is outside of the realm of possibility that Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina all win their cross over rivalry games with the ACC. (I wouldn't bet on it, but I also wouldn't be surprised).
